One of the best eating experiences is slurping thick chewy noodles dipped in a dense but velvety smooth pork bone based ramen broth.
They make a pretty good pork based ramen broth, not oily nor gamey. Their house made meat toppings were also very well prepared and went very well with the noodles.
But what impressed us were their chicken broth based ramen with thinner noodles. Their broth has a wonderful roasted chicken flavour and the chicken breast slices were perfectly cooked, as it was tender and juicy. A real great bowl of ramen.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 22, 2024
Lobster ramen - the soup barely had any lobster flavor. Compared to any lobster bisque this was super watered down. The pricing is very weird. Add half a lobster tail is +$3 and a full tail is +$7. However, in their dine out menu, choosing chashu lobster ramen is +$3 and adding half tail is an extra+$6 and full tail is $12 (may have remembered it wrong - forgot to take a pic). The lobster was not fresh and sweet at all. It was not worth it. We also opted for the risotto where they take your leftover soup, add rice and torch the cheese on top. I think you need to leave only a little bit of soup or else it doesn't turn out right. The chef does not care how much soup you leave and will still throw the rice in the cook. It became a soupy rice congee and the cheese could not even torch well because there was so much soup. Highly do not recommend this gimmick ramen.
Classic tsukemen - really well flavored dipping broth. The noodles were thick and chewy. The menma was marinated so well! The only downside is that the broth gets cold fast from dipping the room temperature noodles. I would definitely recommend this as an alternative to soup ramen.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 19, 2023
I've been hearing all the hype about this place and since I love me a good bowl ramen or tsukemen. I decided to visit Menya.
They advertise that they are the "King of Tsukemen". Let me tell you.... THEY ARE. All of the ingredients were of top quality. You can tell that the broth was a labour of love. The noodles are made in house and everything tasted like it was meticulously selected to construct this absolute flavour blast of a bowl.
Parking is so so in the area as it is located in Robson.
The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great! Would definitely visit again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - May 31, 2023
I was too busy stuffing myself with Japadogs and Chung Chun Korean rice hotdogs to save room for anything else, so my wife took point on this review. She wanted ramen, and the Lobster Ramen advertised on the sandwich board outside snagged her attention, so we headed inside, were seated immediately, and wasted no time ordering her a bowl. Before we'd had enough time to properly admire the gorgeous interior décor, it arrived in front of her, piping hot and ready, and every bit as delicious as she had hoped it would be. Savory, salty, a little buttery, with a sizeable lobster tail stewing in the broth, immersing it with its wonderful flavor profile.
"A little unusual", she remarked at first, but still incredibly delicious, increasingly so as time went on: the more she ate, the more she loved it. By the end, not only was she sad it was gone, but the thought that we don't have anything of the sort back home in Portland (as far as we've discovered in our explorations thus far, anyway) made the experience even more melancholic and evanescent. Because of that, I can guarantee that Menya Itto will be a required stop on our next visit to Vancouver!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 9170548Jul 28, 2023
Decent ramen spot on Robson. Had their Gyokan ramen and 3pc gyoza set for lunch.
The broth was surprisingly delicious, very thick and rich - at first I wasn't sure when they described it as chicken and seafood broth with scallop oil, but it was not fishy in the least. The noodles are the type I usually don't care for, but this was a great of version of it.
The gyoza was ok. The flavour was a bit bland and the texture of the meat inside was a bit weirdly "fluffy" and soft, and I couldn't discern any noticeable shredded cabbage in the meat, which is a typical ingredient in gyoza.
While I probably wouldn't eat the gyoza again, the ramen broth will have me coming back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 14279128Apr 30, 2023
Wanted to try out this new (to us) ramen restaurant! Heard they are known for their tsukumen so I had to try that.
Service was quick, wasn't too busy for visiting on a weekend.
There was a table a few down from us that was talking quite loudly, wasn't terrible but still a little disturbance while trying to enjoy the meal.
The tsukumen was good, honestly not the best I've ever had but was still tasty. Felt like it was missing something but I couldn't say what. Noodles were a good texture and the pork was good. My partner had the lobster ramen as I believe it was a special menu item. The broth was very thick, like pasta sauce thick instead of soupy, not sure if it was supposed to be.
Overall it was a pretty good meal!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1096374227Mar 25, 2023
I know many people have already tried their ramen here but I have been waiting for a long time, making sure I don't need to wait in line, and walking in with a table available right away haha
My family and I got there when they opened at 11:30am. Definitely no waiting. Got a table right away. Customer service was great. Staff were attentive taking good care of all customers. They are Japanese who are always very polite and friendly.
We ordered the Noko Gyokai Ramen with chashu and vegan one. The broth of both dishes were good and ingredients were great. Two things that I would criticize on would be the noodles themselves and broth. We felt the broth had quite a lot of MSG. We were very thirsty after eating the ramen. We did not drink the soup though. The texture or quality of the ramen or noodles was just okay. We had really good ones elsewhere.
The interior design and decor are great! It is nice and bright inside. The table and chairs are clean. Food came out quickly once we had ordered. Staff was friendly and efficient. We only spent half an hour to order the food and eat it and we could leave around 12.
If I would come back here next time, I would try their special lobster ramen and/or Tsukemen. I might try their desserts as well although they don't have too many options for desserts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 24, 2023
This is a popular place for tsukeman in Vancouver with a long queue outside. Every time I have to wait for about 15min or more for the table. When I looked inside, are the tables fully occupied? Interestingly NO. There are enough servers but no one led the customers to the vacant tables while many customers are waiting outside in the chilly day. why can't they serve the customer to the table first and shorten the queue?
For the tsukeman and ramen, I tried the classic tsukeman and Noko Gyokai Chasiu ramen in my visits. I think they are overpriced for the portion I got. Perhaps the tasty soup base for dipping the noodle is the key element but you only get two slides of thin pork meat. It is the same for The Gyokai Chasiu Ramen. End up you have eaten a lot of carb and you will feel hungry very soon. The soup was a bit thicker for ramen.
In conclusion, they can let the customers get to the table faster, more meat for the noodle and don't make the soup too thick for ramen. I would like to see the restaurant can make more improvements in these areas.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 334601531Feb 20, 2023
Tested out Menya Otto's dineout menu and it was a delight! The ramen here is made to perfection with a balanced hearty broth and chewy noodles! I got the chance to try out their pork and chicken chashu. In my opinion the chicken was better because it was sooo juicy!
The appetizer of chicken skin, scallop ceviche and potato salad were all pretty tasty. The chicken skin was on the salty side but the yuzu sauce balanced it out nicely. The scallops in the ceviche were fresh and the potato salad was creamy
We rounded off our meal with the yuzu pana cotta which was something I was looking forward to. The Pana cotta was in the firm side so if you prefer that you'll love it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 885191Aug 1, 2023
i think i would enjoy this more if it came hot. i always love their thick chewy noodles but i found the taste a little lacking. i felt like overall there is not much too special about this and i would not get it again. (you do get rice at the end to mix with the leftover sauce!)
the ramen broth was super super rich and thick.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
