Q:
Hi do you fix stove vent hoods? We recently cleaned ours and after putting the two fans back in place they make a lot of noise. Don't know what we did wrong.
A:
I do not repair vent hoods. However, if it is a vent a hood, the metal casing may be on askew or if you removed the blower wheel the position is too far back or too far forward on the motor shaft. You may have to reposition multiple times to get it… more

I had one burner on my Russell range cooktop that did not light for 8 months. I ignored it and I just used a BBQ lighter to substitute for the spark igniter because parts were not available anymore and electricians I called said they couldn't help. When a second burner wouldn't light without help, I asked reliable parts onAshby in Berkeley for a fix it person for out of date appliances. They gave me a card for Bay stoves - 510-545-2513.
I called and Gabe answered. I explained my problem, knowing that the parts for Russell range are no longer available since they long ago went out of business. I have a built in cooktop surrounded by a long granite counter installed in a very large kitchen remodeling done in 1996. I knew that buying a new cooktop would involve remodeling again because of the new sizes of cooktops and replacing the granite which wouldn't match all the existing kitchen granite. Gabe said he would come to look and possibly fix the problem.
He came the next day in the morning and 5 hours later, he had rebuilt the entire cooktop with parts he carries in his truck. Gabe took the whole cooktop out of its hole and replaced every little piece of parts that were bad including the gas lines to the burners. It turned out that some of the wires and the insulated box they were attached to had melted around the connections over the past 28 years. The price was fair, no where near the cost of a new remodel.
I now have my 6 burner cooktop back in working shape for the next 28 years.
Don't let anyone tell you that because what you have is an old stove and parts are no longer available, just call Bay Stoves.
Gabe is a super repair person for anything electric.

I'm so grateful for Gabe. Other repair folks said they didn't fix very old Wedgewood stoves. Gabe said he could, and did a wonderful job. He was easy to contact, it was straightforward to get an appointment, and he came in the time window that he said he would. He was able to find the problem, fix it, explain things to me, and answer all my questions. It was very reassuring. I will recommend him to anyone who needs someone to fix their stove.

Holy cow.
Watching him work is like Sherlock in a Guy Ritchie film. You see every stove part suspended in air in front of him, the possible configurations assembled and assessed and then everything speeds up and he fixes it.
It made me think of med school, creating a sterile field and counting instruments after surgery. He's a problem solver, not a paint by numbers guy, feel me? He's more than just smart, he's curious and imaginative.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lori G.Oakland, CA011Nov 13, 2023
Gabe is the Wedgewood Whisperer! The other reliable vintage stove repair won't repair pre-1930s Wedgewoods. I sleuthed a bit and found Bay Stove. Lucky me. Gabe quickly fixed the sprung-open,oven door, and then calibrated the oven and sped up a slow-to-light burner. He was on time, texted me w/in 20 minutes of arriving, and was pleasant and professional. The price was reasonable, too. Well done, Gabe. Never, ever retire!

My oven was not working..I called a few places and had appointments to have it fixed..
I waited three hours for one repair person ... who never showed up..
I called Bay stoves and made an appointment with Gabe to come and repair my oven..
He arrived on time ..gave me a fair price and went right to work fixing the problem..
I would highly recommend Bay stoves.. I will definitely be using them again...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Florence C.Berkeley, CA032Jun 30, 2023
Gabe at Bay Stoves replaced one of the thermostats on my 1930's Wedgewood ovens and made sure the rest of the stove was working correctly (adjusting flame levels, etc.). Very prompt and thorough service. I'm so glad I found this business and he was able to get my great stove back in operation, since I wasn't sure it would be salvageable. He also replaced a broken piece on the handle (found the rare part online through a site he mentioned). Gabe is very knowledgeable and gave me a lot of good information as well. Thank you!

Gabe from Bay Stoves is very competent and professional.
I scheduled him to work on my 1940's vintage stove that needed so much attention. The top burners barely worked, while the oven and broiler have never worked since day one.
He sent a text in advance with his ETA to San Jose and showed up on time. My stove is now 100% functional and I'm really impressed with Gabe's knowledge of these old Wedgewood stoves!
Call him! He's the right person for the job and his pricing is very fair!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 22, 2022
Gabe was a pleasure to work with. We have used him 2 times for repairs and maintenance on our old stove. He was able to secure a new burner for us. Recently he came back to adjust the pilot lights and everything is in tip top shape. I would definitely recommend Bay Stoves as your go to shop for older vintage pieces. :D

We are a nonprofit agency that provides shelter, meals and services to the homeless in Berkeley. We have had our Vulcan commercial stove serviced four times in the last 3 years by other companies. Bay Stoves was recommended to us from one of our partner agencies. This was the first time a service technician showed up on time, knew what they were doing and had the parts on hand to complete the job. Gabe, the technician, was fast, fair, friendly and very knowledgeable. They will definitely be the people we call in the future and will recommend them to anyone in need of their services.
