Doggystyle: the 2022 calendar for animal lovers

Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek has put together 12 hilarious pictures of dogs to create the must-have 2022 calendar.

We asked Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek a couple of questions about the “behind the scenes” of “Doggystyle”. You can purchase the calendar here.

This is not the first calendar you realize. How did the idea of this format come about?
The whole calendar project started in 2017 when I was asked by the art publishing house Verlag für moderne Kunst to make a calendar for them. I was kind of confused by the request of doing a calendar and so I proposed to them to do a cat calendar and they wanted to see how I would translate my photography into a cat calendar. That's how “Jumping Cats” came alive. Now after 5 years later I decided to give it a try with dogs and made “Doggystyle”. In my opinion these two calendars are very much connected to each other. I love animals more than humans. They are always super honest and I especially love their sense of humor.

Can you tell me who has been involved in the realization of the project?
First of all I was scouting for an animal-loving assistant with extra long arms (Hi Valentin!) — without him it wouldn't have been possible. Also I teamed up with Marcus Vinicius de Queiroz for set design and Neslihan Değerli x Enlil Isik for styling. We all share the same vision and love for animals and it was a perfect match. After the shoot I was lucky to work with @tim_kardashianwest who made the wonderful graphic design for the calendar and with @francissalvator and @y.urn for the wording.

How did you shoot the images?
With some dogs it was super straightforward forward and we just dressed them up in their favourite style and shot them. With other dogs we had to spend hours getting to know each other first. Thank you dear lovely dogs for allowing us in the end to shoot you!

How long did it take to work on it?
The full production was done in about 1 month. Every year I tell myself to start earlier with the calendar project and to take some more time. But it seems like October/November is the perfect time for calendar production.
