Five Star Water Heaters

Highly recommended for the coastside.

Large 75 gallon water heater blew up middle of the night. Called the next morning and had guys here within hours. I called three companies and Five Star was the only business that actually requested pictures and gave me a real quote. The other two quotes were both over $2000 more expensive and would be two or three days away. This included made in America Bradford White tank.

When the work was being done had some extra plumbing due to broken valves and was upfront and very reasonable price.

Soa came out and worked on our water heater on Christmas Eve. He was courteous and informative. After fixing our water heater, he suggested we contact the water heater manufacturer to secure another part under warranty. Upon receiving the part, Soa came back installed the item and waived the service trip fee.

I have been using Yelp to find contractors. So, I felt the obligation to review my experiences for others' benefits. I will simply put the facts here, instead of my opinions, for your own judgement since I felt the best reviews helped me were those just telling the facts.

I had contractors check on my leaking water heater. FSWH gave me an email with a quote $100+ lower than another one covering two more small jobs which I did not think absolutely needed. So I went with FSWH since my out of pocket would be lower.

A guy came on time and quickly finished work. It was not a hard job and I could have done it by myself if I could have yanked out the old unit on my own just like the guy simply pulled it down from the stand without caring much about the stand. In general, it was fine with the work done and I would have rated 4 stars until the tech was charging the bill in the end.

He said it would be the quoted total plus tax. I was a bit surprised and asked what tax. He said you buy the heater just like you buy others in stores and you need to pay tax. I said why it was not listed in the quote but he said they had assumed I would have known since people need to pay tax for everything. Anyway, I paid what he asked for at the time.

Afterwards, I pulled out my old bills for contractor work, since my impression was different, and confirmed I never paid tax even in case of something installed. It had always been paying exactly what quoted. I checked around with friends and they told me it should always be just paying the quoted. If they collect tax, they have to include it in the quote. Quote is quote and it is all what you need to pay. They can not collect tax if they don't have retail license since they will have to submit tax collected accordingly. Basically I was told they were cheating.

I was even led to the board's regulation code which clearly states additional tax should not be collected when clients get a quote for the overall job explicitly using plumbing as example.

I exchanged emails and messages with the manager (Soa) and asked for refund. The manager firstly claimed the tech told me about tax on arrival. But I did not hear anything about tax until making the payment. If they would collect tax, it should have been listed in the quote instead of verbally on arrival. Also, what value was the tax based on? They sent me an email to show taxing me by 9.88% (my local rate) on the quoted total. Since that number does not meet the actual amount collected, they even said a "discount", which we never discussed any discount in any way before that, was applied to come to the number. Since the quoted total covered both labor and parts, they cannot claim no charge was for labor at all. When they "taxed" on the total, it meant they had taxed for labor which is illegal.

After 2 weeks of back and forth, they agreed to issue refund pending for approval from manager who was said to be on vacation. After another 2 weeks of my checking and reminding, they issued the refund.

So, I removed 1 star due to a lot of efforts spent in getting the refund. I am rating 3 stars since I did get refund and the work itself was fine even though not super. Fortunately, I did not need to get a lawyer, covered by my legal plan, involved.

Incredible company. I had an emergency situation on Sunday. They came out right away took care of everything. The crew was nice clean and professional. I highly recommend them for any water heater needs.

Highly recommend FSWH. we had a leak in our water heater and FSWH was prompt in their responses and also had the most competitive quote. Soa came by and was very considerate and answered all my questions. He was able to replace our old water heater and have our hot water back and running in two hours with no issues.

Five Star Water Heaters delivered on the promise of their name. After my 20y old Kenmore water heater started leaking, I requested a quote for a replacement through yelp and sent a few pictures of the previous installation. I quickly received a quote and also got competing quotes in the same range, but what sealed the deal was the same day appointment and the frank conversation on replacement options. In the evening I had a new water heater and hot water again. The total was less than what I expected based on my previous installation 20 years ago.

We were having issues with our water heater and had been without hot water for 3 days. Mind you we have insurance coverage on our water heaters. We had 2 different technicians come out to diagnos our water heater and still no resolution. Becoming very irritated and frustrated with The whole situation I decided to take matters in my own hand I came across FIVE STAR WATER HEATER on yelp and seen a lot of great reviews so decided to give them a call.

I spoke with Soa and he was very professional on the phone I explained to him what was going on and how we haven't had any luck with our insurance company. He was able to squeeze me in that same day to take a look at our water heater,right away he knew it had to be replaced Soa was very knowledgeable and efficient he told me what the cost would be before moving forward with the job. It took no more than 2 hours and we finally had hot water.

If your looking for someone reliable and quick give Soa a call you won't be disappointed. They also have great prices because I called around to get different quotes, we all know water heaters are not cheap.

The name says it all! Five stars! I had a thermocouple assembly go out on my water heater and I needed to get it replaced ASAP and didn't want to shell out for a new water just yet. Five Star Water Heaters had a technician out to my house the same day and the water heater up and running with no issues. I can't say enough about the really helpful and friendly technician, Soa, and the price for the work was very reasonable.

These guys are great. I needed to haul out a 20+ year old water heater on the top floor and install a new one up to code. Gave a reasonable quote on the phone and they were here a few days later. Completed the job quickly and thoroughly. The Tech was a pleasure to deal with and explained everything clearly, and I would not hesitate to contact them again with any water heater needs.
