Two days later, 2 strong, personable folks arrived on time and diligently completed my gardening cleanup, exactly as I wanted and fast, for a fair price. They managed the green waste, taking it out to the street in proper bags for recycling.
I couldn't be happier! I have 4 more projects for these great neighbors (this business is hyper-local to my West Oakland home) and I'm so glad and grateful to have the help while keeping my dollars at work in my own neighborhood. Highly recommended.

Very pleased with Hoes and Ditches' approach to maintenance - they really care about making an overgrown space look tidy, fresh, and new again. My back yard looks so much better. As soon as they finished the job I thought "Why didn't I do this months ago?" High-quality work and thoughtful communication, 10/10, would recommend :)

Christopher S.Berkeley, CA1763Mar 24, 2018HD are really into what they do. We just needed a total clean-up of our back-yard space in Berkeley that had become overgrown and weedy. They came in and went straight to work, cleaning out old brush and weeding the paths and pruning back the various plants. I came home to a new space in my back yard and from there started asking about additional plants and features I could add to make the space even more homely. Today I have a beautiful backyard space in which to relax of an evening or entertain friends of a weekend. I always feel proud when friends compliment me on my garden and have the guys at Hoes and Ditches to thank for it. Keep up the good work!!!
Easy to deal with and honest to a fault, Rosarie in particular has an incredible eye for what plants work and what don't. I had some very specific requests regarding the mood I wanted to create in my garden and these guys definitely exceeded my expectations in every way. These guys are true artistans and really hard workers who have a keen eye for beauty and incredible plant knowledge. East Bay. Once I'd gotten the house re-done I quickly realized
the garden space in the back was next. I heard about Rosarie
through a mutual acquaintance and I can honestly say I couldn't
have wished for a better experience with a gardener. She was
on time, worked hard and fast and quickly transformed the
space through a combination of pruning and weeding and
moving some plants around. She even suggested several ideas
for new plants going forward and so I will definitely be having
her back next month for further work. I couldn't recommend the

Jay L.New York, NY328May 6, 2019Extremely disappointed. They quoted me a certain price to clean the backyard then claimed they did not have enough time to finish. Additionally, they left the backyard half finished and left bags of trash in the back for me to dump. I had to call another landscaper to finish the job. Very unprofessional.

HoesandDitches, that is, Shane and Rosarie, deeply regret that this customer was unhappy with his experience, but we would maintain strongly that we never guarantee any cleanup job to be completed in a given timeframe unless a site visit is performed and a formal estimate is prepared.
In fact, we made it our firm policy some time back, to avoid making such guarantees in order to avoid misunderstandings like this one. We regret that the customer was under the impression that we would complete the job in the scheduled three hours as we have a firm policy of telling customers that “we will do as much as we can within the given time allotted but cannot make guarantees” without onsite estimates being performed first. We do, however, make informed guesses as to the likelihood of a jobs completion in the allotted time but these rely heavily on the clients knowledge of the garden.
Given the size of the job,(3 hours work), the location and the clients desire to get it done asap(in fact, another customer kindly agreed to postpone their garden cleanup to help us accommodate in meeting this customer), we did not have the liberty of performing an onsite visit and estimate. If we did onsite visits for every 3 hour job we would not be financially sustainable.
Additionally, the customer had indicated that he had done the work himself in less than five hours previously. While well intentioned, we feel that perhaps he was not fully aware of the amount of growth that had occurred since he had last seen the property. This is understandable as it is seems to be owned by a real estate rental company that may not have been up to date on the garden’s situation. We literally had to cut our way into the garden in order to create our own path thru the work site. We put in six gardener hours of solid work and got to within 4/5ths of the way towards completion in what seemed like a feat!!!!
Regarding the leaving of debris in bags at the work site, customers have the option of paying for a dump fee on every job. Again, it is our policy to always offer this option as the alternative is to have bags of debris left at the site for pick up by the city. It is our firm policy to make customers fully aware of this when booking a job. In this case, the customer was offered that option and clearly declined it, citing the fee.
We remain confident that we;
offer realistic estimates where site visits are performed,
Give honest and forthright assessment and information where jobs are agreed over the phone without the possibility of site visits and, finally,
work hard and efficiently to fulfill clients expectations in a timely manner.
We love what we do and we take genuine pride in it and our reputation.

Shane and Rosarie couldn't have been more professional and trustworthy with my yard. The communication and punctuality were very appreciated also. It was a big job and they impressed me within the 2 days that they worked. Or was it 3 days? They even waived the dump fee which was very kind and duly noted. I have no problem highly recommending this local company.

Rosarie and Shannon and crew did a fantastic job. Spent good eight hours in weeding and transformed the backyard. We wanted a rock garden with low drought cactus plants. The job was high intensity of
lifting and carrying rocks and soil from street to yard. We thought that
the estimate was fair, for the amount of work that was done. Very happy
with the backyard. I would use Rosarie and crew again, if needed for

Their rates were comparable to other services in the Bay and they were happy to work with us on scheduling given the rainy weather this year, thinking through the options with us, and working within our budget. I would use them again for future projects.

Rosarie is very prompt with responding and I felt like her quotes seemed very fair to me. I had them do a bunch of work on my front and back yard. Which included a lot of new plantings, trimming of old trees, application of new mulch and the installation of a new drip system. All seemed to go very smoothly. The two of them worked two very solid days in our front yard, which badly needed the help, and we could not be happier!! Thanks guys!
