This is my second visit to this Japanese restaurant and I really think this is the best sushi restaurant in the Sacramento area.

Lobster Misoyaki (5/5): This was a part of their special menu and it was two half lobster tails topped with miso butter paste. I thought the paste flourished well with the lobster

Hotate nigiri (4/5): the scallop was very plump, but tasted a weird fishiness.

Umi Masu (5/5) this trout nigiri was topped with Truffle mushroom. It was tasted like a salmon by with more flavor. The truffle was strand addition though.

Kamasu nigiri (5/5): this barracuda nigiri was very fresh.

Mixed tempura (5/5): came with 3 pieces of shrimp, string bean, pumpkin, yam, onion. It was super crispy and hot. Perfect appetizer. Although the tempura felt a bit heavy.

A5 Wagyu tataki (5/5): comes with five fatty pieces that just melts in your mouth.

Azakaya Sashimi box (5/5); If you love sushi like me, I think this is the best bang for your buck. It comes 9 types of sashimi with 2 pieces each. In mine, I got salmon, salmon toro, hamachi, scallop, squid, tuna, and others. I thought it was super fresh and provides a good balance of things to try.

Definitely my favorite restaurant in Sacramento

Ate here for a quick date night and quite enjoyed it. We got two rolls, the una-ten and the sassy roll. Both of them were yummy and we felt they were worth the price. With the two rolls and drinks we got out of there for under $50 which felt pretty reasonable for dinner.

The service here is good, and the food came out relatively quick and there weren't any issues there! I would recommend checking it out if you're in the area and looking for sushi!

Came here to celebrate my 1 year anniversary with my wife with an omakase, and it was an experience that we wish didn't happen for our 1st year anniversary. Where to start. The reservation process might be the first thing that needs to be looked over. Reservations online are $108 where phone and walk in are $125. We didn't get a online reservation, but on arrival there were only 3 other people there and 10 seats at the bar. Not sure how many seats are for online reservations, but that seemed a bit off at the start.

The one nice thing was the service from the waitresses who were friendly and would check in with us from time to time. I would like to emphasize this because the only interaction we got from the chef was to check for allergies and that was it. The chef almost felt like he didn't want to be there or was having a bad day because he would get into it with one of the waitress. At one point she asked him about a plate for what I think was dessert and all he would say was "don't rush me" and give her a dirty look, and when it came time for dessert, he pulled out plates, pointed at them, looked at her and said something under his breathe and stormed off to the kitchen. It was unprofessional, and to do this in front of your guests was not a good look.

Now the food. This started good, and went down hill in a hurry with a spike of 2 good things in the middle, with more disappointed surrounded it. The first 3 dishes came out together, 2 of them were good, the egg with the unagi in the middle was dry and room temp at best (this is a theme for the whole night). The sunomono with the red shrimp was okay. There was a lot of liquid and the shrimp looked like it was torn in half (comparing it to their instagram page, it looked disappointing in comparison https://www.instagram.com/p/C7Cu8mJSw_a/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==). The Australian Wagyu with the asparagus was alright, it might have been the only thing that was at temperature but felt like this was something I could do at home. The dressing was a miso dressing and the meat didn't taste seasoned at all, just a piece of beef that they used to wrap a piece of asparagus.

Then came the fish, and the first thing that worried me was that the fish was all in a wood case. Didn't look like any refrigeration or ice so the fish just felt like it was sitting out. The other thing I didn't really care for was they preseasoned every nigiri with soy sauce and wasabi (the horse radish kind, not the fresh kind); the part that was worse was it wasn't consistent in how much of each was on the nigiri. My palette after this section of omakase was ruined with the taste of heavy wasabi that even the trout that had the mushroom truffle was still over powered by the sheer amount of wasabi that was on the nigiri. I'm not a big uni person, so I let my wife eat mine, and her reaction was not good. I told her to spit it out, but she swallowed it and told me it tasted old. The only other mention that was really not good was the barracuda sashimi, where I needed water after, and when I looked at the rest of the guests, had to reach for their drinks also. That one might be the fish itself though, but thought it should be mentioned as well.

On a promising note though, the A5 wagyu and otoro were good. Neither one tasted like they had wasabi on it, which was a plus, but the otoro still was preseasoned with the soy sauce, which didn't even need it.

The temaki honestly didn't taste like anything special except at the bottom where you got a surprise glob of you guessed it! Wasabi. The fish didn't do much and when you finished the salmon roe on top, it was just wasabi, rice, and fish

The abalone somen was salty. I understand that when you have somen, what you dip the noodles into is a little salty because it is a soy sauce based, but when you leave both the noodles and the abalone in that sauce, it absorbs that salt, so all you taste is the salt. The cucumbers were a good way to cleanse that taste because they were sitting on top of the noodles above the sauce, but overall it was salty.

And then we have the crape cake. I got the strawberry and my wife got the matcha. The matcha didn't have a lot of flavor to it, but you got the bitter hit at the end. The strawberry on the other hand did have a lot of flavor, but it was dry, almost to the point where it felt like it was frozen and they left it out to thaw and the result was that the areas with no cream were dry.

Overall I was disappointed especially when we were supposed to be celebrating. For $125 a person, we left there still hungry and grabbing food afterwards, and honestly with a little bit of a stomachache from all of the wasabi. As many good things that have been said about this place, I didn't experience any of them, and we will not be going again.

Great service! Came here to try the "double toro" roll and it did not disappoint! We also ordered the "fire dragon" and "jungle bird" roll. We both liked the jungle bird more than the fire dragon roll. Would definitely return to try their omakase but may pass on the fire dragon roll. The atmosphere was also nice. It was casual & welcoming. We liked this place but probably wouldn't drive out of the way to come back often only if we were craving one of their rolls.

Came here with my family for the first time on Saturday at noon. The restaurant was not busy yet and there was plenty of parking!

We ordered a variety of food items, some not pictured. The fish tasted fresh, but there were some hit and misses. I would SKIP the spicy scallop hand roll, it tasted like sheer sriracha and nothing else unfortunately. For those who do not like sashimi, there are bento sets. Bento sets came with LOTS of food and appetizers.

Our favorite items were the nigiri set and the double toro roll! The fire dragon roll and double salmon were good, but I am not sure we would order it again. Ramen was good as well, my parents enjoyed the red and white ramen. Large portion of ramen to fill up an adult!

Servers were efficient and kind; the restaurant was also very clean.

Overall, the quality of food was great for the price-- I think we just need to order different items next time.

      1 check-in

Came with a friend. Very very friendly and exceptional service. Great food for the price! It's a bit outside the university but worth the trip! Will definitely be back when I'm back in town. We went very early so it was empty, but as we stayed the restaurant got busy. It's very roomy inside and has ample seating.

Hiro, Edison!!! You guys are awesome!! TYSM! The impromptu omakase was out of this world!! I know, it's sacrilegious to doggy bag omakase but I proudly took a bite of the last 2 items before packing them up to enjoy later! Had to save room for dessert!

Loved everything!! Wagyu, barracuda, uni, ankimo, toro, oyster, lamp chop, and all the nigiri I can't even recall the names of, marvelous, fresh and flavorful! I got nervous when I saw the tako bc that's one of the things I don't prefer sashimi, I take my octo and squid calamari style. But it was to my liking and perfect with the daikon and delicious sauce! Helped that it was boiled. Thank goodness. So ya, I repeat, everything was scrumptious!

Wouldn't change a thing! Just 4 months in, you guys are doing great! See ya again soon for the next round, next season! ;)

*Sorry, for the late review. Glad y'all made it past your 1 year anniversary! Congrats! #timeflies

I would come back and try the sushi but I got the chicken katsu teishoku set and I unfortunately did not like.
The chicken katsu was not crispy despite looking like it would be. I didn't like the sauce on the eggrolls or on the salad. Eggroll to me seemed a little slimy. I wasn't expecting clams in my miso. I really wanted to love this place but it just wasn't for me, at least not the set. However the price was phenomenal. The set came with so much food for only $18. I don't like clams so i switched the clam custard with an extra egg roll which they had no problem doing which was nice.

Service was good but nothing special. It wasn't too busy which was nice and we didn't feel rushed.
