We bought tickets for the 8:40 pm entrance in June. This turned out to be a perfect time! We were able to see the sun setting over the water. Our pictures were beautiful. The weather was fantastic. There are plenty of areas for viewing the city 360 degrees around. We felt safe and not overly crowded.

We did the beam experience. It was fun and simple. It includes two complimentary digital photos. It was windy when we went up which added to the fear factor.

The only downside to our evening was the long elevator line to get back to ground level. But even that wasn't too bad.

Overall I'd rate this experience 3.5 stars.

This is definitely an overpriced tourist trap and I'd say it's one of those places you go once and don't return. The views are beautiful on a clear and sunny day but it's not worth $30-60 per person. There are two decks to view the skyline and take photos which doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes. For an additional cost, you can ride the beam and take some professional photos. We visited on a Thursday and it was less crowded but most likely there will be people in your photos. Note, if you purchase tickets there, they cannot guarantee the current time and your reservations may be for later in the day.

I wish they would offer a discounted price for those who just want to see the views briefly and come down.

Top of the Rock Observation Deck -The Best View In New York-

Experience a breathtaking and amazing unobstructed 360° view of every corner of Manhattan! One of the best NYC views especially during Sunset!

For most people, a visit to New York is not complete without a trip up one of the Cities BIG skyscrapers. The Empire State Building is where most flock to realize this part of their trip. However from the top of this Iconic Tower, one big feature to Manhatten is Missing! The Building itself! Those reportedly "in the know" advise Visitors to Avoid the Empire State Building deck and instead head up the Rockerfeller Center to the Top Of The Rock.

Sunset is always the best time to go and here you get stunning views South of the Empire State, along with better views of Central Park, Midtown, and the City in general.

I have been to the Empire State Building observation deck before and wanted to see New York City from a different perspective. The nice thing about the view from Top of the Rock is that your photos of the New York City skyline will have the Empire State Building in it. Top of the Rock is on the 70th story of the Rockefeller Center skyscraper (called 30 Rockefeller Plaza) in Midtown Manhattan. That is about 850 feet above street level. NBC Studios headquarters is located here at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and records both "The Tonight Show" and "Saturday Night Live" on the 6th and 8th floor. Unlike the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock has a safety glass around the perimeter of the deck and has more space to walk around.

The view is gorgeous from up here. I arrived at dawn to see the New York City lights turn on to get both an early evening and nighttime perspective in my photos. It wasn't too crowded when I was here. Rockefeller Center offers a variety of ticket packages that include an express pass, VIP passes or the Beam Experience. If you don't want to take your photos from behind the glass, you can head up to one of the higher center platforms for a clearer shot without a reflection. Especially if you are one of those people that absolutely needs to use a flash.

One of the most famous black-and-white photos is "Lunch atop a Skyscraper". It is a 1932 photo of a bunch of immigrant ironworkers sitting on a steel beam 69 stories high during the construction of Rockefeller Center. Top of the Rock has added an experience where a number of people are able to sit on a beam and recreate the same photo. On this ride, guests are lifted 12 feet above the observation deck platform and taken for a 180-degree turn. It looks a little scary if you don't like heights, but makes for a fun photo.

      See You at the Top.

Must stop to experience the splendor of NYC with an unparalleled aerial view. Plenty of photo ops and an opportunity to replicate the famous photo of workers enjoying their lunch 69 stories up on a girder. Great fun. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. No rushing or fussing.

Fantastic views of the city on a clear day! Staff was friendly, but the only thing that detracted from the overall experience were the security at check in - unfortunately, they were unnecessarily rude to several guests who were simply excited to be there. I get it's a serious job, but there's a way to keep everyone safe and ensure quality customer service.

The view is really nice but the beam lowers this. Don't waste your money on poor quality photos. This I would give one star. You get two poses. Our first pose was good second pose one of our eyes where closed so it was useless. It's like a 3 minute ride they should at least allow 4 poses when you are paying $25 per person. You can even see the ride operator in the photos.
