We found this restaurant as we was driving down Main Street.

As soon as we saw the sign of fresh seafood, we knew that it was a stop that we had to make and they had all day happy hour!!! I can't ever resist 'happy hour"! So we ordered everything off the happy hour menu. We had the Baja tacos, the halibut fritters, and the crabby bucket.

Everything was so good. The service was kind and thoughtful. The ambience was a typical bar so it was nice check it out.

If you're looking for a nice patio on a warm summer day in the Main Street area, Smitty's Oyster House is the place to be.

The patio is a perfect spot to enjoy your meal, offering a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. I started with the happy hour oysters, which were incredibly fresh and a great way to kick off the evening. The crispy pan-fried oysters were small and slightly burnt. At almost $4 each with a minimum order of 3, I would pass on the pan fried oysters.

The current seasonal feature is the spot prawn featured pasta. The prawns were succulent, and the pasta was cooked in a nice spicy sauce. At $25, it was a bit small in quantity but came with 3 spot prawns. The mussels in butter garlic wine broth was a treat, boasting a savory and aromatic broth that complemented the mussels beautifully. However, the fries were a bit of a miss.

Overall, Smitty's Oyster House is a cute place for your seafood fix. It has a cute casual vibe and a nice outdoor patio to soak up the sun and people watch.

Been wanting to try this for awhile and hadn't gotten around to it. Also read some bad reviews on Reddit so I was feeling a tad hesitant.

Over the summer on a bright sunny afternoon, we decided to give it a go. We wish we hadn't.

The place was about 85% empty. We show up and the hostess asks if we have a reservation. We say no. She says that she has to ask if there's room for us. Sorry what? We get seated at a very small table which is kinda weird. Our server is apathetic. She tells us that the oysters are going to take awhile so we should avoid them if we were expecting them to be quick.

We ordered drinks and food. Nothing we ate made us want to come back.

      - mussels were tiny. They were literally less than an inch each. It was also a small bowl of them. The fries were sad and limp.

      - we got a fish entree and it was extremely overcooked and dry and fishy. Everything was overly salty.

      - the oysters did take forever. Not because he was busy shucking but because he was busy drinking with someone at the bar chatting with him. They also took a few shots. Oddly enough, we watched them shuck and give the order to people who had arrived after us and ordered after us. The oysters were very dry and not plump. Not very fresh tasting. For a place named "Oyster House", it's pretty sad to have really sad lookin' oysters.

With all the seafood places shucking up good oysters and tasty seafood in Vancouver, this isn't one of them.

My friend recommended this place. He had been here a few times and liked it. We came here on a Tuesday and it was Happy Hour all day. We ordered almost everything off the Happy Hour menu. We had the shrimp cocktail, the halibut fritters, the chili lime prawns, pan fried oysters, seafood tostada trio and baja tacos. All the food was pretty good, the pan fried oysters were ok. The service? Well there really wasn't any. The place wasn't super busy but they only had one server on the entire time we were there. We got there around 6 and left around 8. They had another guy shucking oysters behind the bar. It took forever to get another drink and we also wanted to order more food. Not impressed. The place is a decent size and they have a small patio out in front of Main St. There is street parking. Will I be back? Probably not............

Pub like vibe, but clean and bright inside
Staff were friendly and the place was quiet until 1:30pm on a weekend

Love their concept of All Day Sunday happy hour

The oysters were fanny bay for $2.50 each and came with a variety of sauces

The Happy Hour Seafood tostadas $16 were small, so should order more dishes to share

The Happy Hour mussels with fries were sent back because the mussels were overdone, twice!
      They were chewy and inedible

I can only recommend the oysters and the happy hour drinks

We came here for happy hour. Atmosphere is pub like, really casual and chill. Oysters were fresh and tasty, not as good as Rodney's but still good.
The mussels were tiny (size of clams) but delicious and flavorful.
The fries were excellent. I think it's hard to find good crispy fries in Vancouver.
The halibut fritters had this weird thick really sour gravy on it. It did not taste good. It tasted like the sweet and sour sauce from food court Chinese food.
The pan fried oysters were delicious. Batter was quite thick but just look at it as tasty fried food.
I would come back for the mussels and fries.

Happy hour oysters were fresh and tasty
Halinut fritters had weird sour gravy on it but rest was good

Never say no to oysters and steak. Why would you give up such a great combination? Fresh-caught oysters and grilled steak on a mashed potato plate? You're missing out.
Smitty's offers a variety of oysters near the coast and delivers them with different tangy additions of sauces. My favorite is the vinegar; there's something about the tartness of the vinegar that brightens the freshness and the salty brine of the oysters. I recommend getting a variety of oysters and trying each one to find your favorite.
The steak is cooked perfectly medium-rare (to my liking) and lays on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are soft, buttery, and enhance the charred texture of the steak. They both pair well together, creating a flavor explosion.
Our waitress is extremely sweet and attentive to our large party's needs. I would love to come back here again if given the opportunity to.

I just had the oysters while my friend ordered some other dishes. The oysters were fanny Bay and they were just ok that day.

3 stars for the food I got this time specifically + 1 bonus star for the excellent service which added to the overall experience!

For my first dine out van fest this year, I went to @smittysoysterhouse.on.main. Prior to my visit, I've heard some mixed reviews about this place. Contrary to what has been shared, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my entire experience! I absolutely loved their oysters, which were only $2.5 each during happy hour! They have happy hour everyday from 3-5 or all day happy hour on Tuesdays!

They had a plethora of items for their Dine Out menu. You'd choose an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert in which they'd nicely display on a big wooden board.

Appetizer: Their signature chowda was to die for! Perfect creaminess and thickness. The flavour was extremely rich & it was ABSOLUTELY my favourite part of the meal.

Entrees: I loved how they included so much fries with their mussels & sliders! These were broiled oyster sliders and the flavour of the bread was sooo rich that it overpowered the oysters. I didn't mind though, as it was a solid slider. While the portion of the fries included was much appreciated, I wish it wasn't placed inside the bowl with the mussels. This made the fries all soggy towards the end!!

If you want more food, I wouldn't suggest ordering the scallops and crab cakes. The portions were quite tiny and only included two of each-- although I saw someone else posting 4 scallops on their dine out menu. I loved the scallops! The flavour was there, although a bit on the blander side. Their purée was interesting to say the least, but it paired quite well with the scallops. Throughout this entire meal, I enjoyed the crab cakes the least as it felt like a mouthful of onion instead.

Desserts: the crème brûlée was delicious!! The chocolate mousse was solid, but it might be too rich for some people. It tastes pepperminty and I'm personally a big fan :)

What added to our experience was our waitress, who I believe was named Audrey. JUST SO AMAZING !! She was attentive and sweet. We also got seated right away and I loved how they had a huge mirror along their back wall, I think it made the restaurant look more spacious. There's also outdoor seating available!

Overall, our experience was pretty great! Wasn't the hugest fan of their dine out menu but I have a feeling their other food would be solid. I also wish they had cocktails on their happy hour menu-- personally not a wine gal. Still, I can't wait to come back for more happy hour oysters!!

Dine out menu:Mussels, po boy sliders, seared scallops, crab cakes, signature chowda Off regular menu: dozen of oysters (HH)
