MURRAY, Ky. -- Through the first six games of the high school football season, the Murray Tigers have proven they're the real deal.

The Tigers have taken a big step under first year head coach Melvin Cunningham. They're off to a 5-and-1 start to the year.

One of the most impressive wins of the season for Murray came on Friday night against McCracken County.

The Tigers pulled out a 38-35 win over the Mustangs, in a game where running back Kainoa olive rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

Cunningham has brought a more complementary style of football to the Tigers offense this year. He's put an emphasis on the Tigers passing game this season.

Cunningham said it's been a challenge reshaping this Tiger team so far, but they're getting better by the day.

"It's definitely been a learning curve," Cunningham said. "Teaching a quarterback to read defenses and doing those things, teaching receivers to sit down in zone defenses, run through man defenses. Just terminology up front, and how we speak the language that we need to speak to execute the way we need to execute. It's all been teaching moments, but we feel like we're getting better."

Murray's next test will come on the road when it faces Crittenden County on Friday, Sept. 29.
