On the Road Mechanic's

My Porsche Cayenne needed new brakes and an oil change. I was going to take it to one of the local German car service places in my area, but upon reading Yelp user reviews of most of them detailing some nightmare scenarios, I decided to find another solution. The Porsche dealer was not an option (really high quote on brakes and oil change). I found "On The Road Mechanics" on YELP. This was the only auto service place in my area that had over 35 Yelp reviewers giving 5-Stars for auto service. I just had to try it.

I spoke with Michael about the service needed. He arranged to purchase the parts at wholesale cost and he did not mark-up the parts to me. He only charged for labor. The next morning he was at my house @ 7:30am and performed the work on my car in my driveway. He was finished before 11am. The work was done to my satisfaction, he cleaned-up the area perfectly, and saved me the hassle of taking my car somewhere and waiting or having to get a ride back and forth. I have already recommended his services to a few friends.

Michael is the MAN!! My best automotive repair experience EVER! My car would not shift out of park, so I was contemplating having it towed into a shop. But then I thought about a mobile mechanic and tried On the Road Mechanic. Michael was VERY responsive, diagnosed the problem over the phone. I ordered a $7 part off of Amazon, and Michael came out and installed it in record time at a very reasonable cost.

In addition, Michael is a very nice guy, who loves his job which was very refreshing to see. I would highly recommend Michael, and plan to use him in the future for all my car repairs.

Michael was exceptional in his work and easy to work with. I had ordered R1 Concepts Front Rear Brakes and Rotors Kit for my VW Atlas R-Line model; I messaged Michael, confirmed, and the job was done a few days later.

Very reasonable pricing. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Will definitely call him in the near for my son's car brakes/rotors job.

Messaged Michael about my car being dead and AAA coming out and telling me I needed a new alternator. He texted me back within a few hours and was at my house 10 minutes later checking out my car.

It ended up that my battery was dead but my alternator was perfectly fine. Michael joked that he'd love to make money off me and sell me a new alternator but that's not the business he's in.

I highly recommend this for car services as its quick and convenient, which is a change from most mechanics i've taken my car into.

I am so fortunate to have found Michael and his company, he installed new front magneride shocks and new front brakes on my '09 CTS-V and not only was the cost very reasonable, the passion and attention to detail with which he performed the work was truly impressive! For example, he took the extra time to clean my brake calipers, but he didn't stop there, he also cleaned the caked-on brake dust from inside the wheel! My car rides like new, and the new brakes look and perform amazingly! If you're like me and normally are uncomfortable letting anyone touch your car, reach out to Michael, you will be glad you did!

Had issues with parts from Amazon, Mike was patient, great communication between Amazon mistakes and once I had the right parts finished the job great!

Michael was great. I contacted him last Thursday to get some H&R Super Sport springs installed on my BMW F30. Michael was quick to respond with quotes and was flexible with dates and times. His pricing was also so much better than actual physical auto shops. Regarding auto shops, most of them stated that it would take 5-6 hours to install my springs. Michael did it in 3 hours. Goes to show how much experience he has. The best part is he's mobile so if you ever need any fixing done to your vehicle then definitely reach out to him. The lowering springs made my car looks fantastic. Couldn't be any mode happier with them. I'll for sure reach out to him again when I want to do any more upgrades to my car.

Mike arrived right at the scheduled time. He was friendly and fast! Price was fair and he traveled out of his work area to service my truck

There's a reason why Michael has a 5 star rating. My battery died. Called him and he took the model number and talked through battery options. He was here within 30 minutes, replaced the battery in about 10 minutes and even checked the alternator to make sure it was charging properly.. no hassles. Great value.

Mike charged me $680 to fix my car battery. He was here for less than 3 hours and he also did not honor the Yelp 20% off discount. I don't have the expertise to judge the quality of this service (it might have been very good!), but I disagree with the other reviews that say the service was cheap.

Mike also asked me to back out of my driveway while I was sitting in a car that wouldn't start, and he chastised me because I kept the brakes on throughout this whole process. (Excuse me, I don't want to die!) My car ended up stuck in the middle of the road, and he pushed the car downhill without it crashing into anything. Perhaps this impressive physical strength justifies the high price tag, but I would have appreciated some sort of itemized receipt or explanation to that effect.

In fact, I received very little information (either written or verbal) about what he did to my battery, whether he replaced my battery, what he replaced it with, or how much the parts cost vs. the labor. All he told me was that he was going home to get "the part" (presumably a battery?) and would be back in 20 minutes.

Overall his service did not inspire confidence and I will not be going back.

EDIT (to reply to comment): Before the service, Mike told me that he accepted Venmo as a form of payment. I paid him $680 on Venmo. Venmo charges a 1.9% + 0.10 fee to the seller when you pay people who aren't your friends and family.

Mike later texted me to confront me about why he received $666.98 instead of $680 (see the attached screenshot). Then he said "Should of charged you tax like everyone else does," which confused me because sellers are legally required to ask for an amount of money that already includes all of the taxes.

Also, given Mike said I could pay him on Venmo, I wouldn't have expected him to have an issue with Venmo's rules and fees. It would be like if I had paid with a credit card, and the merchant was mad that the credit card company charged a transaction fee.

All of this seems very sketchy and after this, I will definitely not be returning to the business.

Michael was great. He answered my inquiry in a timely manner and was able to get me in to put new H&R springs on my car the very next day. He showed up to my office and did the work right outside in our parking lot. The whole process took about two and half hours and we chopped it up the whole time. You can really tell how passionate Michael is about not only cars but the work that he does. I could not stop smiling when he dropped the car and I saw the new height that it is sitting at. The best part is that I took the car in to do an alignment which you are supposed to do when putting lowering springs on, and the the alignment was still perfect. Michael even checked in with me a few days later to check how the car was riding, what a guy. Thanks Michael, I would recommend him to any family or friend and will definitely be contacting him again when I need more help with car projects.
