Number of units
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic

Description | Number of units of a power station - a unit being a generating unit as described at https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/generating-unit |
---|---|
Data type | Quantity |
Allowed values | 1 to 999 |
Allowed units | integer |
Example 1 | Kemerköy power station (Q31191365) → 3 |
Example 2 | Tuoketuo Power Station (Q2944714) → 12 |
Example 3 | Polat power station (Q97666406) → 1 |
Planned use | add number of units to Turkish coal power plants |
Motivation
[edit]Lists such as those by Global Energy Monitor (Q65086937) usually include the number of units. The number of coal-fired units closed down is important for analysis of how quickly climate change might be limited - see for example https://www.carbonbrief.org/mapped-worlds-coal-power-plants Chidgk1 (talk) 14:12, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- If there is a suitable property already please let me know as I would be happy to use a more generic positive integer. Maybe number of parts of this work (P2635) should be generalized to "number of parts"? Or is there any way I can use unit (Q2198779)? Chidgk1 (talk) 14:19, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- Maybe has part(s) of the class (P2670) with a value for what is the "unit" in this context qualified by quantity (P1114). "Number of units" isn't really descriptive enough as label for the property you are proposing. --- Jura 14:30, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick reply but in databases and lists (for example https://www.doe.gov.ph/sites/default/files/pdf/electric_power/electric_power_plants_luzon_december_2020.pdf) outside Wikidata it usually just says the number of units not whether they are boilers or steam turbines or whatever - if it was done like that it would take longer to enter the data and probably confuse people as they wondered what to enter Chidgk1 (talk) 14:37, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose NO! Not yet another "number of.." property. Use has part(s) of the class (P2670) with the qualifier quantity (P1114) instead. /ℇsquilo 19:09, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Esquilo: - I am not very experienced on Wikidata - can you explain how I could use this for power plant units without a lot of effort and without confusing people please? Could you set Kemerköy power station (Q31191365) to 3 units as an example for me? Chidgk1 (talk) 12:06, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per Esquilo. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 02:23, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
