I don't think that this place deserves the rating that it has. Its definitely more than 2.5 stars!
The ambiance reminds me of one of those back in the day period k dramas, where the main charecters have a meal in a tavern like place. Its super casual and you'll either get a booth or seated in one of those tables with fake chairs on the center bench, in the middle of the restaurant. We came into the restaurant in the middle of a downpour for lunch and they have an area to park your umbrellas at the front so you're not dripping water all over the restaurant.
I thought service was fast, we were seated immediately, got drinks quickly (there is also complimentary hot tea in carafes already on the table), and the food came out earlier than expected. Pricing on the dishes is kind of steep. $19 on average for an BBQ meat dish seems like it is on the higher side but one can feed two and you do get four complimentary Ban Chan side dishes (kim chee, turnip kim chee, Korean seaweed salad, and sweet soy potatoes) as well as rice.
I caution everyone on the spice level, you can choose of how spicy you want it and "spicy" is two degrees more than spicy. The hubby and I love spice but this was on the higher end of hot and we needed lots of white rice and beer to calm that fire down. Through all of that spice the chicken we ordered was delicious though. I can see of why others think that you don't get the value for what you are paying with the meat dishes. There isn't a lot of meat, and they do sub in loads of onions, mushrooms, zucchini slices, and those Korean dumpling circle noodle like pieces.
Our total bill came to $29 which is fabulous for lunch and I can see of why this is a popular place to get your Korean bbq fix.

Jang Mo Jib is my go-to spot for affordable and delicious korean food.
My usual order is their Kimchi Sundubu which is kimchi tofu soup that's bubbling as it arrives at the table and comes with a bowl of rice. You can customize the spice level and I usually get medium spice. During the cold season this bowl of soup hits different, like it's sooooo yummy.
Sometimes if I come here with my family we get their Iron Wok Chicken BBQ which is spicy chicken, rice cake, and veggies on a iron plate. It also has cheese, corn, and fluffy egg pudding on the side. It's a big serving so it's good for sharing. The chicken and veggies actually come out cold and is heated up over the small stove. It's really yummy and not crazy spicy. The egg pudding is probably my favourite part.
I've also tried their fried dumplings which is super delicious and flavourful. Not too heavy as well which is nice considering it's deep fried.
Their bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) are also really good! It's nice to eat on a hot day. I like how there is an option for broth or a little less broth (I don't like having too much broth in mine).
I definitely recommend Jang Mo Jib for anyone who wants good quality korean food without breaking the bank.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 15, 2020
Post lockdown review: I quite enjoy coming to the upstairs bar and lounge during this pandemic. They have Sapporo on tap! The tables are socially distanced out and groups are limited to six. Downstairs I certainly enjoy their hotpot and gyozas. This is one of the best Korean restaurants in the city. The staff is friendly and the food is good. It is fairly priced and not too spicy. I highly recommend the gyozas here. I do have to mention the decor here. It is one of a kind and it feels like being back in ancient Korea/Asia. It really creates a more traditional atmosphere and blends tradition with modern fare, especially upstairs.

There are a few dishes that I must order when I come to Jang Mo Jib. One of them is the Jap Chae. This dish usually comes with beef but I normally asked for the vegetarian version. It is fantastic, perfectly flavoured. Another dish, is the seafood pancake. I absolutely love everything about this pancake, from the texture, flavour to the sauce it comes with.
The side dishes are amazing too. The kimchi was perfection and the pickled daikon also another of my favourite. We also had some delicious marinated seaweed as well as some marinated potatoes, which I can never have enough of.
We have other dishes last night as well such as the pork bone soup and pan fried dumplings.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 208493643Jul 21, 2018
Went in before I read the rating, but it's about right. I went in partly for old time's sake as we used to go to their Kingsway location years ago. It wasn't our first choice but our favorites along with the Robson cluster were all full with a long waitlist on a warm Saturday evening.
Service, as mentioned by some reviews, was indeed interestingly questionable. We asked how long the wait will be and was told 15 minutes, but 2 minutes later we were summoned. The table, however, was awkwardly placed in the back. It was a long table for 8, but we were seated at one end, with the other end to be occupied moments later.
Our waitress, while fast on taking the order, was cute as her English was limited, but her joyful attitude made up for her flaws. She correctly reconfirmed our order before placing it with the kitchen.
Many items such as tea and kimchi refills required at least two requests most of the time. Being tucked away in the corner meant we weren't very visible, and calling a server was a challenge.
On to the food....the mandoo, steamed dumpling, was sizable, but they packed it with mostly meat, making it a dryer bite. Most of the time, I shouldn't be complaining about more meat and less veggies which many restaurants do to save costs, but the taste and bite need a balance. The skin was on the thick side too.
The beef stew with tofu was good, but most of the taste came from the jalapeno pepper. Otherwise, a pretty standard dish.
The dolsot bibimbap was fine, but the bowl was not quite hot enough to "burn" the rice to make it crispy, which is the whole reason for ordering the dolsot for $2 more. Gojujang was lacking taste and had no kick to it.
The place was abuzz with a full house, but there just wasn't enough servers to handle such a crowd properly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Cindy S.Burnaby, Canada2882317Aug 20, 2018
Delicious Korean food! Enough menu options to keep you interested. Taste is good and portion is decent.
Star off because of the pricing. A little more expensive than necessary for the portion size. (Ex: $20 for a skillet of BBQ beef). Service is decent.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 14, 2018

love those Korean Karaoke machines! they store a lot.. remember those days when u used 2 have 2 switch those giant laser discs just 4 each n every freaking song? it's like a workout! but cool nostalgic as I am saying it n reflecting back.. so w/ their machine, they give u a remote that is in Korean, but also give u a laminated English sheet 2 go w/ it so that u don't embarrass urself by selecting a wrong song 2 sing in front of ur friends.. i.e. u want 2 b cool n rap Nelly's, 'Country Grammar' n instead u selected Minnie Riperton's, 'Lovin' You' (hey I love Minnie, but some guys feel embarrassed depending on the crowd they r w/)
---------------
[a get 2 know me moment: music is great! n as many times I have said I listen 2 a variety, just wat my mood feels like.. Rap R&B Hip-Hop Dance Soft Rock Jazz Funk Soul Cantonese Pop Korean Pop Reggaeton Texas Blues..

Bounce, the late great.. Leslie Cheung for 80s Cantopop.. just so many..! too many..!]
-------------

prices r pretty cheap.. that's y I love Canada n u don't even have 2 use coupons.. I believe it's $20 an hr. the last time I was there w/ my wife n I sang my favorites like Johnny Gill, 'My My My' I can pull that off easily b/c I have a deep voice.. yes, many of us Chinese men have deep voices n mine is pretty sexy sexy lol.. Barry White b/c it comes natural w/ Can't Get Enough of Your Love.. Billy Joel, 'Just The Way You Are'.. Rick Astley, 'Together Forever' b/c that is 1 of my wedding dance songs.. Brian McKnight.. Boyz II Men.. even rap b/c nobody do it, so let me rap 2Pac's, 'Dear Mama' which is 1 of my favorites 2 rap 2 each n every time

My go to, convenient, bang for your buck Korean place on Robson has to be Jang Mo Jib. They've got a huge menu with options for most dietary preferences and great side dishes (the most important component of a good Korean restaurant in my opinion). I usually go for a Soondoobu in a stone pot or Jab Che (Korean glass noodles stir fried with veggies). Food usually comes out pretty quick and is always consistently good.
If my Korean boyfriend likes it, I think it's safe to say this place deserves a good review.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nt s.Encinitas, CA394314Jan 20, 2019
Food is good, staff is friendly, portions generous. Dumplings look like they are made fresh. The Bbq beef is really good.
Dont. take Amx , So not good for business travelers.
I just came in from airport and was really hungry this hit the spot. Looks like a nice locals place. Has entertainment upstairs. I would go back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jacquelyne D.Cambridge, Canada3764Apr 25, 2019
Went for food, around a not busy early lunch. Very chill service, not super prompt, but laid back atmosphere, but very welcoming and comfortable. Pretty place.
We ordered squid, very good, and a soup, was good but I like more noodles and sides of rice and I really liked the kimchi it was more sour. And we were big fans of the pan Fried dumplings.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
