Such a welcome change from the ubiquitous pub food that abounds in Victoria! We ordered everything off of the happy hour menu (4-6) but the regular menu looked inviting too. Friendly and quick service topped it off. Once they were informed of my husband's peanut allergy, they were hyper mindful of that fact. Quality food and service for a reasonable price!
FYI, there were plenty of choices for gluten free and vegan. The waitstaff worked hard to supply this excellent service. Tip generously!

Stopped in here for a quick Happy Hour on a Wednesday. We had a few drinks and 2 fried chicken dishes. Both were boneless - I think both were thigh pieces.

The karaage app had 2 skewers - each piece was well seasoned/marinated, delicious and perfectly fried!

The Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) was also perfectly fried - coated with delicious gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) sauce. This was spicy. My teen daughter said it was too spicy for her liking - that's okay! More for us!

Great service and beautiful interior! I love their pan Asian menu.

Will come back the next time I'm in Victoria!

My family was coming in to Victoria after visiting the butchart gardens and were originally going to eat in Chinatown, but later decided on this place as we walked by it. I'm so glad we did because this is genuinely one of the best restaurants that I've ever eaten at. It's a somewhat upscale yet affordable Asian fusion restaurant. We came on a Thursday evening and were seated right away. Our server was very enthusiastic and when we asked for recommendations, she basically hyped up every single menu item that they had. The lighting is a bit dim inside, and where we were seated, we could see the cooks making all the food in an open kitchen.

We ordered the Thai mushroom risotto, ahi tuna tataki, porkbelly risotto, block fries, Takoyaki, red devil calamari, duck spring rolls, and pork belly lettuce wraps.

I liked everything we ordered but my favorites were the Thai mushroom risotto, ahi tuna tataki, and red devil calamari. The risotto was topped with shiitake and king oyster mushrooms in a Thai curry with truffle oil. The risotto was smooth and buttery like, the curry had a deep flavor, and there were some lotus root chips that provided some crunch. The tuna was delicate with a slight sear and sesame outer crunch. The calamari was cooked perfectly, it was easy to bite and not chewy. The sauce gave it a little spice. I loved the sauces for both the duck spring rolls and the block fries.

We came into this restaurant not expecting much but we were all blown away. This is a must try restaurant in downtown Victoria.

I took my husband and nine-year old to Block Bar thinking it was a different restaurant that I had visited previously.

It has a low-key but friendly vibe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were observant and were able to provide excellent service without hovering which I loved and appreciated.

We ordered several different things including cocktails and mocktails (the non alcoholic spiced rum is divine), and shareable plates like the lettuce wraps, steamed buns, pork belly, gyoza and edamame. It was all delicious! The sauces accompanying the dishes were the perfect balance to the flavors of each dish and we honestly ate more than we should have!

We definitely recommend going to Block Bar for amazing Asian fusion food and delightful drinks in a cozy and intimate space.

Creative Asian fusion with vibrant vibe. Cool setup with open kitchen and bar. Cool setting nestled amongst allot of the great dining options

Unique flavours. Steak frites were perfectly cooked with hangar steak and fries were crispy and not greasy

The tuna tanaki is a must have signature dish. Good selection of beers on tap with the local Phillips as feature brewery - solid choices

We found this place through YELP, and it only had 30 reviews but those 30 were excellent. The we realized it has only been opened for less than a year and a half. This place was amazing! We love the Asian Fusion Tapas style dining. Everything on the menu is unique and flavorful! Coming from a large city in USA with lots of restaurants, please know this review is genuine, and I don't give 5 stars that often.

I visited Victoria for the Canada Day long weekend. The weather was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing downtown, the Parliament building, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and more. In the evening, we chose an Asian fusion restaurant that caught my eye while browsing for dinner options. I was impressed by both the menu offerings and the ambiance.

      What we ordered:
Saikoro steak(cube steak). Japanese-style grilled tender steak bites.
      Grated daikon, chili-ponzu sauce, scallions
***This dish had a solid presentation, and I particularly liked the ponzu sauce. Despite the meat being a bit chewy, I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.

      Karaage skewers,Japanese-style deep fried chicken.
      Spicy mayo side
***It was slightly overcooked, but meat was still juicy and tender. the spicy Moyo sauce was quite good.

Chilled ramen - ,Roast chicken slices, cucumber, carrot, daikon,
golden beet, bean curd, edamame, kizami nori, smoked bonito sesame-ginger broth.
***One of my favorite dishes was the sesame ginger-based bonito soup. It could be enjoyed as either Ramen salad or cold soup ramen. I highly recommend trying this dish.

Duck spring roll with nan jing sauce,Nam Jim sauce.
***The highlight of the night was the best dish. The Nam Jim sauce, inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine, was a delightful blend of lime, fish sauce, garlic, and chili. The sauce was truly excellent. The duck spring roll was incredibly crispy, and I particularly enjoyed the flavorful duck filling.

Matcha cheese cake, Yuzu honey sauce
***The cheesecake wasn't overly sweet. Its texture was creamy and light. While the matcha flavor was a bit subtle, I still enjoyed it, especially when paired with the yuzu honey sauce.

      Miso creme brûlée.
***I enjoy the Miso Crème Brûlée. The distinct Miso flavor adds a delightful twist, creating a satisfying combination of sweet and a hint of salt. I highly recommend trying this dessert.

I really enjoyed the restaurant's vibe and the diverse menu selection. I plan to visit again and explore different dishes on the menu.

Service was immaculate. Food was absolutely incredible. We got the chop salad and pork belly lettuce wraps and both were so delicious. Staff was amazing and quick! Drinks were also delicious! Couldn't recommend this place more!

The service was friendly and top notch. The food was creative yet very delicious. The Ambiance and decor was artsy boujee I guess, I liked it very much. Our server was attentive and we were able to get a couple of drinks and didn't have to wait too long for the food or the check. I would definitely go back if we had time.

We ordered the Shrimp, the short rib, and the Korean fried chicken. All were super tasty and delicious. I had a drink that had rum and mint in it and my husband had their take on an old fashioned and it was really good.

This meal was the best we've had in a very very long time. Everything soooo flavorful. Had the walnut quinoa salad (amazing dressing), prawns, tuna, Korean chicken.... All incredible! Lettuce wraps were good but not incredible (got beef it was like stewed meat). Had a drink it was top notch too! Highly recommend!

we were wandering around downtown victoria and looking at the menus posted outside to see which restaurant would be most agreeable to all in our party of four, one being vegan. we agreed the menu at the block kitchen and bar looked the best with interesting items (asian fusion), small and large plates. we walked in just before 6:00 pm on a monday night and was greeted by a friendly server. we were seated shortly after, without reservations and the restaurant was already quite full. this place is trendy, relaxed, sophisticated and casual.

our server was extremely patient and helpful with answering our questions and checking to see what can be done with substituting dishes to make it vegan friendly.

many of the dishes are great for sharing.

we had the chopping block salad, with orange balsamic dressing, it was fresh, light, and colourful. we had the lightly seared ahi tuna tataki, with seaweed salad, and it was delicious. the thai mushroom risotto was rich and flavourful with a slight heat. we also had their tokyo fries topped with smoked bonito flakes, japanese mayo and takoyaki sauce (a tad salty) and korean fried chicken (least favourite). we ended with the dark chocolate pot de creme, and it was perfection. this restaurant is a real gem, great ambience, fabulous food, highly recommend, and will definitely come back.
