YUM! This place is insane, the smells just walking up to the truck make you want to stop and try everything on the menu.
We got the falafel pita wrap and the eggplant plate. I def recommend the plate if you want to try a variety of items. The plate included a pita, salad, hummus, chickpea fries (the best) and then the main you choose.
I wish this place has more locations all over Canada
So many options to choose from for the mains and they all tasted incredible, I especially liked that everything is vegan/vegetarian so I didnt need to worry about cross contamination. Prices are a little high but it's worth itHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jan 19, 2020
Have been looking for a new spot to add to my lunch rotation. Chickpea has been on my radar as a spot to finally try some vegan food. With my goal of getting healthier, now seemed like a great time to stop by.
Located above the Waterfront Food Court outside, it's a fairly popular spot. I ordered the shawarma platter and all I can say is 'wow'. There is just so much food in one serving. It was my first time having shawarma and I thought it was pretty good. Everything else was great for me. I loved how delicious the pita bread was. The hummus was delightful and I had as much of it as I could. The salad was crisp and nice. I loved the fries as well and how thick they were.
I am super hyped for the next time I don't bring a lunch cause that means I'll definitely be stopping by Chickpea. Its absolutely one of the best spots to drop by when working Downtown and needing that boost of energy to finish off the day.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Oct 3, 2020
I have been looking forward to trying Chickpea for years! The truck is just never around when I am. Finally the stars aligned and I was able to try their famous falafel.
Let's talk about the fries first though.
If I could just rate the chickpea fries I would give them 5 stars!!! The chickpea fries are rad; they come with spicy chilli sauce and fresh mango sauce. Dare I say a vegan poutine kind of thing. Just saucy and flavourful. We would both order the fries anytime!
Backstory I grew up with many middle eastern families around me and this is not the falafel that I know. Yes it was crunchy. Which is essential for falafel, but it wasn't my favourite flavour profile. It didn't have a classic falafel taste, I expected some spinach as per the reviews; but this was not pleasing. I love spinach but for me this was lack lustre. The presentation made it even worse, the way the wrap is made all the sauce and salad is at the very bottom, and the first like 15 bites are all falafel. As my partner would say the ratio in the fillings is all off. If I ever tried the falafel again it would be platter style. I would not do a pita anything from them personally.
I think the world needs more vegan, I will go back to try their "shawarma" platter and EVERYONE SHOULD ALWAYS GET THE CHICKPEA FRIES ;)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 24, 2018
I've tried the Chickpea Food Truck thrice now, once for Falafel and once for Sabich. I wouldn't necessarily call it cheap, but I would say it's pretty good bang for your buck.
For about $13 excluding tax for a combo, you get a small portion of salad, chickpea fries, pita, hummus and your main of choice. It may not look huge, but it is very, very filling.
One thing you have to keep in mind is the line and time of day you're visiting. On my first visit, with a crowd surrounding the truck, I waited half an hour for my order, and could not wait any longer. I was offered a sincere apology and given a refund. Not ideal, but they were very nice about it, so I was more than willing to give them another chance.
My second visit with a coworker had our order up in about 20 minutes. The line was more modest, and I was craving something healthy. Still a bit on the long side, but the food and service made up for it. I would definitely get the falafel again.
Yesterday I ordered the Sabich(fried Eggplant). With a much shorter lineup and crowd, my order was up in five minutes flat! That said, I didn't really care for the Sabich. The chickpea fries are always a highlight, and the hummus is good too, but I would try something different next time.
So depending on your timing, your mileage may vary. I have to give it to the staff here - they have been very pleasant in my experience, which can't be easy given the number of orders they have to churn out.
Chickpea's truck is definitely worth a try in my book.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 21, 2018
Really enjoyed the Falafel platter here
The platter came with a salad, hummus, choice of main (I got the falafels), and chickpea fries and pita bread
The falafels were crispy in the outside and soft on the inside. Although there was no meat, I didn't miss it at all. Chickpeas fries were creamy and crispy, while the hummus was smooth and light
I really liked the mango sauce!
There was a lineup during lunch rush but the crew there seemed very chill and niceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 28, 2018
I thought I'd give this food truck a try since I didn't have as much luck at the brick and morter restaurant a while back. Service was super friendly and food came out fresh and quick. Falafels were fried up very crisp and there was a lot of food stuffed into that pita. I enjoyed the small bits of fried eggplant - yum - but besides that, I just didn't taste too much flavor - even with the different sauces available. I was definitely FULL though - that one pita turned into two meals.
Chick pea fries were good, - crispy momentarily and then got mushy a few minutes later, but the sauce was good. Hummus is still very yummy as is the pita though!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 2, 2018
After eating here, I can't say I really like chickpeas. I guess you can't have too much of anything. Too much chickpea is not a good thing. Well, so I got the Sharwarma with the chickpea fries. Bad idea. Super bad idea. Chickpea by itself was already very filling. I barely touched the fries. I couldn't finish either of it.
I found the sharwarma spicy when I got to the end. Also the chickpea fries and sharwarma was not good the next day. Just too much.
So the Sharwarma was $11 and $3 for the chickpea fries.
I didn't realize that this is a vegan food truck when I arrived. Now I know. First bite tasty and after that it went downhill.
I guess if you are vegan, this is the truck for you.
Note this place takes a long time to prepare each order. I waited for 45 mins for my food. Just too long.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 2019
The portion size is good and the food is definitely flavorful! I love vegan food and enjoyed my lunch here. I ordered the Kasum plate - fried cauliflower with hummus, salad, pita and chickpea fries. The cauliflower was definitely the best and the hummus was great too. The chickpea fries were a bit soft and I think it would have tasted better if cut thinner. They also have several sauces to try and that was pretty much the highlight of my meal. My favorite was the Rosemary Tahini and the Basil Tahini. I also like the Mango sauce, it was almost like a chutney. If I come back to Vancouver I would try out their falafels next time.

Had been wanting to try this for awhile and finally did earlier this week!
Pros:
-Massive portion. I ordered the falafel pita and couldn't believe how big it was.
-Lots of veggies in the falafel
-Friendly service
-Creative sides - I got the fried cauliflower
Cons:
-The falafel itself is pretty dry and unfortunately most of the sauces on the table near the truck were empty. So my whole meal ended up being a little dry.
-The large portion is great but with veggies at bottom and falafel on top, this pita is very difficult to eat! High probability of dropping a falafel on the ground.
Will come back another day to try something else and hopefully they have more sauce available!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 22, 2017
Yum yum yum, I love chickpeas and this truck is chickpea heaven. My friend and I shared their falafel platter with amazing, well spiced and crispy falafels, a few slices of deep fried eggplant, chickpea fries with a nice sweet and tangy sauce to contrast the other flavours, a huge dollop of hummus that was creamy, yet smooth and finally, some salad to cut all the grease. We also ordered a side of the fried cauliflower and although the batter was a little bit too heavy on these, their plethora of tahini sauces to choose from made each bite a different experience.
Overall, I am not a huge fan of too much fried food as it is very greasy and although this meal was mainly fried, I didn't feel bogged down afterwards but instead was extremely satisfied with the delicious vegan goodness i had just consumed. I would order those falafel again in a second.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
