We found Paul by way of yelp, and were initially impressed by his prompt response and line item estimate for our backyard renovation. Started from mounds of sand, weeds and remnant deck, Paul and his crew transformed our backyard into a multi-leveled playground, retreat and focal point of our home. We could not be happier with the result. He designed layout, then worked through some revisions with us to achieve final plan. Everything from electrical, gas lines, water drainage and usage was carefully considered. We now have a backyard with lighting in the steps, all redwood trim, up lights, down lights in the garden, a large main patio - all subtle but amazing.

We found him and his team responsive, detail oriented, reliable and PUNCTUAL. I think that in addition to his natural talent and vision for outdoor spaces, he has a real dedication in making beautiful things and his work ethic only supports that. Highly recommended without reservation.

We had a fairly outdated and boring front yard at our house for as long as I can remember. One of our neighbors had their front yard redone last year and we were very impressed with the work. We got the referral to Paul Tamate and we are so happy that we did!!

Paul was really a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was quick with his initial design and estimates. He really listened to our idea and vision and came up with something we would love. Something that we were extremely impressed with was the timeline and completion time! Over the years, we have gone through a lot of renovations and modifications to the house, and as most of you know, those contractors always take their sweet time. Paul was extremely efficient and kept to this timeline, and he was always readily available via email and phone.

The materials and workmanship were of the highest quality. Paul chose some amazing pieces and plants and put it all together to make it look so incredible. The night lighting he added was phenomenal and our garden looks so cool at night! The work he did with the stone entryway was really beautiful as well (he cut every piece to fit but it looks so natural).

When we first envisioned our new yard, we incorporated a new fence around the perimeter of the yard. The fence was a custom made metal of some sort (i want to say iron but I am not sure) that we thought would look beautiful. The fence was built, piece-by-piece, welded together in intricate design. When the fence was complete, Paul was a little concerned and really wanted our opinion on it. I thought it was pretty but not really what we envisioned... and Paul agreed. What was great is that he got working on a new design immediately and BAM! like that... the old fence was out, and the new one was in. It was like magic... and the new fence was much better. He even used feng shui in designing our new fence and garden.

So just like that, we have a new beautiful, peaceful Japanese garden. All of us love it, especially Pawshi, who now has her own "personal" lawn.

We would highly recommend Paul for any landscaping job, even if you just want to get an idea from him. He is knowledgable, artistic, professional, and an overall great guy!!

Great landscaping experience! We explained to Paul what we'd like using a not-to-scale drawing. Paul made great suggestions. We went with almost all of of his improvements to our ideas and all his material recommendations. The workmanship is high quality/top-notch...better than past experience with other companies.

Paul and his team installed pavers our small patio area. They were efficient, tidy, and reasonably priced. Paul's communication is crisp, honest, and direct. Two months later, we're still thrilled with the look and the quality of the work. There's no doubt that we'll return to Paul with more work in the future.

We hired Paul Tamate about a year ago to redo our small backyard in San Francisco. We basically had a pile of dirt and leaves. Paul and his team installed a beautiful stone patio bordered by a rock garden and trees. We love it!

This review is five years in the making. Paul built us a very large retaining wall, fence, and a lot of reconstruction in our backyard. We have a very steep hill, and a lot of erosion problems. In five years, Paul's work looks unmoved, and unaged. We are amazed by how well it's held up and how great it all still looks. Even his carpentry work on the fence and stairs and landing are all impeccable. We are beyond happy with the work that was done over five years ago.

Paul Tamate did a great job transforming our backyard of old concrete squares, overgrown plants, a multitude of potted plants and a "Big" palm tree into a beautiful calming space.
We wanted an Asian/Western theme. He created a solid patio area of flagstone for barbequing and entertaining. The Asian features were created with a Yukimi lantern, Japanese maple, heavenly bamboo and a pond with stream. The pond was designed to give us the feel of the country/rustic and peacefulness created by the sound of running water.
He worked patiently with us through a few of our changes from the original design. It was amazing to us that he finished the job in two weeks. He and his crew were very efficient and worked hard to keep us on budget.
We are glad we chose Paul Tamate Landscaping and recommend him highly.

Paul was dream to work with - he just finished a permitted deck for us which itself is a miracle in San Francisco. He got us an engineer who got the permits.

Paul is personable, his team has a dynamite work ethic, he was affordable and got things done on time. The few change orders that came along were handled well.

Paul is professional first and foremost. He will deliver on all his promises and will go above and beyond. We interviewed a few people for our parking extension project (tree removal, pavement, moving a fence line, some electrical work) and many were not reliable, could not do everything that was needed etc. Luckily, Paul worked on our neighbors garden so we received a referral.

Paul has a vast experience working in the city and with complexities, it came very handy. We ran into an issue with a neighbor that required attention of multiple city departments (police among other) and Paul handled it very well. In the middle of the project, we had to change a course, Paul helped us to find a solution that satisfied everyone.

Paul works along his two team members who been with the company over a decade. Also, there is somewhat new but incredibly charming member that comes along- Paul's dog.

Paul Tamate is a great guy, very professional, and knowledgeable. My backyard was a mess and in about a week, for a fair price, he and his team were able to get it straightened out.
Now, the back of my house is not an eyesore along Alemaney, AND it will not erode away (most of the 'yard' is a steep slope), AND he shored up my previously rickety deck, AND he picked out some amazing trees for the front of my house.
Paul is a great guy, at least have him come by for a quote. You will not regret it.
