Red Hawk overall is a pretty sweet spot. I'll give you the quick low down on multiple areas of interest; food, gamble, poker, staff, environment,etc...

My review on Red Hawk is based on being a Platinum member. What does that mean? It means I've been here and done that, many times over, spread over several years.

      Food:

The Waterfall Buffet is located downstairs away from the smoking area of the casino. It's a really great selection throughout the day from American, to Mexican, to Asain food and it's only $10. The Seafood selection on Friday's evening dinner buffet is excellent. It's $25 per person, but it is worth it. Play some table games a couple hours prior to dinner and you will more than likely get comped to cover your food bill.

Check out the High Limit Lounge upstair. If you go to the bar, ask for a menu. The food there is good, try the Dragon Roll or the Pho... excellent

Two Rivers Cafe is overpriced for what you get. They have a pretty friendly staff but the food isn't much to brag about. The Fish and Chips is decent but I would not pay for any food here unless it is comped (Avoid the Pho in this cafe)

      Casino:

Poker is nice to play here if you are looking for a small game of 1;3 no-limit Texas Hold-Em. They have a great staff and knowledgeable dealers. There is a good mix of local regulars and new faces. They have weekly, monthly, and quarterly tournaments to satisfy small to big buy in tournament players. It's clean and managed very well.

Table games are fun just like any Casino, wins and losses are gonna happen, regardless of the casino but Red Hawk has some pretty cool floor Staff, they get to know you if they see you a couple times, so get a players card. The Waitresses come around often, but I have noticed 1 or 2 slow ones, oh well.. overall good service.

There is also a self service beverage station... genius =)

      Location & Environment:

Go down i50, they have their own Exit called "Red Hawk". Parking is easy on whichever day you go and security is always going around so its safe to walk around the parking lot.

It's pretty smokey on the main floor, but its nice that they have a downstairs non smoking, where the buffet and poker is located. I think they should incorporate more table games down stairs though.

The place is clean and has a floor level for children to chill for a couple hours (don't be the parent that neglects your kids for 3+ hours, be cool reasonable with your gambling times)

      *******
      Overall:

A fun place to check out... If not to gamble, take your friends and family to the waterfall buffet for good food or the high limit lounge for drinks.

If the name "Waterfall" in Waterfall Buffet is a euphemism for the diarrhea I got after eating there, then it is appropriately named. I got diarrhea my son threw up. This buffet used to be good. Consider yourself warned. I am contacting the health department to file a complaint.

Came here with my parents for my Dad's birthday. I'm writing mostly to review their buffet and the overall atmosphere of the place, since I don't gamble.

Parking: spacious, lots of options (no problem)

Smell: too much smoke, I felt like I was suffocating. I wish the had better ventilation

Customer Service: It was great! They gave my dad a mug for my birthday. When it came to me to get a card, there was an issue with my name, and the lady that helped me was patient and took care of it right away.

Waterfall Buffet: We waited for 2 hours (they had the option of us putting our names down, and they would text me by phone when they had a table for us). The place itself looked decent. The food was a 6/10 for me. Although their was crab, I felt that it was dry and wasn't fresh. Same goes for their meat. However, I did enjoy their egg soup, salad bar, and desserts. For the price I paid, I don't think it was worth it ($40 a person). The best part of the buffet was the customer service from our waiter. He was amazing. Very attentive, and kind.

Overall, my parents had a great time, so I'm happy. I would just rethink about going to the buffet. Next time, I'd probably just find a nice restaurant outside the buffet.

Almost every time I am here, it's for the restaurants. Red Hawk does have a decent playing area, nice amount of slots and multiple tables. They also have a smoke free area which is downstairs by the buffet and a few other resturants.

This time we dined at the waterfall buffet ended up being Street Fair night so had a variety of corn dogs, burgers, pizza and of course a lot more.

What happen to the Waterfall Buffet...? There Use to be such a great assortment of entree's...at $39.00..your better off paying a few more dollars and going to the Steak House. Also, it's very hard to reach for some of the food as it seems it is too far in the back for people to reach, unless you have a very long arm...they need more selections--it is nothing like it was before!...Also, you are also on a timer as to when you get there and go eat, you have 90 minutes...if your with a large group, that makes it difficult.....will be a long time before going to the Buffet again...Hunger Disappointment!

You win some, you lose more...

This isn't my first time here. We frequent this place mostly Thursday's and weekends. We come here mostly for the buffet (weekdays are cheaper) and to watch the cover bands on weekends, depending on who's on stage. The renovated bar/stage looks nicer now and so much bigger than before. I'm not a gambler but what do you do during intermission time while the band takes a break so occasionally, I'll drop a $20 bill on the slots and you know how it is... those machines will tease you with a little win and the greediness in people will want to give it all back hoping to win more until you lose it all. But I seem to have better chances here than Thunder Valley Casino. Still a loser, though :(

Red Hawk offers 5 restaurants including a steakhouse, Mexican and American restaurants and the Waterfall Buffet. The buffet serves pretty good food. One has to have their rewards card in order to get the discounted price. There are snack bars and bars/lounges as well. We've also tried dining at Pearl Asian Cuisine located just next to the bar. You decide http://www.yelp.com/biz/pearl-asian-cuisine-placerville?hrid=v3GiyuefLMmi_gD-KV8eGw&utm_source=oshare

Another feature I like about Red Hawk... free sodas and coffee! The beverage bars are located in sections of the casino upstairs and downstairs. They seem to be always near restrooms though, both upstairs and downstairs. Red Hawk offers childcare at Kids Quest and will care for a child from 6-weeks old to 12 yrs. I believe it is located on the 7th floor. Just don't forget to pick up your child there before you go home! LoL!

Just 45 minutes away from our home, this 24-hour casino is easy to find and located off of Hwy 50 in Placerville on Exit 40 heading to Tahoe . It is a nice stop for those traveling from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe (or vice versa) The parking garage is huge and lots of parking. I still dream of someday holding that big check showing off how much I've won and being photo'd and featured on their mailers :)

My Vegas away from Vegas! When Vegas is too far and Thunder Valley too crowded, you can be sure that RedHawk will be juuuust right. RedHawk is updated, classy, pretty and has just the right amount and kind of action. Even if they don't always give you that big payout you're looking for, the slots here will at least take you for an enjoyable ride. My money just seems to go further here. There is a good variety of games & slots here. The Waterfall Buffet is delicious and varied. It's never a long wait for anything here. The cocktails are decent and affordable here as well. Honestly, I've been choosing RedHawk over Thunder lately for looser gaming, less crowds, a satisfying buffet, better cocktails and a generally more relaxed atmosphere.

Let me preface this by saying that I'd give the buffet 4 stars, and my experience at the casino 3 stars with a 2 star rating for safety due to one bizarre encounter at the end of the evening (more on that at the end of the review.)

Friday - Sunday 3pm-9pm is prime rib/crab at the Waterfall Buffet. My wife and I headed up to eat at the buffet on a Friday, fairly early before it began to fill up. I believe it's $31.99. You get $2 off if you're a member of their rewards club. The membership place is upstairs on the casino floor and membership is free. Might as well get the discount even if you don't intend to gamble.

The buffet had plenty of choice, an Asian section with sushi and lots of Chinese style food, Italian/Mexican counter, American counter, roast counter, dessert, seafood, and a pho counter. I can't comment on everything as I stuck mostly to the roast and seafood counters. My wife didn't seem to enjoy the food from the Asian counter but liked the roast American counters.

The food was alright but everything was on the salty side. Portions at the roast counter were small but the person at the counter didn't mind if you asked for more. Prime rib was being sliced so thin it was more like roast beef. That contributed to the prime rib itself drying out on my plate before I even made it back to my table to eat. It was also way too salty for my liking.

There was plenty of Dungeness crab the entire time we were there. Nothing ever looked like it was going to run out. Dungeness is served hot but cold snow crab was also available. Again, I felt these items were on the salty side. It was a little difficult to taste the actual sweetness of the crab. On the bright side, there was endless hot butter to dip the crab into, lots of cocktail sauce too, helped to bring the saline levels down a little.

Non-alcoholic drinks are free and our servers were really helpful and courteous. There was hot tea when I asked for it, and an endless variety of cold drinks too. Lorraine and Sabrina were great and took excellent care of us during the meal.

I played $20 on some slots while waiting for the only roulette machine to open up. 20 minutes of waiting but no luck. The thing was full the entire time. Might be nice to have a second one set up. Seems to be a popular one to play. I'm not a big gambler so can't really offer anything more useful on the subject.

There are free drink stations on the casino floor. I haven't seen anything like in Vegas or Reno. Coffee, soft drinks, iced tea. Nice little bonus, especially if you don't drink alcohol.

The casino floor is pretty smokey. After 30 minutes or so my eyes really began to sting. Something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

At the end of the night, a random guy followed the two of us to the parking lot. When I noticed him acting suspiciously (not pressing buttons on elevator even though he got on first), I decided we should hang back in the elevator lobby under the security camera. Sure enough, he went out into the parking lot, noticed that we hadn't made a move out there, and then came back into the lobby and went back on the elevator to the casino. Weird. We let security know about him and left in a hurry. Call me paranoid but we were two women walking out into a deserted parking garage at night, you learn to keep your guard up.

This used to be my favorite casino however things are starting to change. I can't wait for new casinos to open in Sacramento and Amador County . Red Hawk seems to be getting tight on their machines and when I went to the Waterfall Buffet I was there for 5 minutes ate /tried what I had chosen then decided to try something different and when I came back they had taken their tip and already cleared my table . Whats the point of the little signs they provide saying you are still "enjoying" your meal if they ignore it? (Yes I had it on the table). Everything is super greasy or salty at the buffet and everybody's in a hurry to get you out..... rude! This used to be my favorite Buffet.
The one positive about Red Hawk Casino is that it is cleaner than the Jackson Rancheria but that's not saying much.

Best casino in the area, preffered over Thunder Valley. The Waterfall buffet is great and always on top of its game. The Seafood nights are $32 and very good for the large amounts of various crab and seafood items.

The security here seems to just blatantly stare at you when your playing or walking around, a little awkward.. and yes literally every time I go haha. But well worth it!

      Overall great place!

I like Red Hawk better than Thunder Valley...
I just don't like leaving my money there! :) The casino
was very crowded today... maybe everybody was trying
      to escape the weather!

Drove up today to have their great Sunday Brunch buffet...
      $18.99 ($14.99 with Player's Card)
Great food...the prime rib was excellent today!! The Eggs
      Benedict were very good, too...
If you eat here, ask for a table by the window.
They have a spectacular view of the hills and valleys beyond
the casino. It was a great place to sit and have coffee after
the meal and watch the storm pass by! Here is a link for
the Waterfall Buffet...they offer a different cuisine each day:
      http://www.redhawkcasino.com/restaurants/waterfall.asp

Red Hawk is not as large of a casino as Thunder Valley..
but I like their food better and most of the time, their machines
seem to pay a bit better...meaning your $$ might last a bit longer.
In the end, it seems like no matter where you play, you end up
      paying your "dues"!!

They have a great parking garage that is closer and more convenient
than the large exposed parking lots at Thunder Valley. Just a few
steps and you are in the elevator headed to the casino floor.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.

      Just for comparison...
      Slots: Red Hawk = 2,100 Thunder Valley = 3,000
Table games: Red Hawk = 75 Thunder Valley = 124
Thunder Valley has a smoke-free room with 150 slots.
Red Hawk has a 'lower level' that is smoke-free with blackjack,
mystery roulette, three card poker, and 240 slot machines.
