Inside Out Landscaping

David and his team at Inside Out did a fantastic job designing and planting a new back yard landscape for us in Pacifica. His knowledge of which plants will thrive in local microclimates and will look good together in a cohesive design resulted in a finished landscape that my wife and I are both really happy with. The team also installed a drip irrigation system that has worked really well so far.

We wanted the job done fairly quickly due to an event we were hosting at our house, and I was nervous about the work not being finished in time. David reassured me that it was no problem, and he and his crew went from signed contract to demolition to irrigation to finished work in about 3-4 weeks. They were professional, responsive, and flexible throughout the work, including dealing with our irregular schedule and adjusting their schedule to accommodate us.

All the plants are doing well so far, and we've hired Inside Out for regular maintenance to keep everything healthy and neat. While Inside Out is not the cheapest company, they work with you to stay within your target budget, and for the price you get a high level of expertise from David and his team. While perhaps we could have gotten some kind of landscaping done for a lower cost, I don't think we could have gotten such high-quality design and execution for any less. Thanks, David and team!

Inside out had an incredible vision and execution in turning a useless sloping tiny hillside of a backyard into a spectacularly constructed and planted usable yard space with attractive fence, benches, fire pit and room for people to congregate. It is gorgeous looking out at our plants every day as they helped us pick items that would flower throughout the course of the year. Additionally they maintain it very well through monthly visits.

We moved to the Outer Sunset to have a little more space for our son to run around. The backyard of our place was full a pea gravel and the typical concrete slab that you see in typical Outer Sunset backyards. We looked through multiple designers, contractors, etc. and decided to go with David and Inside Out.

Our overall goal was to maximize the backyard space for play, add bike storage, benches for seating, tropical plants, and a grill space. We went through a couple design iterations with David. He had great recommendations on plants, great thoughts on design and was flexible on the fly.

We originally were trying to save some existing plants moving them to another location but I am glad we cleared everything out and started with a clean slate. We were also thinking about a raised garden but decided to go with storage benches, another decision I am glad we made.

His team took out all the pea gravel, jackhammered and removed the concrete slab, removed sand/dirt accordingly, removed all existing plants/trees.

His team was very professional, they arrived/left at the same time everyday.

We added two benches with storage which was a great hit during many play dates having multiple places for adults and kids to seat/play. We also store various toys, gym equipment (weights for me), bbq items in plastic containers so they do not get wet with the morning dew or rain. The bike storage unit is practically waterproof. Everything stays cool and dry even when it pours in the winter. The turf is still flat, no crazy gopher mounds like you get elsewhere in the Outer Sunset (they installed gopher wire below the turf).

Inside Out also does maintenance and guarantees the plants for the 1st year. We have them come out monthly and have had them replace some of the smaller plants as some did not last. All of the large plants and trees are doing great along with the Giant Birds of Paradise.

We also had Inside Out build us a trash bin area out front after they finished the backyard.

Everything looks great! Many of our neighbors and friends have commented on how great our backyard looks. We even got a nice note from a neighbor we did not know saying how he enjoys waking up with the view of palm trees out of his bedroom window.

We cannot be happier with the job David and his team have done. We highly recommend Inside Out!

Our front and back yards were extremely overgrown. Inside Out gave us a reasonable quote and did amazing work. Our yards are now pristine. The guys worked hard and didn't leave until the job was done.

Amazing experience with David and his team. We did a full backyard renovation, including a new fence and hardscaping with built-in seating. David came up with the design and worked through our feedback without issue. Even with a few hiccups from other work we had going on in parallel, David and his team were able to get things done quickly with a fantastic level of detail. Extremely professional and great with communication. Would absolutely recommend and work with again in the future!

Hello Views! David and his crew are amazing! I asked them to help me clean up the backyard at one of my upcoming listings, and they blew me away with what they were able to do. My goal was to make the yard look larger and showcase some of the views beyond the brush...and they did just that...job well done!!! I will certainly use them again. Thank you David, Adam and all.

4.5 stars! We engaged Inside Out for a project involved moving existing gravel, excavating existing dirt to lower surface lever, laying down gopher wire and heavy-duty weed barrier, and replacing a few grass plants that the dogs had destroyed. On the side, we also asked that Inside Out do some seasonal "deep cleaning" maintenance on our yard, which is gravel with mostly succulents. David had a two-man crew complete the project this February (delayed from January due to rain).

TLDR: Overall, I would recommend working with Inside Out, after having worked with two other local landscaping services in the last year and a half, and intend to reach out to them for future projects. David is responsive and knowledgeable, and the crew was thorough and professional. The only reasons for not posting a full 5-star review are (1) this is a more expensive service (we did not engage Inside Out for a spruce-up of our front yard due to cost) and (2) some follow-up work wasn't quite as meticulous as the initial project.

Pro: David was responsive to our initial inquiry in December 2018 and to our follow-up questions over the holidays. When we engaged Inside Out, we appreciated that David and team expressed opinions about what could work in our space and for our needs (which are largely driven by two small but high-energy dogs). The crew completed the project in two days and appeared to be thorough and efficient. The gopher wire and weed barrier looked great going down -- high quality and neat. They did a great job making aesthetic decisions about pruning back our existing plants and working with two different sizes of gravel that we supplied. The crew was also generally friendly and professional.

Con: The only hitch with the project was minor -- the crew initially did not remove some existing grass plants when they put in new, hardier grass plants. David was super responsive when we inquired about follow-up and sent someone the next business day. The fix was not quite as meticulous as the initial job in that the crew did not excavate the area to be level, but they did cover the holes in the gopher wire and weed barrier when they took out the old grass plants. The seasonal "deep clean" maintenance on the yard (e.g., pruning back overgrown succulents, cleaning up all winter's worth of leaf litter, etc.) was well done, but not really different from similar maintenance that we've had done.

David came to our backyard rescue, as we had tons of weeds, raccoon damage for lawn, and general poor quality from previous contractor. He worked within our small scope and totally transformed our space. We love it and the process was actually fun. He was communicative, his crew was on time and professional, and the quality of work is great. They make sure to do things right. So happy we find Inside Out!

When my husband and I bought our house in the Outer Sunset five years ago our realtor gave us some great advice: "Always go with a gardener who guarantees their plants for a year, otherwise you could end up with a yard of dead plants that cost thousands of dollars and nothing to show for it." Long story short - we did not heed this advice and first went with a gardener who did not guarantee her plants for a year... and we wasted a painful amount of money for dead plants and nothing to show for it. We wish we had found David and his team sooner/first. We are happy with them for many reasons - but if nothing else, they guarantee the plants for the first year if they do the monthly maintenance. Most of our "David" plants are thriving, and a very few little ones are not - I can't tell you how much peace of mind it gives us knowing that they are "guaranteed."
