RB landscaping

We hired RB Landscaping to rennovate our tired and worn backyard. The project entailed replacing two decks, replacing a lawn with pavers, ,building raised planter boxes and installing new planter beds, plus irrigation. We provided the design plans. We considered one other estimate but went with RB as their estimate was competitive and much more detailed. The owner, Ramiro, came out two times during the estimate process to explain in detail what could be done.

The company is very thorough, answering calls and providing information. Inside the office, Nate provides detailed and timely quotes, makes suggestions and was adaptable to changes we made. Not surprisingly, we made several changes once the project had started and the team was always flexible and able to improvise and solve problems and potential problems as the work progressed.

I want to especially highlight the Team Lead Hugo who was on site each day to oversee the work that the team of 5-6 did each day. Hugo was easy to talk to and was always flexible and able to make adjustments at our request each day. I can't praise Hugo enough for his dedication, expertise and friendliness. They were always on time, worked very, very hard and cleaned up nicely each day. And this was all in 90 degree plus weather this summer!

Our project came out beautifully, right on time, and with no negative surprises. I researched RB Landscaping and others for reviews on Yelp before selecting them and now I am happy to add to all of the other excellent reviews they have received.

Honorable business. Transparency in their pricing and stood behind their work. They completed a beautiful cinder block planter box with a stone faced veneer and some blue stone walkway. The crew leader Gustavo communicated well and saw the work through from start to finish and took the time to make sure we were fully satisfied!

The RB guys were great! They arrived on time, completed the work quickly and were pleasant and helpful throughout.

After two years we noticed a small issue with our garden beds, and Nate was once again helpful and quick in communicating. The crew came back and fixed everything quickly. I am very grateful to Nate and team for the great work!

When I hired RB Landscaping to renovate my backyard, I didn't realize I would have to act as the general contractor, but that's sort of what happened. I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised, since they came in as the lowest of three landscaper bids (based on a plan I had procured from a separate landscape designer).

I do have to give RB kudos for their scheduling. Once I agreed to their bid, they gave me a start date (over a month away) and they actually showed up on that very day with a trailer and tools. Semi-amazing.

During the actual renovation. I was peppered with questions every morning, including some details clearly explained on the plan; which I pointed out. (Note: They didn't bring a copy; I actually had to print it out for them). In fact, there were so many questions and decisions that I ended up staying home from work for a few extra mornings. The plus side: I did know everything that was going on.

Talking to the RB Office was like speaking to a different company. Though always friendly, Nate routinely insisted the crew had everything under control, whether they did or not. Before the job started, I asked about a soil-depth issue in one spot that would prevent cement pours (as noted by another bidding landscape firm). He insisted that our yard had already been checked; it was no problem; and they would simply adjust the cement block sizes. During the job, however, the crew found that cement was impossible without cutting major tree roots. And so we changed the plan to stepping stones (a notion that had been dismissed by Nate in my earlier question). He also made a major overcharge error ($1300) in the final bill, which I caught, though I don't think it was intentional.

But It wasn't all bad. The landscaping crew were friendly, skilled, and very hard-working. They showed up and left each day at consistent times and always cleaned up. They were flexible with a few "surprises" that popped up. And they finished in exactly two weeks as promised (though they were very hurried at the end, failing to fix one error in the irrigation plan). Most importantly, however, our back yard looks great, and my wife now spends about 300% more time out there than she used to.

So if you're on a tighter budget and don't mind being extra-involved with all the yard decisions, RB may be the right pick for you. If you would prefer to be totally hands-off and have the yard just "happen" you may want to go somewhere a little higher-end (as long as you're willing to pay a bit more).

We hired RB to redo our huge backyard. Nate was great with communication and timely with his responses. We had a few changes and lots of questions, but Nate was always able to answer everything and was understanding throughout the whole process. The foreman that worked on our backyard was Jesus. He was good and helpful when it came to the construction of our project. When we asked them to come back to look at something, they did so without any issues.

The reason I can't give the 5 stars is because they weren't perfect. Communication during construction could have been better. The grading did not get built as originally discussed. Schedule related things were not always clear and I felt like we had to constantly ask questions to ensure things were on track. Our house was used to store material for other projects, and they actually almost forgot to take it with them at the end of the project until we reminded them. Luckily we have the space for it, but I wasn't particularly pleased with that.

Nevertheless RB did a great job on our backyard project and we will be recommending them to family and friends.

We had the pleasure working with RB landscaping! Our backyard needed work since we hadn't done anything with it for the past year. They provided an estimation of the work (very reasonable), helped us get in touch with their suppliers to pick out materials, and kept in touch with us throughout the project. I had a vision of what I wanted the backyard to look like and I was pleased with how RB landscaping executed it. They also finished the project sooner than I had expected as well. Highly recommend!

RB replaced our old concrete patio with pavers, leveled the yard, put in a retaining wall, new grass and plants. Though a small backyard, there were a lot of moving pieces and the backyard looks great.

The strong pros were: bid was competitive and thorough, great communication with Nate ('home office') and Ramiro (owner) leading up to and during the project, project came in within a few hundred dollars of the initial bid and finished on time, team of 5 (led by foreman Jorge) came every day on time, worked all day, left everything clean, respectful, asked lots of questions/wanted everything to be as we wanted.

I would work with RB again and recommend them, but caveat I found it very helpful to be home during the entirety of the project to ensure everything was going to plan and do quality control, as well as do some trouble shooting when things didn't go to plan. From a craftsmanship perspective I would not say this is the most perfect work, but they also did not bid as the most expensive.

Highly recommended.

A couple months ago Romero came by to take a look and discuss my needs. He was able to answer my questions and provide advice where needed.

After the quote came in, I was in contact with Nate through email and he directed me to several local places to choose trees and plants. Additionally he was very responsive and answered many emails.

When the work started, Jesus came and worked/oversaw everything in a matter of 2 days. He did everything to my wishes and even helped me out with some adhoc tasks.

I had an excellent experience with RB Landscaping. My landscape architect (Christel at Outside Collective) referred them for my installation on a steep backyard hillside. Their estimate was reasonable and they performed the work on schedule and in a very professional manner. New topsoil, extensive drip irrigation. Gustavo was my foreman. He was easy to work with and handled the crew well. I would definitely recommend them for any landscaping project.

We had our backyard pavers, side yard concrete and drain installed by RB landscaping and they did a commendable job.

I wanted to replace my old cracked concrete since the gradient had shifted over a period of time and with the excessive rainfall over the past two years had caused water to seep in to the crawlspace and cause excessive indoor humidity.

I requested quotes from over 10 different contractors and RB Lanscaping's quote was in the lower end of there spectrum. Nate was helpful in getting my initial questions answered and getting the work scheduled.

Alonso and his team did an awesome job and they were honest about the lack of need for a French drain which was in the initial quote and replaced it with a regular solid drain even if it meant less money for them and suggested a couple of meaningful additions which increased the overall aesthetic value.

I would highly recommend them for any of your landscaping needs!
