Joe was very helpful, knowledgeable, and kind even when I was confused with the process of requesting quotes through Yelp and how the service works. Thank you for your presence here. Our communities need more small businesses like Joe's that provide a specialty service for issues like these. Vacuums are expensive and if the problem can be resolved quickly and affordably, it makes a much better experience for customers to not have to buy a whole new vacuum!

We were in the market for another vacuum as our Dyson unfortunately was dying and I've seen Miele and Sebo vacuums being recommended online. I just wanted to make sure we'd like the feel of them before taking the plunge as it is quite a pricey investment. Finding a vacuum shop that has it in store to try out is a bit hard as it's not a typical vacuum to have in a "normal" store.

So we went on the Miele USA website to find a shop relatively nearby and unfortunately they're located further away from us which meant we'd need to find a Saturday (yes specifically a Saturday as most of the shops are closed Sundays) that would work for us. Luckily we finally had a Saturday to shop and we headed to A Better Discount Vacuum and Sewing Center in Mountain View. We were timing it so we'd be there relatively close to opening/a little after opening. There's a shared parking area that's small with a restaurant and another building complex.

Unfortunately, when we arrived it looked closed. We double checked the time and yeah they were supposed to be open. So we called the phone number and someone did pick up and they said someone should be there to open the shop soon. So we waited. Finally someone did arrive and although we did wait for a bit of time, we were glad we waited as they were quite helpful in showing us the options they have there.

It's a tiny shop so most of the items there were things they were servicing. They only had a few on display and just gave us the ability to try running the machine and also showed us the Sebo which gave us another option to consider when buying a canister vacuum besides the Miele.

Yes, although we did end up waiting a bit longer for them to open, we were glad we had an option to play around with the vacuums to give us an idea of the vacuums. They were quite knowledgeable on the vacuums and told us what they usually service more of and gave tips and tidbits that we wouldn't get otherwise.

Definitely will be a great spot if we ever need to service a vacuum in the future or if you need to try out a Miele or Sebo vacuum. Just make sure to call before going as they may or may not be open right away at opening time.

He was very clear about what was wrong and how long it would take to repair my vacuum. Now that it's fixed, it works great. He is very personable.

I walked in looking for a Miele vacuum, and I walked out with a better vacuum (Sebo) at a fantastic price and warranty. Faradeh was extremely informative about vacuums and very helpful; she didn't pressure me at all to make a purchase, but I really wanted one that day, so I did research in my car while sitting in the parking lot and then made my purchase. They have competitive pricing and are a super friendly mom-and-pop shop. Later, I went back to buy some extension parts, and Sal had everything that I needed and gave me a great price too. Yes, it is a small shop, but I feel like I have a trusting relationship with the seller, and since they are a repair shop, if I ever have issues, I feel very comfortable going back. I doubt though that I will have issues with my Sebo vacuum. Their customer service thus far has been far superior to Miele based on reviews and their product seems more reliable and standardized (Miele had vacuums with cords ranging from 15 ft-23 ft or so, whereas most Sebos have a standard 25 feet, with the exception of the biggest one, which has 45 ft.). When I called Sebo after having trouble registering my warranty online, the receptionist knew the warranty person by name, and then the person in warranty registered my product in a less than a minute. Super competent! And what sort of vacuum these days comes with a 10 year warranty? Only Sebo! :) My sister tried this vacuum and is so impressed that we are going back one week later after I made my purchase, and she is going to return her Dyson to Costco and buy one from Sal instead too!

Zero stars! They do not keep posted hours, which was super inconvenient on a Sunday when they were supposed to be open only 12-5. He wasn't there at 12:30pm so I had to make a second trip only to find out this guy doesn't know ANYTHING about sewing machines. He looked at the parts that I needed (which I brought) and sent me away. He put forth no effort into helping me.

Took our Miele in because it just wouldn't turn on anymore. Told Sal that i needed it back as soon as possible. He fixed it and called me a few hours later!

Nice local shop. Probably not the cheapest for parts, etc., but good example of a local shop providing personalized service.

I called and asked if I could buy a new hose for my vacuum. The fellow said
that he'd be happy to order it, but suggested I bring it by and he would see
if he could repair. When I went there with my hose I met a kindly gentleman with
a charming accent. He took a look and said he thought he could fix it (a broken switch or wire he thought) and would charge $35 if he succeeded or zero if
he couldn't. An hour later he called and said it was fixed and ready to pick up.
His price was fair, he was open on sunday and did the work right on ahead of
the time he'd promised. Great guy and great place. Lots of Miele accessories,
      bags.

Belt in my trusty Panasonic vac broke.
Frys used to carry them belts for $3 for 2.
      Not anymore.
Called the Vac and Sew store in Sunnyvale
but was too busy to go their during the week.
Drove by this joint today and found they are open.
The guy pulled the price outta his @$$ and quoted me $6.95
      Ouch!
Thats more than double the price online
      ( see http://www.ezvacuum.com/panasonic-mcv350b-type-ub-9-belts-genuine-2-pack-p-326.html?currency=USD )
but what the heck, I need em belts now.

This is truly one of those friendly neighborhood mom n' pop shops that are hard to come by in this day and age. I brought in my newish 13-month old vacuum that has stopped working entirely. My warranty had just expired and Sears wanted to charge me an arm and a leg just for diagnostic. I took a gamble and brought it in A Better Discount Vacuum, and I'm SO glad I did. The owner here is 100% the most honest and reliable - and here's why. They gave me an estimate and when I came back to pick up my vacuum, they charged me for way less than my original estimate. I first thought it was an error, but they said it's because they didn't end up needing to replace one of the parts (they were able to fix it instead). Where else do you find honest shop owners like this anymore?? This has definitely made me a customer for life.
