Hello Nori offers a fantastic sushi experience that stands out in Vancouver. The shop lives up to its promotion, delivering crispy, warm rice rolled to order. It's a five-star spot with a great environment, excellent service, and delicious food. However, there are a few caveats.
I ordered the 5-roll set, and the made-to-order process ensured each roll was fresh, warm, and crisp. The downside is the wait time; my meal took about half an hour, so if you're in a rush, this might not be the best option for a quick lunch.
The staff are attentive and explain each dish, though today I was watching the Euro 2024 soccer game with my headphones on and missed their descriptions. It turns out that the sushi flavour are alike and I had a hard time to distinguish which sushi roll I am having.
A notable moment during my visit was when they asked me to move to accommodate another party. They compensated me with a complimentary dish, which was a pleasant and unexpected gesture.
Overall, Hello Nori is a must-try for sushi lovers, despite minor drawbacks.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 18, 2024
Finally stopped in to try this place and did not disappoint.
Lobster roll with truffle, spicy bluefin tuna, avocado, Wagyu A5 (special) and great daiginjo sake by the glass served in the traditional bamboo box.
Crispy nori, great service, warm rice.
Very clean stylish room with only 24 seats around the bar.
The rolls come out as prepared with rice still warm, service is attentive and all in all a great experience.
Sashimi feature looked great.
Happy hour Monday to Thurs aft and late night.
Auto grat of 16% which they clearly tell you about and you're given the option to alter.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 14, 2024
Came here for the first time recently for a late ish dinner. The place is smaller than I thought, there's no table and only have bar seats around a U-shape kitchen/serving area. The place is clean and have a nice modern look.
I've been to a similar restaurant in Las Vegas so I sort of know the drill. We ordered the 5 handrolls combo. The chef made our order one by one as we finished the last roll. Of the 5 rolls, our favorite were the scallop and king salmon. While the food is fresh and tasted good, it was not as good as the place I went in Las Vegas. In particular the seaweed is a bit hard to chew through but at the restaurant in Vegas, the seaweed has an insane crunch that chewing through the seaweed every bite was never a problem.
All in all it was a good experience and I may be back if I'm in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 8, 2024
I wanted to check out Robson Street in Vancouver and have some good sushi and this concept was unique and gave me my Robson Street fix as well. With that, comes street parking that is hard to find as this place does not offer private parking. There was only a short wait for our party of 4 around 2pm and this was great since they have limited seating all around a bar.
From there, the menu is straight forward with all hand rolls, made to order. They have combos that you can get that come with certain rolls and you end up saving a few bucks. I got the Combo 6 which included the truffled lobster and the snow crab, both of which I really wanted to try. The rolls aren't that big, but they are delicious. The bar seating allows you to watch them be made.
The scallop roll was unique, but my favorite was the truffle lobster, since the snow crab was a bit heavy on the mayo. We also tried the salmon oshi, which is seared salmon on top of rice and a jalapeno slice on top and it was so good, we ordered a few more. The servie was great and it was a fun experience. I'm glad we came here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 10, 2024
It's such a delicious experience to get freshly-made hand rolls in a clean, well-lit place where the nori wrapper is crisply toasted, the rice is warm, and the filling is fresh. If you haven't had this kind of dining experience, you need to go and try it stat!
My hubs and I have been to Hello Nori twice in the last fours months and now we want to come back every time we visit Vancouver. We enjoyed the king salmon, bluefin tuna, avocado, pickled vegetables, and unagi rolls. Our favorite was the unagi! So good! My hubs also liked the special roll of the day: ikura: salmon roe with shiso leaf.
Service is friendly, polite, and very attentive. Hello Nori is our kind of place. Our dinner came out to be $105.27 CAD which was about $77 USD. A good deal we felt for the great quality and service. We will be back!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jul 24, 2024
We had the best experience here! The sushi chefs, though young, are incredibly skillful. This hand roll bar style lets you pick anything from the menu, and it's prepared right in front of you. Everything is so good.
Despite being busy during dinner, we were seated after a 30-minute wait. The decor is a beautiful blend of traditional and modern Japanese styles. The quality is amazing, and I highly recommend it if you're in Vancouver. A must-visit!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 9, 20241 check-in
I loved the rolls here - the made-to-eat-immediately rolls keep the seaweed crispy, and the rice (yes quality and season of rice matters!) was so good. My favorites were the King Salmon and Spicy Shrimp hand rolls.
We had this for dinner but next time I think we'll come for Happy Hour (Mon-Thursday 2:30-5:30pm) for half off drinks and to just eat two or so rolls.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 28, 2024
Why 5-stars? Because Our first meal in town was a great start to our trip.
--- --- ---
We were scheduled to land in Vancouver at 7:30p and had dinner reservations elsewhere. But elsewhere never happened because our flight was delayed about an hour and we had no chance to make it to the other place before they closed. Enter: Hello Nori. Open late with great reviews and close to our hotel. Win, Win, Win.
Full disclosure: I had recently eaten at a nearly identical concept in Houston and thought the Houston version of Hello Nori was the better one. However, this was still a delicious experience and one I'm happy we had.
We really loved the Ebi Oshi, the Truffle Lobster, the Snow Crab and the Scallop Handrolls. 5-star city here.
The Salmon Oshi, Toro, Yellow Tail and Salmon Handrolls were a solid 4-stars each.
I also ordered the Sakura Blossom and it was one of the better cocktails I can ever remember having. This is a true vacation drink if I've ever had one. But I guess it would also pretty great on a random Wednesday night of a busy work week too.
Thanks for getting our trip started, Hello Nori!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - May 29, 2024
Had such a good time at Hello Nori. Hand rolls were absolutely delicious: crispy seaweed, perfect amount of rice and fresh seafood (I've tried various kinds and all were really good). They have great happy hour specials, and I thought that the prices were very good for the quality and amount of food you get.
I love the concept of sitting around the bar so you can watch your hand rolls being made.
They also have a really selection of various creative drinks!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 2566742905May 5, 2024
Hello Nori is a cute modern Japanese restaurant specializing in hand rolls. They have set menus for 4, 5, or 6 hand rolls, or you can order a la carte. The only seating available is bar seating, which surrounds the food prep area where the sushi chef makes the rolls.
I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PM for a late lunch. It wasn't very busy, likely due to in-between lunch and dinner hours. I ordered the 4-hand roll set (toro, king salmon, snow crab, and spicy shrimp), added one truffle lobster and one unagi hand roll, and had a sweetened nitro matcha tea.
The rolls were fresh and flavorful, a nice balance of cool fish, warm rice, and crisp nori. Rice to fish portions were reasonable. My personal favorites were the snow crab (mildly sweet, creamy) and truffle lobster (fragrant, sweet, and meaty).
Chef did a great job managing multiple customers' orders as she prepared each roll fresh. Service was also very quick and attentive, refilling ginger and water as needed. Hello Nori is a different take on sushi restaurants, focusing on hand rolls. Highly recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
