I've been to Grand Ave for dining at the large dim sum and seafood restaurant for celebrations over the years. Grand Ave is a busy street with restaurants and other businesses and street parking, which is metered, is hard to come by and I've never found a space there.

So grateful that there's this garage on Miller Ave. that is a short walk to the middle of Grand Ave. It's a four level garage with two elevators, one on the north side of the garage and one on the south side which leads to the walkway to Grand Ave. Remember your parking space number.

Rates are $1.25 per hour and free parking on Sundays. You pay at the pay kiosks on the first floor next to the south side elevator. You enter A for English or B for Spanish, enter your parking space number and the amount of time you wish to park, pay by Visa/MC or coins and press green check to finish transaction. You don't need to put your receipt on your dash.

If you can find parking on the streets, Miller Garage is a good option for your parking needs for the area.

I usually use this garage when I visit South San Francisco. It's a great lot in a very nice location -- just a block away from busy Grant Avenue. The lot is clean and well-trafficked. The roof spaces provide a beautiful views of the city, the mountain sign and nearby San Bruno Mountain. However, I had a strange incident today. I had to be in the city for a meeting at 2:30 PM.

As I arrived to the garage, I noticed an officer checking vehicles and giving tickets. I continued driving until I parked on the third level (where I don't need a city permit but only pay the hourly rate). I immediately walked down the stairs and paid using the machine on the wall (next to the northeast elevator). I selected MAX TIME (which goes all the way until 6 PM).

After I paid, this same officer approached me. He saw me pay and then asked which space I parked in. I told him the space and he wrote it in his little notebook. He mentioned the problems that they've been having with the machine. He then thanked me and told me that I saved him time because he wouldn't have to check my vehicle.

A couple of hours later (around 4:45 PM), I walked back to my car and discovered a parking violation under my wiper blade. I thought that it might have been a mistake, but my vehicle's license plate number was included.

I immediately went downstairs and typed in my parking number. Sure enough, my space is still good until 6 PM (Max Time). So, I took photos of the screen (showing that I was good) and the location of the machine (with my space, time remaining still show and listed on the screen). I then took photos of my vehicle with the space listed.

Unfortunately, there is no place on the ticket listed to call. So, I went home (to Palo Alto) and visited the website. I logged in with my violation number and immediately appealed. I included the photos of my vehicle/space and the machine's screen and location.

I don't know if the officer simply got confused by it and gave me a ticket in good (albeit incorrect) faith. It is frustrating that I'm stuck appealing a ticket when there is absolutely no violation.

Hopefully, this will be resolved rather seamlessly. I've never received a parking ticket in my entire life. I am always extra careful for it. In fact, I've parked at this lot many, many times. I've always paid for my space using "MAX TIME" and I've never had a problem before.

It's a shame that a single bad experience like this can change the perception of the parking garage.

I'll come back and update this once I've received a response for my appeal. I'm confident that all will be well because, well, I did everything correctly.

This garage costs 50 cents an hour, Monday through Saturday, 9am - 6pm. I almost always park here for dinner, or brunch on Sunday, so I almost never pay. But I feel the price is very reasonable. I came for brunch on Saturday and the garage was almost completely full, so I think it makes sense that they charge money. Hopefully, with the revenue, they can build even more parking if it is needed. It's been so wonderful to see Downtown South San Francisco become more and more vibrant over the years. Having enough parking is very important for attracting customers to all the amazing restaurants and businesses in this neighborhood.

Arrived South San Francisco on Sunday at around noon, street parking is pretty full and you can see many cars are waiting, we decided to try the Miller parking garage, it is only 20%-30% full, lots is pretty big and only 5 min away from the restaurant. I will park there again next time
