The service was friendly and top notch. The food was creative yet very delicious. The Ambiance and decor was artsy boujee I guess, I liked it very much. Our server was attentive and we were able to get a couple of drinks and didn't have to wait too long for the food or the check. I would definitely go back if we had time.
We ordered the Shrimp, the short rib, and the Korean fried chicken. All were super tasty and delicious. I had a drink that had rum and mint in it and my husband had their take on an old fashioned and it was really good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sheron C.Seattle, WA1849265Jun 21, 2024
I took my husband and nine-year old to Block Bar thinking it was a different restaurant that I had visited previously.
It has a low-key but friendly vibe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were observant and were able to provide excellent service without hovering which I loved and appreciated.
We ordered several different things including cocktails and mocktails (the non alcoholic spiced rum is divine), and shareable plates like the lettuce wraps, steamed buns, pork belly, gyoza and edamame. It was all delicious! The sauces accompanying the dishes were the perfect balance to the flavors of each dish and we honestly ate more than we should have!
We definitely recommend going to Block Bar for amazing Asian fusion food and delightful drinks in a cozy and intimate space.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 8, 2024
Creative Asian fusion with vibrant vibe. Cool setup with open kitchen and bar. Cool setting nestled amongst allot of the great dining options
Unique flavours. Steak frites were perfectly cooked with hangar steak and fries were crispy and not greasy
The tuna tanaki is a must have signature dish. Good selection of beers on tap with the local Phillips as feature brewery - solid choicesHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 585566Dec 4, 2023
I visited Victoria for the Canada Day long weekend. The weather was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing downtown, the Parliament building, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and more. In the evening, we chose an Asian fusion restaurant that caught my eye while browsing for dinner options. I was impressed by both the menu offerings and the ambiance.
What we ordered:
Saikoro steak(cube steak). Japanese-style grilled tender steak bites.
Grated daikon, chili-ponzu sauce, scallions
***This dish had a solid presentation, and I particularly liked the ponzu sauce. Despite the meat being a bit chewy, I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.
Karaage skewers,Japanese-style deep fried chicken.
Spicy mayo side
***It was slightly overcooked, but meat was still juicy and tender. the spicy Moyo sauce was quite good.
Chilled ramen - ,Roast chicken slices, cucumber, carrot, daikon,
golden beet, bean curd, edamame, kizami nori, smoked bonito sesame-ginger broth.
***One of my favorite dishes was the sesame ginger-based bonito soup. It could be enjoyed as either Ramen salad or cold soup ramen. I highly recommend trying this dish.
Duck spring roll with nan jing sauce,Nam Jim sauce.
***The highlight of the night was the best dish. The Nam Jim sauce, inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine, was a delightful blend of lime, fish sauce, garlic, and chili. The sauce was truly excellent. The duck spring roll was incredibly crispy, and I particularly enjoyed the flavorful duck filling.
Matcha cheese cake, Yuzu honey sauce
***The cheesecake wasn't overly sweet. Its texture was creamy and light. While the matcha flavor was a bit subtle, I still enjoyed it, especially when paired with the yuzu honey sauce.
Miso creme brûlée.
***I enjoy the Miso Crème Brûlée. The distinct Miso flavor adds a delightful twist, creating a satisfying combination of sweet and a hint of salt. I highly recommend trying this dessert.
I really enjoyed the restaurant's vibe and the diverse menu selection. I plan to visit again and explore different dishes on the menu.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andres M.Chapel Hill, NC02Jun 4, 2024

we were wandering around downtown victoria and looking at the menus posted outside to see which restaurant would be most agreeable to all in our party of four, one being vegan. we agreed the menu at the block kitchen and bar looked the best with interesting items (asian fusion), small and large plates. we walked in just before 6:00 pm on a monday night and was greeted by a friendly server. we were seated shortly after, without reservations and the restaurant was already quite full. this place is trendy, relaxed, sophisticated and casual.
our server was extremely patient and helpful with answering our questions and checking to see what can be done with substituting dishes to make it vegan friendly.
many of the dishes are great for sharing.
we had the chopping block salad, with orange balsamic dressing, it was fresh, light, and colourful. we had the lightly seared ahi tuna tataki, with seaweed salad, and it was delicious. the thai mushroom risotto was rich and flavourful with a slight heat. we also had their tokyo fries topped with smoked bonito flakes, japanese mayo and takoyaki sauce (a tad salty) and korean fried chicken (least favourite). we ended with the dark chocolate pot de creme, and it was perfection. this restaurant is a real gem, great ambience, fabulous food, highly recommend, and will definitely come back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Roger M.London, United Kingdom85May 24, 2024
Great atmosphere, excellent food, fab cocktails... what's not to love? Best place we hit in Victoria.

When we went to Block Kitchen for happy hour, everything was fantastic. Nice ambiance. I enjoy how warm and welcoming it is. The hosts provided excellent service and extended an inviting greeting. We had the steamed tofu buns and takoyaki, both of which were tasty. Additionally, we had to try the miso crème brûlée because the host encouraged we do so, and it was delicious. Their flavours were all fantastic. We shall return. Highly recommended.

Spent a long time driving up and around part of the island and wanted a dinner that was tasty and not too heavy. Sometimes small plates mean that you have little tastes of some great food so we decided to give this place a try. Well, we were pleasantly surprised that the "small" plates were a bit larger than we have often encountered (no complaints from us about portion sizes here). I am a salad lover and ordered the Chopping Block Salad, minus the nuts. The plate came piled high with young lettuce and the accompaniments all mixed together with in a mild and creamy dressing, just right for the two of us to share. The flavors were balanced just right sweet:tangy, crunchy:soft. Korean fried chicken was coated in a sauce that had some spice and sweetness to it. Pork kimchi gyozas had the filling ground together and I don't think I would have realized that kimchi was in there, if it wasn't in the name. The ground pork filling just had a bit of a tang to it. All in all, the meal did a great job of filling is up with food that was fun to eat and tasted great! Our server was engaging but not hovering. We were happy that we'd stopped here for a light dinner that was relaxing and fun!
