Best all-day Saturday parking deal in town. $3 validated, $8 non-validated, for the whole day.
This garage is overutilized on the weekdays and completely underutilized on the weekends. So it makes sense that the City of SF would offer an incredible parking deal at this public parking garage on the weekends.
While the area is deserted on the weekends, it's actually a great place to dump your car for the day if you're spending it in SF. Transit or rideshare to your intended destination from here. Just remember to come back by 10pm or else you're locked in.
Remember, street parking is free on Sundays in SF (except at Port of SF meters). If you don't want to leave your car on the street on Sunday, this low priced public garage is a great way to go.
If you need a garage that's open later in the evening, use SpotHero to reserve a space in the Embarcadero Center garage nearby. $10 a day on the weekend with reservations.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 30, 20232 check-ins
Pretty good automated parking garage near downtown and close to the ferry building. There are a few levels and everything is indoor. I always try to park at garages like this in San Francisco.

NO Early Bird $20 rate!
Went there today (Thursday, entered 9:15 am), should've had the $20 flat rate for entering before 9:30.
Instead I was charged $37 for 6 hours, see photo.
No attendants were around at the gate or booth so I reluctantly paid, but I won't be tricked again.
(and they can't spell correctly either - "San Fransisco" - see the receipt photo)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Tiffany W.San Bruno, CA379565Nov 26, 2023Updated review
Things have changed after COVID. I guess everyone/every business got impacted, including GGG. I came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday and did not want to park on the street, with the risk of possibly having my car sabotaged. So i parked here for about 2 hours.
Because so many folks are working from home, they lost alot of revenue during the week. During the weekends this city lot useed to work with the community restaurants and businesses and have a validated parking fee. However, Chiinatown lost so many visitors in general, that program is gone. And with that, the hours as well.
We parked her on Saturday for about 2.5 hours and got locked out! we did not realize they close at 7pm on weekends! that's a bit too early. They no longer have attendants (dont get enough business for a live attendant). Looks like someone also got locked out. The crazy thing is we saw a man and we hollered at him to ask how we can get in. he then tells us his wife works there and asks us to walk up the stairs to get to another street parallel to where we were hollering at him from. However once we arrived the gate HAD JUST closed on us! First, signage needs to be there about their hours and has to be in visible spots ALL OVER THE LOT. Secondly, the man should have told his wife we were coming since we had just spoken to him. Thankfully, we called a number and someone was able to help us get back in and get out. I suggest installing combo locks on their doors and changing the keycode daily. Make use of technology. This way no thieves can get into the garage.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 12, 2014Previous reviewI"m not sure why there are so many complaints here. Well, like anythign else you'd do...you should read and make sure what exactly are the restrictions wouldn't you before you do it? It happened to me once in which i parked in Embarcadero during their special holiday season but i misunderstand it to be all day and it was after a certain time. i ended up having to pay hourly for a few hours but it was my fault for me not reading & getting all the facts completely.
Golden Gate Parking lot is subsidized on weekends by the City and costs $3 if you get a stamp from a participating vendor. You can just print out the list & put it in your car for the future. Otherwise it would be $7 all day parking on weekends. Parking on weekdays would of course be a premium. i've parked countless times during weekends and got my car out before 10pm. If you need to watch a show and dont want to pay more for the after hours parking scout around for another lot or consider taking public transportation. - Marlene P.Newark, CA013Sep 18, 2022
Sadly, my passenger car window was smashed for no reason. We were staying down the street at Le Meredian Hotel, who doesn't offer their own parking, so we decided to park here, BIG MISTAKE. We parked my car overnight on 9/10, came back to it the next day at noon and Saw the damage. Felt so violated seeing all the stuff from my glove compartment thrown on my seat and my window smashed, for nothing. The thief literally got nothing, got away with probably just my work badge, a badge reel, and maybe paperwork. Bad experiences like this is why people don't want to visit SF. Go get a real job and stop breaking into peoples cars, when you're not the one having to pay to get it fixed. And on top of that , still had to pay for the parking which was like $44.From now on, only staying at Hotels with their own parking or taking Bart .

They're smart to make more $$ on weekends knowing how many people shop in Chinatown, especially around Chinese New Year. Portsmouth actually gets FULL, and it's not cheap. With validation, GGG is only $3 all day and throughout the evening 'til 10pm. Where else can you find a private parking lot for this rate in SF...yeah I thought so!
Staff are super friendly, this one guy asked my mom if she wanted to sit while waiting for our cab. He patiently explained the confusing signage on how the validation works and what vendors are accepted. He stated if a vendor uses a funky-looking stamp other than what's pictured on the wall, the ticket will be charged $7. I'm thinking that's still an awesome flat rate, and more importantly, my vehicle is safe.
Highly recommended when shopping in Chinatown or the Embarcadero Center. Btw, there's a free and convenient Chinatown shuttle running on the weekends.

Almost got our car locked in this garage! When it closes, good luck getting out. We luckily had one of the gates open and got out of there!

Is it the cheapest parking garage in town? Not at all. But its close proximity to the Financial District, Embarcadero Center, and the Punchline Comedy Club is hard to beat. And with San Francisco parking these days, it's all about location location location.
On weekdays, they'll charge you $7/hour. And for the day it's close to $30. But on weekends, you can park for just 3 bucks an hour. So I'll give them that.
I agree with some of the other reviewers, the garage signage is bit confusing. It's hard to know where to enter/exit or even how to pay. But all in all, Golden Gateway Garage gets the job done and is a decent place to park for a few hours.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Aug 12, 2017
Because of $3 validated all-day parking on weekends, GGG worked out really well for me today. Moreover, there was free electric charging for 4 hours (enough to fill the tank) AND there was a space at 9:30 in the morning AND nobody prematurely unplugged the electric charge allowing the car to receive a full charge.
According to the online information, there was no mention of free electric charging. Additionally, when we arrived and asked the guy in the neon vest if there was electric charging, he said, "I don't know, you'll have to look yourself." OK....
According to the web page, validation isn't THAT clear other than there is a specific pdf file for Chinatown shops and there's a place at the Ferry Building Marketplace. After asking around at the FBM, Bay Crossing quickly and unemotionally validates your ticket.
After about 4 hours, the car received a full charge and was unplugged by another electric car driver.
Yes, it's true that the place smells like urine and the employees aren't that helpful, but $3 for SF is hard to beat.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tina H.Sunnyvale, CA103159Dec 15, 2019
Terrible signs and horrible service. There are two separate garages both with the same name but no clear sign for the entrances.
We got a validation from a store but the gatekeeper refused to accept the ticket. The stamp is valid just with a light ink. Totally unreasonable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
