SOMA Self Storage

Pros:
- They usually have deals and promotions, so make sure you check in before committing to something!
- Great location downtown.
- They have a parking lot inside the building that is access code protected.
- They make it easy if you want to get a diff sized storage by letting you know immediately what is available and if nothing is, putting you on a waitlist. They also are nice enough to keep us updated through the waiting list process to see if we are still interested.
- Fair prices for the city.
- Nicole! She has been amazing. Always knowledgeable and friendly. We love working with her.
- Super secure.
- Clean.
- They have trucks you can rent.

Cons:
- The hours. I wish it were 24 hours, but I understand their hours are standard across other storage companies.

SOMA was great to deal with. The facility feels very secure: access code to enter and exit, banks of surveillance cameras being actively monitored, etc. We moved our stuff in during May and moved out in August. The staff were always very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly--not a place where they are faking it or just bored and only care about a paycheck. They are problem solvers. Also it was nice to not have any hidden charges for checking out mid month, or to find other fees tacked on. Special shout out to Monica, Aly, and the young man whose name escapes me. Thank you!!!

This is hands down the best storage facility I've ever used.

It's immaculately clean, the elevators are huge, the staff is professional and friendly, the password-protected gates prevent trespassers, there's parking inside. It's not climate controlled but it has good air flow and I think I'm not going to have a problem with mildew like I have at other facilities. The spaces are all framed with corrugated metal and have chicken wire across the top.

My one kvetch is, spaces are only 8' high and *could* be higher but the chicken wire prevents storing above 8'.

I'm not there often but when I am, I never see anyone else on my floor, though I have occasionally run into other renters and chatted with them in the parking area. They all seem super respectable. I only mention this because I've rented at some places where the tenants seemed quite sketchy.

Like any commercial rental, it is not rent-controlled. When I moved in they said they would not raise my rent for 8 months and then it would go up no more than 7%. I hope they stick to that! Even 7% every 8 months will add up quickly. In two years I will be paying 22% more than I am now.

That's better than Public Storage which is infamous for low-balling people with low move-in rents and then raising the rents a huge amount within a few months.

SOMA self storage is the best self storage in town. The staff is friendly, helpful, and provides quality customer service. Before relocating from San Diego, my husband and I decided to call SOMA self storage for more information. The service we got over the phone was exceptional. The woman over the phone was knowledgeable and friendly. She answered all our questions and was able to provide us with more storage information. When we got to San Francisco, Mark helped us off load the 20" ft U-Haul into our storage unit. He is super helpful, hardworking, and one of the most friendliest people we've met. Moving can be incredibly stressful, but their friendliness and helpfulness made the transition much smoother. Thank you all for the warm welcome and the excellent customer service is greatly appreciated. Thank you for making this experience a positive one!

They had great deals, since moving to this area from southern california, I've been having some things stored here. I feel they provided a great value ands ervice. Everyone here was super nice. They have a great location downtown. Parking wasn't a problem anytime I would come in.

At first, I thought I was going to have a hard time with getting into my unit because I had lost my keys. But the staff helped me through the procedure in cutting my lock. Alex was really friendly and ensured that I would be able to get into my unit on time. He even provided a courtesy lock for me to replace my old lock. Not to mention that this storage facility is way safer than most others that I have seen in the area. Highly recommend this location for storage!

With costs being so high in SF, renting storage space in the city is probably the last thing I'd spend money on. However, I have boxes of medical supplies shipped to me every month that I don't have room for in my studio apartment, but need easy access to.

I was initially suspicious of SOMA Self-Storage's nearly 5-star rating amongst the 2 or 3-star ratings of its peers. But from the initial conversation to having rented my space for ~4 months now, I can say the 5-star rating is TOTALLY deserved.

Everyone I've dealt with have been great, but a shout-out to MARK in particular for going well above and beyond. Examples:
-- I use their concierge service, so that SOMA will accept deliveries and place them in my unit. He noticed that most of my medical supplies are color-coded and he stacked them accordingly.
-- Whenever he sees me loading up my car with boxes, which are pretty heavy, he comes over to help me.
These sound like small things, but they make a huge difference to me! And it's such a contrast to pretty much any other place nowadays where people can barely manage doing the minimum (and they want a tip for it).

You don't have 24-hour access and the monthly rate isn't cheap, but what sold me, in addition to the service, was:
1. they do run specials (mine was during the Labor Day promo)

2. they DON'T nickel and dime you.
Examples:
-- I forgot to bring my own lock and they loaned me one, so that I could get the promo and return a few days later with my own lock. Most places would require you to buy one of theirs if you didn't have one at the time of signing. -- they require insurance, but rather than force me to buy their insurance, they mentioned that my rental home insurance may already cover the storage space if I live nearby. I checked and they were right! Saves me a bit of $ every month.

3. the "fine print" is reasonable (yes, I actually read the entire agreement)

4. The facility is super clean, I feel safe, here, and there's professional pest control (there's a small cylinder (dumbbell?) shaped device in each unit)

5. Free use of a van (but just for move-in)

6. 13-foot (?) vehicle clearance into the building and free/convenient parking for unloading/loading with carts, of course

7. No trash cans, but free cardboard box recycling area

8. They can accept deliveries and deposit them in your unit (for an extra fee)

This week was my first time ever using SOMA's services; I am so grateful to all the staff, but especially Marks'. I recently had surgery and was afraid of how I was going to be able to lift all by boxes, but upon letting Mark know, he took care of everything, from unloading my car to loading the unit. It made a world of a different in my healing process and in my experience at SOMA. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a storage unit! Thank you, Mark!

I have rented from SOMA Storage for 9 years! I run a holiday program for a non-profit in San Francisco! This December we served over 500 homeless and low income families. We couldn't do this with the help and support of SOMA Storage.

The units are clean and well maintained. There is a covered garage, units are secured with an access code and it is in a great location downtown. They also have a van and/or truck you can rent, which is incredibly helpful when we are clearing out our rented units.

I can't say enough about the staff! Nanette, Nicole, Mark, Richard and Alex! They are incredible. So helpful during our December craziness. I am so grateful to have them as partners while we are serving the community.


I highly recommend SOMA Storage!

Mark and his team run a clean ship. The units are dry and clean. The building is solid for an even climate. They are helpful and professional. It is clear a lot of people use this place because it is reputable.
