Best breakfast / lunch spot in the area! Good food, service and ambience. Only a couple of blocks to the sky train as well. Highly recommend if you're looking for a cafe with good western food in Vancouver

Our review:
We were looking for restaurant in Richmond to have dinner with our friends. Goggle it & found this restaurant, read very glowing reviews & decided to try it.
Located in a quiet side street ( quite near Richmond Costco). Ample free street parking, on the outside, the entrance was very unassuming, you might missed it if it weren't for people walking in & out. Inside of the restaurant was so delightful, cozy & lots of vintage & retro items around. The inside of the restaurant was nice & clean. Staff were friendly, quite a good selection on the menu.
We ordered the lobster bisque ( it was abit salty, quite preferred the one in Pink Peppercorn). The presentation was nice, they bring the bowl with the lobster meat & lumpfish tie & pour the biscuits into the bowl in front of you.
For mains, my hubby had the Beef Pappardelle, the short ribs was braised for 7 hours, it was good & tasty. I ordered the Signature Risotto, with scallops & prawns, risotto was nicely done & cooked just right, seafood was done well without being overcooked. My friend ordered the appetizers, she enjoyed the salad, prawns & scallops with the crab cakes.
All the food served was very fresh & flavourful, very glad I found this restaurant!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 208492643Jul 27, 2024Updated review
Still good as ever. Fill house at 2pm. 30m wait but was called in 20.
Fried ch8cken with abreast and waffle with syrup and whipped cream hit the spot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 17, 2023Previous reviewOutstanding food service and atmosphere. Also very consistent each time I visited.
Waffle and French toast are great but the eggs benny and fried chicken are really tasty.
The occasionally musical entertainment is classy making the evening a true joy.Feb 22, 2023Previous reviewIf my friends didn't invite me, I never would've known There's a place here. Perhaps a bit too well hidden. I parked on the street and it took me a couple of seconds to realize the black structure was Story Cafe.
With the black blinds drawn along the patio tables, one only sees the restaurant sign. It's too bad the ambience and positive atmosphere was covered. That's said, perhaps it was a colder day.
I studied the menu ahead and had my eyes on the chicken and waffle. Somehow, I went for the chicken and French toast and regreted it. The French toast was actually quite good but towards the second half when it was not as warm and harder on the crust, the joy was gone. I tried my friends waffle and immediately knew that's what I'll order next time.
My friends' eggs Benny and tiramisu were really good too. 4 of us ordered the hot chocolate with me opting for oat milk which costs an extra $1.25. Unfortunately, it took well over half an hour and two reminders before they arrived, at which point we were all more than half way through our meal. And this is why it's 4 stars.
I do hope next time when I return it will be a 5 star experience. - Robert N.Mars, PA010Jul 26, 2024
The Story Cafe has a name that is ambiguous. Is it a daytime cafe? Is it a diner? It's neither.
What it is a an unpretentious, unfussy, well crafted, creative restaurant. Think Bistro, but not French. Think Osteria, but not Italian.
We had a great dinner: Hot seafood platter, entree salad, fried chicken sandwich, lobster bisque, individual beef Wellington.
A great neighborhood restaurant worth the drive from other neighborhoods.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2024
Super cute spot close to the airport. It's not very big, but is very popular. I was there on a Monday morning and there was a wait to get in the entire time. I had soup and a scone so not much to rate there. Both were just ok. The service was friendly and even though there was a line I was seated pretty quickly.

Came to The Story Cafe for date night. The ambiance was very lively with the live music. The artist played old classics which added to the atmosphere.
The food was incredible. We started off with the cheese board which pairs exceptionally well with the Malbec wine. Tasted even better knowing the bottle was 50% off that day!
Then onto the main courses. If you like pasta, the carbonara is to die for. It was savory, garlicky, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. If you're in the mood for some pesto, order the risotto. The flavors were addicting and will leave you for wanting more. Trust me you wouldn't want to share.
Ending the lovely dinner we ordered the Killing Me Softly for dessert which was a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. The dessert was very decadent and overall it was an amazing finisher.
The staff were very friendly. When they came out to pepper the pasta, I couldn't help but laugh at the ginormous pepper grinder they used. I will never forget this experience.
If you're staying at the hotel nearby like we did, or if you're just looking for something yummy with fantastic vibes, come to The Story Cafe in Richmond.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 30, 2024
Nice date environment. They have a covered patio, nice cocktail options, elevated food but still approachable. Located near the River Rock Casino side of Richmond and street parking for those driving.
Really wanted to like this place more but their food are a hit or a miss. Wished we had more hits in our dinner there.
Our favorites was the Lobster Gnocchi and the Empress Lemonade (alcoholic). Great flavors in both and would get them again.
The misses were the Scallops which was not that flavorful and when I did taste the spices, it was too spicy (jalapeno really hits the tastebuds) and didn't complement the scallops. We also had the Four Cheese Ravioli and added $10 for lobster meat but the meat was very fine and shredded into the sauce so you can't even taste or tell that lobster was in it. So don't do the add on. The Cheese Ravioli itself was good, and came in a red sauce.
We also had the Beef Carpaccio and the Red Sangria. Both were standard.
Service was ok. We were celebrating a birthday and noticed the table next to us also were, and the server gave them a comped dessert. We did not receive the same treatment though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 23, 2024
Story Cafe - A place that I have been sleeping on all this time.... I'm not sure why I never checked it out despite so many people telling me what a great place this is for non-Asian alternatives in Richmond. I decided to do a brunch here with my gfs on a Sunday afternoon. We waited approximately 20-30 minutes and were sat promptly on the patio. The restaurant has a rustic and storybook vibe (hence story cafe haha) ample seating.
Appetizers:
The burrata and beet purée salad was very standard and self explanatory but still delicious. I felt like the purée was a way to get more beet flavour across the entire salad compared to some salads that just have diced beets in them. Truffle fries were yummy, I love how thick they were cut.
Mains:
The pasta was great - the pesto flavour was perfect and not too salty with perfectly cooked al dente noodles and a good portion of prawns and chicken. The scallop and fried chicken gnocchi was something new that I hadn't tried before at any other restaurant and it was very delicious! Cheesy gnocchi - who can say no? I think I was impressed with the fact that everything was not too salty or overwhelming for my taste buds.
Service was prompt and friendly and food arrived really fast which is always a plus. This is a great spot for non-Asian brunch cravings especially in Richmond - a place that is overly saturated with Asian food. I definitely want to come back and try their dinner menu!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clarissa L.Honolulu, HIMay 10, 2024
