Good Evening Edwin,
My name is Jonathan and I'm the manager of Bob's Auto Service. I've tried reaching out to you numerous times but was unable to contact you. I hope you’re doing well— Happy Saturday! Hey first off, I just wanted to apologize with regards to the pricing concern you had on the Shocks and Struts. The reason for the price increase was because the Shocks and Struts were Coil Spring Assemblies, we recommended the Coil Spring Assemblies because the ones you had on the vehicle at the time were not good, they were old, worn and rusted. But the major price factor cost for the Shocks and Struts were because of its availability and the catalog of it. It was a special Coil and Spring Assembly and it was very hard to source at the time, I had to call and search all over the place to find the correct one that fits your vehicle and I finally found one that did. I ordered it, had it for delivery and when it arrived it didn’t fit because there were 3 DIFFERENT ones in the catalog showing up at the time which is why the price is different, they weren't the same. I had to measure each one to see which one it was. I had to drive aprox 20-30 miles for you to locate and confirm that part because I didn’t want you to be without a vehicle for that long. Everyone needs their vehicle to go to work or just to be with their family so I went above and beyond for you. It was not my intention of making you feel like you didn’t get a good deal. It was not my intention to make you feel that I was overcharging you, ripping you off or being greedy. I just wanted to address that because we’re a family owned shop and I would want to be treated as if I myself were the customer coming in at the time too as if that were my own van. I wanted to tell you in person but I didn’t feel the need to because well I don’t like showing off but I feel that I just needed to reach out to you to give you the full story.
However, with regards to your last comment about buying a tire and installing it at Walmart for $87, we charge $50 PER Tire for Labor which includes Installation, Balancing, Tire Disposal of your supplied tire. You wanted to install a LT Tire, Light Truck Tire so $50 PER Tire = $200 TOTAL COST FOR ALL 4 LT TIRES is definitely reasonable in my view. Cheaper than Walmart as well. Along with that, if you go to Walmart you did not factor in your GAS and the potential Toll Charges you will be incurring as in San Francisco there is NO Walmart here at this time. I really do not like it when people judge a book by its cover when all your questions can be answered if asked from the beginning. It is really offensive in my view. Again it was really not my intention to do any of what you mentioned. I just wanted to reassure you, that’s all Edwin.

Price went up twice as much reason being they gave me was because of a special part they said of a rear suspension and coil spring assembly. Work at parts store and know fully well by going online, checking prices were about less than half the cost of the $300 charge. Also overcharged on front shocks absorber. Added back brake shoe work $138 for shoes. Basically was way over charged for parts and charged 4 hours of labor at $150 hour. Took them maybe 3. Charged $1400 and should've been around $1000. No special parts, just greedily over charged in my opinion, what do you think? Firestone quoted me $1000 for shocks & struts and I've should've tooking it there instead. Live and learn - look at reviews from now on and clearly communicate with who ever you deal with.

Don't ask me about any car service related things... I'll crumble and say I don't know!
My dashboard oil light was turning on/off on me while driving and my initial oil change appointment with Hyundai wasn't until a couple weeks away. Seeing my dashboard lights turn on gives me so much anxiety - so I decided to find a spot near me that would do my oil change ASAP and was reliable.
Yelp had Bob's Auto Service pop up and after reading reviews, I decided I would call to see if they would see me day of for an oil change. The location is in North Beach and it is a bit snug in terms of parking, nonetheless service was fast, kind, and reassuring.
Price was super reasonable (cheaper than going to the actual dealership) and quick. I dropped my car off, grabbed a drink at Tony's, and came back to my dashboard light gone and fresh oil in my car!

Wow. I cannot say enough good things about Bob's Auto Service. Jason (owner) and his son Jonathan took incredible care of me. Jonathan corresponded with me while Jason and the team worked on my car, I really appreciated the kind communication.
As a young woman, automotive services can be tricky for fear of being scammed, etc. But I never felt that way here. In fact, their pricing is REALLY good, plus you won't find service like this anywhere else. Family-owned and operated is a huge plus.

Was searching around for quality auto shop in SF because I needed new brake pads & rotors. To my surprise right in North beach has an amazing family owned shop! Great quality at fair prices! Will get you in fast and follow up promptly! Was able to do a full brake service, tire rotation and full synthetic oil change within one day! Recommend this shop to anyone.

I brought my Smart Car in due to a check engine light DTC present. Upon having their technician diagnose the issue, they found that the Clutch Shift Solenoid was worn out due to intermittent voltage. They replaced it with quality OEM parts at a good price. I'm super happy I brought it to them! Their turnaround time was same day too! Thank you Bobs!

Mandy G.San Francisco, CA7274571041Sep 19, 2023I'm not the brightest person when it comes to car issues. About 2 weeks ago, my car notified me that one of my tires were low on air. I was like eh, it can wait.. since it was in the 20s for PSI while the others were in the 30s. Fast forward to yesterday morning, my PSI was at 17 all of a sudden and others were at 30. I was like hm, maybe I will as CK to help me put air in my tires after work. When I get into my car after work, my tires were now at 15 PSI! I call CK and I ask him to help me put air in my car. He says it sounds like a nail was on my tire and I didn't realize to check. While I wait outside for him, I go check and lo and behold - there's a nail in my car!
This was after work, so most places were getting ready to close. I bust out my handy dandy yelp page and look for a place nearby that can help me. I find Bob's Auto Service and give them a quick call if they can do it right now. They say yes and I drive over. Took about 30 mins and $40 to remove the nail and patch up my tires. Not bad! The guy was also nice enough to put more air in all my tires.
