Jaclyn’s 5-star review: Everybody is a somebody coming out of this station - at least that's the way I feel, Or better yet, an extra in a movie. It's so clean and shiny new, it makes you wanna just run up the stairs singing, "Eye of the Tiger." People hustling and bustling all over really gives you a sense of pride to be a New Yorker, honestly. -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: I always seem to get this important feeling whenever I go into Radio City Music Hall, even if I recently was here for my older sister's graduation from graduate school. It's a building filled with wonder and awe with every visit, and you can't help but think that this is one of the reasons why New York is so wonderful. -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: It was a complete spur of the moment surprise by a great friend that I couldn't say no to since I've never done it before, and for $21.00 you can see the city sparkle and gleam as if flecks of gold dust have been sprinkled all over. It was a wonderful new memory to make especially this time of year and I was stoked!....until the launching of the elevator up to the 67th floor. Ever been on Mission Space in Epcot in Disneyworld? Did you feel like me, and truly believe you were gonna barf and not on the other person sitting next to you, but on yourself due to the G forces? That's how I felt in the elevator and was really terrified. Luckily, it doesn't last too too long, and the views made it all worth it! Go outside and see the view! Go to the higher observation decks! I did chicken out and not do the highest look-out; thanks to my friend, he captured the sights perfectly. Totally romantic and really leaves you not only breathless, but as a proud NY-er. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: Save the artists NY!!! My Beau bought for me yesterday a beautiful oil on canvas painting of a scene from this park for a complete steal of $60! I support the artists and you should too - even if you're just passing through, just stop and browse; you never know what you'll find. Always calm and peaceful; best way to clear your head after dealing with crap work, or crap friends or whatever crap you happen to step yourself into. Crap! Dog crap... ::sigh:: did I mention I love this park? LoL -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: One of my most favorite places to be! There's nothing more awesome then walking over it on a nice clear day as you walk and leave Brooklyn behind and approach THE City. Pictures are a must; some great memories I have walking over, both planned and spontaneous are kept close to my heart. Twilight is another great time to walk it. -

Jaclyn’s 5-star review: This ice cream is worth eating when it's snowing! I love the taro and red bean flavors! Friendly young working staff, and they let you try a flavor if you're hesitating on what to get. I always ask for one scoop because it's really like getting two - planted on a waffle or sugar cone. Let summer come so I have an excuse to come here more lol! You can't miss the dragon eating ice cream flag that's hanging above the entrance to the place, and although you can't eat inside, you can sure as hell enjoy on the go, or sit on someone's stoop (I am guilty of both). -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: I was meaning to write a review for here ever since my boyfriend and I went to this year's LuckyRice Festival on May 1. The hotel is absolutely fulled with grandour and elegance from its Murano glass chandelier in its atrium to the detailed work on the elevator doors. I'm pretty sure this would be the likely place to possibly bump into a particular Mr. Chuck Bass (if only shows were real ::sigh::) and feel like one of Manhattan's Elite - at least I did for that night. One star removed? Yes, well this was because of the LuckyRice Event itself. My beau and I were very punctual in arranging for the 7-10 PM tasting of various asian cuisine around the city from Morimoto to the Chinatown Brasserie. At around 8:30 PM, we noticed that some restaurants were already done giving out samples from their tasting menu. Are you kidding me?! I spent good, hard earned money! Needless to say, we were outta here come 9:30 - I didn't pay to drink like a fish but to EAT and drink to until my heart's content. Sigh. Maybe next year. -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: The most sinfully wonderful chocolate that has ever graced my mouth! It's worth to splurge on yourself every now and then, but if you get for a loved one, make sure they share! Classy, elegant, and just aweing - that's New York for you! -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: Where is the only place you can go to watch kids do gymnastics, play sports, and push around other kids while you stand outside like a peeping Tom, trying to not look like a pedophile? Well! This is the place for you! My beau and I found this to be a warm haven when we were awaiting to dock on Pier 62 and were just amused by the mini-merry-go-round they had outside. The place is really equipped with new equipment and a caring staff of instructors. There was a birthday party apparently going on and they kids looked like they were having a blast. I know, I know, you're like wondering, "How long did you stay staring at these kids you freak?" But we stayed a good 45 minutes and totally got caught up watching a battle to the death lacrosse game. I wish I was little again. ::sigh:: One star was revoked due to the lighting; it seemed a little dark in some areas of the place and it made the complex cheap-like.

Jaclyn’s 3-star review: "Everybodyyyyyy Rock your Bodyyyyyy....Everyboddyyyyyy" BACKSTREET'S BACK ALRIGHT! Yes....I was here last night for the Backstreet Boys, "This is Us" Tour and I am damn proud to KTBSBPA!! :) Ok so enough about the Boys, the ballroom is a pretty small venue, and being in the GA, or general admisson pit, was similar to being groped, fondled, brushed up against all night long....actually...my boyfriend was behind me the whole show.....NEVER MINDDD lol I have two gripes with the place: 1) WHERE IS THIS GREAT INVENTION CALLED THE AIR CONDITIONING?!!!!!!!????? - it came out in cold bursts every hour or so...I'm not joking...it was so HOT I saw steam overhead like a fog cloud. Disgusting 2) Layout - I couldn't get a glass of water or a beer if I wanted to, with it being so close to the rear of the place. Once you moved slightly out of your original place, you were never gonna get back there again. But that's general admission. Pretty orderly though to get in, and the staff was cool. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: ::breathes deeply:: ahhhh! Nothing like the smell of the sea breeze and tourist in the air! It's quite a sight to see and browse in the daylight, but night might extend the shadows in such a way that you'll nominate this as the #2 spot to shoot a murder scene! (see my review of the Smith & 9th train station for #1 ::shivers::). The mall that is a quick left from the parked ships is really a great tourist trap to by all the same nick-nacks you can find in Chinatown but for wayyyy cheaper. Go see the Bodies exhibit if you haven't already, and then after, if you can bare to eat, take your pick! A great day out in the city! -
Jaclyn’s 3-star review: The first time I ever came here was with my overly enthusiastic (and now overly gay) ex-boyfriend; he was more excited about coming here than I was. Being one with the gay community has no effect on my yawn of a three star review. I love you guys, but honestly, it's just an average place to eat on my rador...not gay-dar as my best friend calls it. Although that dar of mine is very broken, my tastebuds never lie. My current boyfriend scored a $50 gift certificate here and I was honestly very excited to come back for the frrrozen hot chocolate and to possibly see if it was beautifully decorated like it was the last time I was here - more than 8 years ago. In comparison to that time gap, there are definitely alot of similarities: 1) When you make 6:45 PM reservations, they strictly mean it. You will NOT be seated a millisecond beforehand. 2) You will, regardless of where you sit, be jammed, squeezed, and stuck in your chair. It's a fire hazard for sure - bathroom? Yeah right. Good luck getting outta your seat first. 3) You will be slightly rushed. It's not too noticeable to the inexperienced Yelper, but they do it here. 4) the waiters are glorious eye candy for all of you gay proud Yelpers. It's nice that I can look and they won't let me touch 5) The Catcher in the Rye sandwich was just as I remembered it - very large portion and very average tasting. I didn't feel any spirit fingers to lick off the residue; my napkin did the job. Overall, I wouldn't come here again unless under two conditions: 1) I find a gift card in the gutter to get my hot chocolate again 2) A gay friend needs a date quick and doesn't know where to look -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: Dear Dumpling Lady, I think it's because of the heat, but, you totally smiled at me this past weekend. Don't deny it; my sister saw it too and was honestly as shocked as I was. Yes, it did seem a bit unusually hot to have your dumplings with hot sauce, might I add, but I had to. They're still $1 for five, and that's just lovely to me. Crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside; it's just pure poetry. Can't understand why I keep coming back huh? Maybe I'm just in love with you. There....I said it. Please come to my wedding to make this little pot stickers; I'll send you an invite. Love, Jaclyn -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: I have been coming to the Elizabeth Center for years for the sole purpose of roaming around aimlessly at all the teeny tiny knick-knacks they have in the various stores in the basement. So adorably anime and so Asian, you can't help but squeal in delight at their cuteness. Seriously... your brain should explode. Sadly, not all the stores in the basement are open during the week, which forces one to curiously return on the weekends (guilty). Video games, anime series sold on DVD and VHS, clothing, and that Hello Kitty pillow case you've had your eyes on for the past few months. Don't hesitate to embrace your inner Asian; I do it frequently and always find peace...and totally sweet deals! :D -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: Having my sister work here completely has its perks, like getting orchestra seats and showing up wearing sneakers and jeans and getting smug looks from women dripping in diamonds and pearls or men being forced to wear a tux - it brings me to such a giddy state! I feel so tempted to stick my tongue out at them and ask, "How much you pay for your seat? No kidding! Me too! HAHA! Yeah right sucka!!" But I'm a mature adult....sometimes... It is absolutely a beautiful place filled with granduer and wonder to the first time visitors - they're so easy to pick out. I've seen many operas here and thoroughly enjoyed them all. But my favorite story of this place was my sister and I happened to see a comedic opera show; as strange as it was, she thought it would be a nice change of pace and sat. As the show progressed, this older woman in front of us kept huffing and puffing after I laughed at a funny scene. Woman: MUST you do that?! Me: It's a comedy - I'm doing something called LAUGHING. Woman: Is it really NECESSARY? Me: Maybe if YOU laughed you wouldn't look sooooo OLD! So after that outburst, we found unoccupied seats wayy up front away from the hag (I'm pretty sure she went to security to complain about me; so we fled) - I made sure though to turn around and look at her and make faces before the lights dimmed. FTW!! -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: I truly felt like a tourist amongst the Dutch and Japanese filing onto our boat on Saturday. For a three hour tour, you honestly appreciate how much of manhattan is still natural and beautiful, whereas other parts, you wonder whether it's safer to be on the boat or on mainland. Totally worth it to see the Statue of Liberty so close up and the Empire State Building. Maybe next time I'll make it to Ellis Island which I still haven't done yet as a native NYer. Best part: waiting on line and having this woman shout about the wonders and greatness of the "magic mug" - it's like the goblet of the circle line where you can get reduced drink prices using it. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: You can't take THE city out of me, but you can take the city and plop it in Jersey Gardens and thus Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet is born! ::rubs eyes:: Does that sign say buy one pair of discounted designer shoes and get the second HALF?! ::pinches self:: Oh!! I'm NOT dead! ::runs through the store like a kid at fat camp:: It IS Saks...and I did pick up a dress that had one too many digits in the price and decided it looked prettier on the rack. There are really great price slashes here, but you better be making some sick cash money to go crazy in here. And! If you are, then please send to my house that adorable Tory Burch dress in a size 10! -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: This is my fancy dining area when sitting in the Fried Dumpling place on Mosco is either 1) too hot to sit in 2) too crowded to sit in 3) or the dumpling lady has recognized me The Park is really very soothing to sit in during the day time, and at dusk, my guy friend and I chatted on benches in corner while kids were climbing on the monkey bars and the sprinklers were still on. All year around, this park really is me in a nutshell: a stone's throw from dumplings in my favorite spot in the city, borders my local Brooklyn, and is filled with youth, laughter, and simplicity. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: Having the honor and pleasure of escorting an out of town coworker a whole night to see the sights of Manhattan lead me here, and I was glad I discovered this delicious Italian hot spot! Whether you feel like sitting outside or inside, the service is guaranteed to be the same- which was outstanding. Our water glasses were always filled to the top, and the bread overflowed in the bread basket. We opted to sit inside, and the AC was very welcoming. The decor did not necessarily scream we were in an Italian restaurant, but was modern with abstract paintings and simply painted walls. For ordering, she completely let me do that, and she didn't seem to mind my decision one bit. We started with fried calamari. It was a pretty decent portion, and the calamari was crispy, light, and perfectly cooked. Her words, "I didn't realize THIS was how it was supposed to taste like!" It was fairly good; wasn't THE best I've ever had - but it definitely had high marks. Great starter. For the entree, we (really me) decided on the Fettuccine Giovanni, which had spinach fettuccine with plain, with asparagus, prosciutto ham & sweet peppers in a light romano cheese sauce. The sauce was really unbelievably light - the pasta was even lighter! With an added touch of parmigiana cheese on top, this was really a lovely dish for two. She regretted have lunch she said, because she couldn't pull her weight in helping me finish. Even the waiter was a little surprised we didn't clean the plate completely, but we made sure to express our delight. I would love to come back and further explore the menu! Great for tourists and tourists at heart. -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: There's just something so enchanting about a carousel. I remember when I was younger, that I would try to spot out the mighty steed I wanted and would run to it as soon as I was next in line. Jane's Carousel knows no age. It completely being encased in a glass box reminds me of a music box of sorts. The horses are perfectly painted, and they are each uniquely different from each other. Children of all ages can ride like the wind on this classic amusement park ride! Want to be totally romantic? Take a trip down here at dusk and see the Brooklyn Bridge lit up against the awesome skyline! You're welcome! -
Jaclyn’s 3-star review: We came here to meet up with a co-worker of mine and his wife one windy Saturday morning for some brunch. Although this wasn't our original choice to dine, it was still a pretty decent place to go to in the area. We were seated right away at a table on the first floor to the right of the hostess stand. We were handed the brunch menu selection, which at first glance looked limited, but was actually pretty fair. I kept changing my initial selection multiple times before the waitress came to take our order. The overall decor was pretty classic of a slightly upper scale restaurant, but it still had that sports bar vibe with multiple televisions buzzing in the background. I opted for the blue crab mac and cheese, and my significant other got the steak and eggs platter; he got the better of the two. The eggs were fluffy and light, and the steak was cooked to order - medium. My blue crab mac and cheese was very VERY cheese-y, to the point where it was in a puddle of cheese at the bottom of the hot skillet it arrived in. For any cheese-lover - this is YOUR dish, but not mine. My co-worker and his wife got the Penn6 burgers to order with the very basics, and they couldn't be happier; I guess I just chose poorly. I wouldn't come out of my way to visit again, but would keep in mind that it's here. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: Gramercy Theatre hosted the crude and borderline insane and genius Margaret Cho on March 7th and it was amazing! The staff and crew are incredibly professional in this intimate setting, and they answered the #1 question all women want to know when they stand on line for a prolonged period of time - where is the bathroom?!?! It is to your immediate right when you enter into the building as you descend a few stairs. They were clean and had several stalls; awesome plus. One star was removed for the price they charge for liquor; just get a ginger ale instead and possibly wear a hip flask. My friend got two jack and cokes for $30 - holy crap! Definitely decide to be thirsty afterwards. The overall theatre is great, and the lounge that we got to meet Margaret in the downstairs area was pretty comfy and sweet. I could definitely see it used as a night club when there isn't a live show around. -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: Reservations are a MUST for the weekends if you are hoping to nab a seating outside. Luckily, my bestie made reservations in advance, and we were told that although we showed up a bit past our reservation, our table might not be available any more. By the grace of God, we were soon led outside to our reserved table. The piped in music was club-like, and the vibe outside was very relaxed, fun, and positive. The staff was incredibly attentive and made us laugh as we asked about signature drinks. I settled for the "French Quarter" and my gal pal got their Cima specialty drink. We were so full from dinner that we didn't order any additional food. We saw other tables order tacos and nachos, but we wanted to sip and take in the Bryant Park skyline. My drink was little but mighty, as it was very strong and helped me get a good enough buzz to start to sway to the music. Not too much ice either, which was nice too. Make your reservation time early enough so you can see the city lights come on from early dusk to night time - really amazing! -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: This bookstore is jam-packed with everything you could ever ask for in a Japanese bookstore. Think anime; manga; figures; stationary; calendars - the list goes on and on. You really need to take your time from floor to floor to really feel the magnitude this place has to offer. If nothing else, this place is a great option to cool off or hide from a sudden pop-up rain shower with endless categories of books to thumb through. Anime lovers should go right to the 2nd floor. Think My Hero Academia and all the most popular animes that are on Crunchyroll and Funamation. There are also artwork books as well that you can better appreciate artist concepts and more. This bookstore makes great use of their space, and you see people of all backgrounds roaming between the aisles. No one approached us as we were browsing around, and we were perfectly okay with that. I just wanted to wander and get lost in the selection, even if I ended up in the children's corner. Worth a visit if you happen to be in the area! -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: I have always loved a good excuse to take a day off from work and go to the botanical gardens. Oddly enough, I've never visited the NYBG before, and honestly don't know what took me so long to finally get here. As soon as I had heard of the Yayoi Kusama Cosmic Nature was going to be here for a limited time, I figured it's now or never! I opted to take a vacation day from work in the middle of the week to reserve the earliest time slot to see this exhibit. For $35, the ticket included both indoor and outdoor installations so you get to experience everything. Getting there early enough will allow you to take everything in without being rushed, and that's exactly what you're going to want to do. It was a pleasure taking pictures without crowds of people in the background; it was so calm and serene! The NYBG is your escape from every day Zoom conference meeting life that we all need in 2021. This place will revive all five senses, and there's always something to look at and deeply admire. It was actually pretty wild to see how well Kusama's work complimented the NYBG backdrop with her pops of bright colors that bring you right down the rabbit hole. No red or blue pill needed here. I am obsessed with Kusama's pumpkins, and the Dancing Pumpkin seemed to be just one of the popular photo opts, so make every effort to see this ASAP. Her wildly world-renowned work included dancing flowers, original paintings, stuffed fabric pumpkins, larger than life drawings, and much more in this celebration of her creativity. This is truly enjoyable for children of all ages, and I would highly recommend visiting from now until October 31, 2021. The NYBG staff are not only lovely, but they truly all love their jobs. Everyone is smiling and super happy - this is their Disneyworld for sure. Don't wait literally years to experience the NYBG - do it today! -

Jaclyn’s 5-star review: We come to Greenwood Cemetery to visit my husband's grandparents. The grounds are always so calm and peaceful, and it truly is a person's final resting place. However, over the years, Green-Wood's popularity has grown into a secondary park for families and couples to do cemetery tours and have picnics. I'm all for this daily interaction - I'm sure the dead would love to hear children's laughter every now and then, but as long as they keep the food trucks OUTSIDE of here, then I'm happy. I've actually done a "haunted" tour last year, and you get to learn about some pretty famous people that are buried here. There are some statues that you could SWEAR are really crying, and others that are just so strikingly beautiful, you have to take a picture of it. Support this beautiful historical cemetery, and keep it beautiful for many years to come. REMEMBER - people's loved ones are resting here, so act kinda normal. -
Jaclyn’s 4-star review: EVERYTHING IS OPEN!!! The renovations are FINALLY done and MAN - they did a great job keeping in mind little explorers like my 2.5 year old. I highly recommend coming as soon as they open on a rainy weekday like we did last Friday. I'm not sure who enjoyed their experience more - my son or me! Gosh, I loved how they made a fully covered enclosure to look behind the scenes and at the tanks for the seals, otters (removed because they could get COVID), and the penguins. There's plenty of panels to read and learn more about what can be done for conservation. One seal was particularly playful, and really made our trip memorable! It was so enjoyable to see also the scuba divers maintaining the tanks, and waving to my son, who thought we came to see them. Playquarium was alot of fun and we spent a great deal of time there. There's plenty of room to run around, climb, touch, explore, crawl, and much more; highly recommended! We also LOVED the seasonal gift shop that was there. The plushies were all adorable, and we were tempted to bring them all home. This was much better stocked than the gift shop at the exit of the aquarium. The tunnel in the shark exhibit was also a huge highlight, and is a must to do! Take time to walk back and forth and point out all the various sealife; really amazing. My one star was removed for the extremely high prices in the new Sea Cafe that was just opened. $15.99 for chicken fingers and fries? The options didn't seem special enough for us to eat here, and we opted to eat at Nathan's afterwards since it's literally in walking distance. Looking forward to coming back in warmer weather! -
Jaclyn’s 5-star review: Reasons for coming to the Grant Memorial: 1) You are an American with a great appreciation of history 2) You like to do things for free 3) You have been living in NY your whole life and have yet to come visit My friend and I fit all three of these categories, and went on a cool sunny Saturday afternoon. Be aware that the memorial is only open every other hour. Call to ask which would be the next hour it would be opened before making the trek here. Although the foot print is small, the overall grandeur of the domed roof and the atmosphere of awe surpasses the size. Busts of other generals guard the circumference of the memorial site around the marble tombs of Grant and his wife. Great to think, reflect, and be thankful. Be sure to check on the first floor the different flags that were used then and what they signify.
