Label
[edit]The English label for this item should be changed to the term most often used and most widely understood in English-language sources which refer to it. Per enwiki, "In English language sources it is usually referred to as the "Imperial German Air Service", although that is not a literal translation of either name." Luftstreitkräfte itself is one of multiple German-language titles for the service, and while used in a number of English-language sources as well, it is far from universal, and not even clearly in the majority. The following points illustrate my rationale for this comment. Joshbaumgartner (talk) 07:33, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Imperial German Air Service is more commonly used by English-language sources than Luftstreitkräfte.
- Imperial German Air Service is more readily understood at a glance by English speakers as to what it refers to than Luftstreitkräfte, particularly for those with a more casual knowledge of World War I aviation.
- Imperial German Air Service can be inferred as referring to the entire period of the entity's existence, whereas Luftstreitkräfte was not used until Oct. 1916 while the service was founded in 1910.
- Imperial German Air Service can be written on a standard English keyboard, not requiring the ä of Luftstreitkräfte.
- Imperial German Air Service is in line with other similar naming/labels such as French Air Force (Q820827) and Royal Netherlands Air Force (Q580556), versus using Luftstreitkräfte.
