Wonderful family owned sewing machine shop! They do repairs and sales with a selection of tools and supplies.
Brad is the best! I called to ask about a possible repair, but decided to replace the machine instead. Because by some stroke of luck, there was a used Bernina machine available!!
Brad is knowledgeable on the mechanism and passionate on the craft. Even though I went to school for fashion design, I definitely learned a few things. This is my first ever Bernina machine. I've previously had Singer and Brother. He showed me how to use the Bernina and provided tips on how to care for the machine to keep it running as long as possible. I've had a machine repair done at a different store before and never met the repair technician. I was reminded how a smaller shop can really give you a more personal experience. Brad made my entire week by taking the time to answer any question I had and it's just so fun to connect with someone who loves the art of sewingHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - I M.San Francisco, CA056Aug 3, 2024
So happy to have my special Bernina 1000 sewing machine cleaned and serviced after a long long time. The owner of Serge A Lot gives good tips too

Yelp's right. 2 stars = "could've been better". Based on the positive reviews and a couple of not so great ones (the one 2 star review I read was pretty much spot on after my experience at this shop), I decided to just take my machine here. I'm just going to say that I only interacted with Brad, both in person and over the phone. Here's the breakdown of the stuff that really mattered:
1. Location/Parking: 5/5
2. Responsiveness/Timeliness of Repair: 5/5
3. Price: 4/5 (was a bit iffy as pricing seemed to change on several interactions)
4. Deliverable: 5/5 (Skills are there as he was able to service and fix the issue I had)
5. Customer Service: 1/5
Customer service interactions/skills/professionalism are definitely lacking. As another reviewer mentioned, he's very condescending, even if he were joking (which he wasn't), his mannerisms and body language is very off putting. Very arrogant and outright rude. I had to hold my tongue on several occasions when picking up my machine, which literally took less than 10 minutes (I paid a quarter for the meter outside and had still had 7 mins left when I left). He had the audacity to say my actions/asks were a waste of his time...seriously? First and last time coming here. Doesn't matter if the actual fix/service/deliverable was 5/5, if you can't be nice, you probably shouldn't be dealing with people.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jen L.San Francisco, CA109948Sep 30, 2023
In the past I've had great experiences with Sherri, the owner. She was always very helpful and friendly. Sadly, Brad, the co-owner, is either a jerk or was having a bad day. I brought my machine in for repair, and he was incredibly condescending. He pointed things out and would ask me what I thought was wrong with it--the bobbin holder, the tension, the thread I was using, and on and on with a "See? Look what you've done" shaming approach. I understand that being in retail is hard, but if he's going to be the face of the business, he should think twice about how he treats his customers.
If Sherri's at the helm, go in and get your serge on. If Brad's there, you were warned.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - M W.San Francisco, CA039Apr 30, 2024
Had my sewing machine tuned up by Brad. What a nice guy!! He was generous with his sewing machine tips and gave the best customer service.

When you imagine a true local, family-owned, small business, this is it. I walked in surprised to have found a sewing machine store in general. I ended up chatting with Brad for a cumulative several hours over the next couple of days as he walked me through the daunting process of buying my new machine. When I say that the customer service was stellar, I mean he stayed after hours twice to demonstrate different machines. Not only is Serge A Lot generous with their time and patience, they're also very informative and are sewing enthusiasts themselves.
I'm proud to be able to continually support their business as they also boast a surprising amount of merchandise aside from sewing machines and sergers: thread, quilting fabric, batting, presser feet, and notions.
If you're at all curious about sewing, Serge A Lot is a fantastic resource.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Linda K.San Leandro, CA09Nov 22, 2023
Thank you very much for repairing & tuning up my sewing machine. I was a bit embarrassed that I hadn't brought it anywhere for a checkup sooner, also that it most likely showed signs of mistreatment, but then again, I wasn't sure which shop to select with regard to quality and trust. I'm really glad I chose your place! You were so kind, informative and so generous sharing tips, tricks & your knowledge. Now my machine is sewing like when it was brand new. So smooth!

Brad is fabulous. I was having issues with my old Kenmore standup vacuum and not only did he fix and clean it, but he provided me with a thorough explanation of what had been happening. I really appreciated that. Our discussion morphed into different brands and styles and was so persuasive (without trying) that I am considering a Miele for some time in the future. He's honest, straightforward, and did a great job on my vacuum.
