      OHMAGAHH SUGAR HEAVEN.

I came in a little before 1 pm on a Monday, and the cafe was a bit on the empty side. By the end of the hour, all the tables were full and other people were eyeing to see if I was going to leave soon.

Like a true fatty, I got two of their cakes-- le russe and passionfruit. Each of their cakes were a decent size for one piece. I got each thinking that le russe would be the cake that I'd enjoy on a chilly November day and the passionfruit would be a well-meant but under-fulfilling cake that didn't truly combine the taste of passionfruit into a bread form. Nope. I was wrong. I favored the passionfruit cake-- the cake itself was light and fluffy, and the gelee and mousse was what made the passionfruit flavor hit you distinctly and deliciously. I'm not a huge fan of macarons because I think they're over hyped, but the delicate and small half macarons on the side were a cute and nice balance against the passionfruit hit.

Le russe was a little too sugary for me. I know, I know. What do I expect at a patisserie, idiot. I'm in favor of sweet snacks that are more subtle or a bit muted compared to the diabetes-inducing sugar bombs in the US, which I'm used to. With that said, I expected the cake to be a bit more varied in flavor with the amount of sugar that was in the buttercream. This could also be because I had the passionfruit cake side-by-side for comparison, but I think this would be more suited for my fellow American who's used to super sweet things in the country south of the border.

I tried their London fog tea latte-- excellent. This is a fantastic drink to balance the sugary desserts you will be swallowing at this establishment. As a tea latte, it has a hint of sweetness, without the bitter taste of a regular tea. I'm not a big tea drinker since I'm not adult enough to tolerate the bitterness quite yet, so this was a perfect match for me.

The new raspberry eclair was sooooo good! Loved the filling which is not too overly sweet. If I could get this everyday, I would!

The pistachio hot chocolate was nice as well! I got it because I've never seen this on the menu at any other place and it did not disappoint!

Thierry is a very convenient place for business meeting or casual catch up with friends in downtown. Service was honestly lacklustre considering the premium vibe they are trying to convey. If anything, cleanliness could be better because the staffs didn't really clean up the tables between guess. Pastry wise, I've tried their Almond Croissant ($7.45) and Hazelnut Pithivier ($7.45).

Interestingly, my experience was very different each visit. The almond croissant was very, very hefty with generous almond filling. It was very sweet but still enjoyable for me (I have a very strong sweet tooth though). The second time I went there, I got the pithivier and another almond croissant. Both pastries were super dry (even a little bit stale) and the paste was very bland. Would be good if they can be more consistent as this makes me hesitate to come back. Coffee was just alright to balance the pastry, go with their hot chocolate if you want a better beverage option.

I visited Thierry twice during my Vancouver vacation, both times before 9 AM so it wasn't too busy. I've tried a latte, croissant, ham & cheese croissant, and some of their chocolates.

Everything from their pastries to chocolates to desserts look absolutely beautiful and delicious. They have indoor and covered outdoor seating, and service is quick and friendly.

I stopped by here twice on my four day trip, and both times it was super busy. So come by before the lunch and dinner rushes, or be prepared to take your treats to go.

My first visit was shortly after 7:00pm on a Thursday afternoon, and while it was busy the service was really efficient!

I got the chocolate marquise, a lychee macaron and an oolong macaron. The slice of cake featured a tasty hazelnut dacquoise, hardened salted caramel, crisp and stable praline, and a rich chocolate mousse. It sounds like it'd be overkill on the sweets but it was super tasty, and the perfect portion for two to share!

The lychee macaron had a strong lychee flavor and unexpectedly had bits of fruit in the center. The oolong macaron also had very strong tea notes. It was sweet but still earthy. I really enjoyed the oolong flavor!

I also stopped by on Saturday around 12:45pm for a quick lunch. There weren't any open tables but I did notice that there plenty of people who had been sitting there for a while (without any food or drink at their table).

Because I didn't see any open tables, I got my order to go. I opted for a raspberry lemonade (very refreshing and the perfect combination of sweet and tart), a lemon tart (not too sweet, with a very thick and rich crust), and a quiche Lorraine (don't recommend, it was fluffy and warmed but I just couldn't finish it because I didn't love the flavor or the texture).

Given the sheer amount of cafes, bakeries, and patisseries, it's hard to say that Thierry's is the best of the bunch, but it is popular for a reason. If you're looking near the area and on the hunt for a rich (and somewhat expensive) treat, I recommend giving it a try.

Got their pastries in the morning! My favorite is their ham and cheese pastry! Pain au chocolate, raspberry pastry were also delicious. Friendly staff, nice interior. They also have some patio seating.

We had a bit of time to kill so we stopped in to this lovely cafe. Not only is the cafe itself beautiful but everything they sell is gorgeous too. We finally landed on a pistachio and salted caramel macaron and a chocolate hazelnut cake that had all the flavors of a Ferrero Roche. It was so delicious.

Delightful pastries and lattes and hot chocolate! After dinner and a Robson street stroll, we longed for a dessert. Happily, we ended up at Thierry. We really enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was slow, but they were training someone to make the drinks.

Tasty drinks and desserts here. Quality is usually there when the pastry is fresh. Took one star off because I feel the tables and chairs can use an upgrade as they don't seem to fit the nice ambiance of the cafe.
It's a busy place and there is often a lineup, and tables are usually full so you have to be lucky to get one.
