Big O Tires

This place ought to get 0 stars. Stay away from these guys. I have been to this pace on two occasions. Both times were absolutely horrendous. I figured the first time was a fluke, but the second occasion was just as bad. I will never return to this, or any other, Big O.

They definitely play games with their customers. I suspect they treat customers who buy their Big O brand tires more nicely, because they make more money off of selling their own brand of tires. I even suspect that they intentionally discourage customers who buy non Big O brands (i.e. Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc).

On my first occasion here, I called ahead to check on the price for a set of 4 Dunlop tires I wanted. When I arrived, they had only 2 of the Dunlop tires I wanted. They conveniently tried to steer me to a set of Big O brand tires that were of "comparable quality". However, I insisted on getting the Dunlops, so I ordered the tires and waited a few days.

When I arrived to change the tires 2 days later, the process that should have taken 1 hour ended up taking 7 hours. They were unable to remove the security lug nuts on my tires, because they had destroyed the security "key" while trying to remove them. Apparently, whoever serviced my car previously had put the lug nuts on too tight. Without a functional "key", they had to order a special tool that would "tap" into the security lug nut, allowing its removal. Two hours later, the tool arrived, and it too got destroyed in attempting to remove the security lug. So they ordered another one of these "tools", and two hours later, same result. (Note: Big O charged me $30 for each "tool" that got destroyed.)

By 5 pm, I had already waited 7 hours, and I had enough. I called my regular mechanic who had rotated the tires last, and he was quite apologetic but surprised I was having a problem. He asked me to take the car to his shop the following day, so he could remedy the problem. My regular mechanic had the security lugs off all four tires within 5 minutes. Got me wondering ... was Big O that incompetant? Or was Big O just trying to scam me?

I returned to Big O to finally get my tires installed. It still took over 2 hours.

It's now two years later, and I noticed that my tires were worn down after 25,000 miles, but the tires had come with a 30,000 mile warranty. This is supposed to result in a pro-rated credit of the remaining 5,000 miles toward a new set of tires. However, Big O spilled off half-a-dozen reasons why they would not honor the warranty. Not a big deal to me, because I liked how these tires handled, despite the quicker-than-expected tread life.

So I decided to get another set of 4 Dunlops. But they only had 2 of the tires I wanted, in stock. Of course, they were more than willing to suggest a set of four Big O brand tires that were of "comparable quality". (Does that story sound familiar?) Unfortunately, the tread on my tires was very low, and it was raining heavily outside, so I had Big O install the 2 Dunlop tires they had available. How difficult could that be?

Well, after 2 hours, they informed me they had installing the wrong tires. They had installed 2 higher-end Dunlop tires, and they wanted to charge me the higher price. I told them to remove the incorrect tires and to install my old tires. I drove off and found another dealer to take my business to.

I've brought my car here on several occasions over the past 4 years and my experience has been awesome

My experience: my car needed to have tires replaced. The sales person provided me the "best" option (a 94Z) which I didn't understand. I had questions about how ratings worked. What is a "94", what is a "Z"? I was told that 94 was a load rating and Z was a speed rating but given nore more information - this made sense but I didn't understand if I *needed* to purchase a 94Z rated tire. I asked for more information. I was then asked if the price was an issue and the sales associate made clear he wasn't going to explain tire ratings in any greater depth by saying "there are 15 options for your car, I won't explain them all to you".

I don't know if the sales training demands the sales associates present tires in a "good/better/best" format as opposed to helping educate consumers.

For reference: a 94 load rating is to support up to 1,477 pounds and a Z rating is more complicated but, broadly, above 168 mph.

Employee beat my center cap with a metal mallet because it wouldn't go in instead of asking for help. All you need to do is lube the O ring. $4,000 set of wheels that are discontinued and i will never find a replacement. Do not recommend.

A little over a year ago, I ended up with two flat tires. I had the spare put on and had a friend take the other to get replaced (they were done). Tony understood and couldn't have been nicer. I had another friend put the new tire on and drove the car to Big O on Geary. I had used them before and was not happy. But the next place had not been very convenient and I was not sure I had got a good deal. Anyway, I understand that since the time I had been unhappy with Big O, the management had changed. I was there today for a rotation and to check a tire with low air. Again, fast, efficient and vey nice. I am back at Big O on Geary for more than tires now.

Service is really bad the workers are good but the managers are not good enough behaviors that fail to meet your customer's needs and expectations or further exacerbate their problems.

I read a lot of negative reviews about the wait times and appointments but these people probably don't realize it's no difference then a dealership and I'm
pretty sure we've all had this experience the dealership sets appointments for you but what's normally the outcome it's still all day regardless of appointments or not! So why treat this automotive shop differently not only does this shop take appointments they also accept walk In customers all day.Cut the shop some slack and realize this is a full service shop and just not a tire shop only

Got a flat on my way to work. Thankfully these guys were nearby. Will is the man! Told him the situation and he got me in and out in under an hour. Excellent customer service. Highly recommend

Big O came through for me with a little help from Yelp. I maxed out using Yelp coupon, buy $50 and get $100. I needed an alignment, and i used the check-in Yelp alignment discount today with 20% off. I hope my car doesn't need Big O anymore. Im all out of discounts. The workers are super friendly. They don't call you when your car is done. I was waiting in their comfortable seats and then after an hour and 15 min, i asked. The car was ready. Today really started with a phone call to them asking if i can drop in. No problem. No need to make an appointment. I dropped in and they took me in. I have a record with them so repeat customers means they got my license plate in their system. No need to stand around. Off i went to their waiting room. It smells of tires! They are having sll kinds of rebates on buying 4 tires. Look up on their website. This poor guy said he has to come in once a month to bring in his Tesla for a flat tire. Something must be off with his Tesla. He is definitely a repeat customer!

Our car tire got a nail stuck in it on my boyfriend's birthday and Big O Tires was able to take our car in right away. It would have been a much more stressful situation if it weren't for the kindness of Tony, who had a welcoming personality and great customer service. We left feeling very appreciative and relieved! Thank you Tony and team!
