Tozen Sushi Bar

Excellent upscale sushi

Came here in a group of four and shared:
- Hamachi crudo (a highlight, a bit like ceviche with a lovely yuzu vinaigrette)
- Pan seared hotate/scallops
- Gyoza
- Wild salmon sashimi
- Tuna bomb (delicious and different, with perfectly crispy rice)
- Red dainamaito (very good)
- Coastal crunch (interesting and the shiso tartar was good, although it was a bit hard to tell that it was fried scallops on top)
- Negi kanpa hama (really nice and fresh tasting)
- Salmon aburi

We didn't try the bluefin nigiri set, but it looked amazing when other tables ordered it. Everything was beautifully plated and well executed, with more interesting and unique flavours and ideas than you might see in most sushi restaurants. It is accordingly a bit more expensive than most sushi spots but well worth it. Tozen is one of the best sushi restaurants I've tried in Vancouver.

Service was pleasant. Ambiance was on the more upscale side.

Looking forward to returning, and trying that bluefin nigiri set!

Fairly full but not packed.

Came here because I read the reviews about how amazing or awesome the food were. Here is what I ordered, for myself:

- Miso Soup $3
- 1× order of Atlantic Salmon $12 (4pcs)
- Assorted Sushi Combo $29.75 (14pcs)
- Salmon Jalapeno Aburi Hako $15 (6pcs)

After tax and tip came up to $69.

I *WOULD NOT* recommend this restaurant despite how full it was. I don't think sushi should be *THIS* expensive. Yes I can afford every item in the menu in one sitting but price-wise the food didn't match up to its cost. I ordered what I felt could be a decent price-to-bellyfullness ratio for sushi goodeness and I felt not that full. My friend ordered a Cold Udon which was a big bowl of upon with 2pcs of tempura. It looked better and seemed way more fulling than the 4 items of the menu i ordered combined! The "high quality" food was there but the quality could also be seen as STANDARD FAIR sushi and I'd agree either way. Honestly, there wasn't anything I had that blew me away. (Maybe I should have tried their Tozen Special Sashimi for $99 and maybe it would change my mind but that's for another rainy day.)

Service-wise, the staff were professional. I did notice there were lots of Korean waitresses for a Japanese sushi restaurant, however they were nice, smiled, refreshed our tea often, so I tipped a proper amount for them.

Ambiance is great..nothing to note.

Overall, it's a Not Recommended to a Maybe for me. My issue is how am I spending +$50-60 on dinner and still not feel full? Definitely a problem no matter how you look at it.

Tried out Tozen Sushi Bar, sister restaurant to Tom Sushi. They're next door to Chef's Choice Chinese Cuisine.

We dropped in on a Sunday for lunch (12:45pm reservations). The interior is modern and we were seated at one of the booths. Service was efficient, green tea and waters refilled.

- Mushroom chawanmushi ($7.00) - excellent.
- Ika maruyaki ($12.00)
- Negitoro maki ($6.00) - a touch too much rice. These were better at Tom's Sushi.
- Saba bou ($16.00) - not bad but didn't love it torched. Think I'm a plain mackerel type.
- Assorted sushi combo ($29.75) - 8 nigiri with 1/2 salmon and 1/2 tuna maki. Quality was good. Best pieces were the chopped scallop and tamago.
- Hire katsu ($22.00) - includes one additional refill of cabbage and rice. Lightly fried and tender.

TSB's another solid sushi spot in town.

Went for dinner as I heard good things about this place and you know I love my Japanese food. As it's on Broadway, theres still construction so you won't be able to park there so leave a little bit earlier to find parking. We ordered miso marinated sable fish, mental yakiudon, a tuna roll and kaisen done. It's hard to really stand out in Vancouver as there are so many great Japanese restaurants to compete with but I think they are doing a great job just in a tough location for traffic and visibility. The service was good and the ambiance is really nice as it has a modern twist. Regardless I would go back to try out their other dishes.

The dishes were delicious and the playing is like art work. Very tentative service. Can get a little noisy when the restaurant is full. Everyone is having a great time.

Ambiance and Decor: Brand new, very modern, dark interior but with great lighting. Try to get the banquet seating - theres a lot more room

Service Quality: The staff were very attentive, always coming by and asking us if we needed anything else or more drinks

Menu Variety: This is a great place to come as they have a wide range of Japanese food on their menu. If someone doesn't like sushi there are plenty of other options such as the udon or katsu, etc.

Food Presentation: Loved the plates and dishes they used. Simple presentation.

Food Taste and Quality: Our chicken karaage was a bit light on the fryer side - we saw another order of karaage on the table beside us and it looked crispier. The food came out quick which was a surprise - it even came out before our cocktails. We ordered a couple rolls, karaage, okonomiyaki, katsu, an udon dish, the salmon entree and some other items.

Portion Sizes: The portion sizes are pretty normal for a Japanese restaurant - not too big or too small.

Drink Selection: I had ordered the Lychee cocktail - it was way too sweet for me, but I was still able to taste the alcohol so that was a plus.

Price and Value: Great pricing and value overall. It wasn't super cheap and not super expensive, just the right price in relation to the service and atmosphere of the restaurant.

Overall Experience and Recommendation: 4.2/5. I would come back and definitely try more of the menu. I would just skip on the cocktails for now.

We visited this spot to celebrate with a loved one and were treated to some fantastic dishes! We made reservations ahead of time, and it is recommended since they were quite busy even on a weeknight. The space is contemporary, and it felt very zen and calming. It is decorated and renovated quite nicely. The staff were friendly and helpful as well.

Everything was really tasty actually and we enjoyed most things we ordered. These dishes were some of the highlights: Hamachi crudo ($29), Beef yukke ($23), Uni sashimi ($20 for 4 pieces), Hotate nigiri ($3.50 for 1), Foie gras nigiri ($7), Anago nigiri ($9), Tuna bomb with crispy rice ($14), Negi Kanpa Hama ($24), and the Saba Bou ($16)!

Everything tasted really fresh and it was just delicious. It is definitely on the pricier side but it is wonderful for a special occasion. Would love to return!

This place is amazing. I came here 3 times in the past month. I just brought my friend here yesterday night and it was her first time and she loved it. I highly recommend the tuna bomb. Love how crunchy the rice is and the tuna mix that goes with it is superb. I'm not usually one to order cooked fish with I go out but the last time when I was here with my family, we ordered the miso grilled sablefish and it there was sooo much flavour and i loved it so much. So yesterday I had to order it and let my friend try and she was shocked at the flavours. It wasn't salty and the fish just melted in our mouths. The yuzu nojito mocktail is really yummy as well. highly recommend. The restaurant is kept really clean and i love the modern interior. The price is reasonable and the service was great. Everytime someone asks me for a sushi reco place, i always recommend this place to them!

We recently tried Tozen Sushi Bar, the newest Japanese spot in town. Offering a Korean-style twist on Japanese cuisine, it's the sister restaurant of Tom Sushi in Downtown Vancouver.

The menu is extensive, and our orders arrived promptly, piping hot and fresh!

The presentation of each dish was a feast for the eyes, showcasing a modern and elegant interior design that elevated our dining experience to a satisfactory level. The service was impeccable, adding to the overall positive impression.

We savoured over 15 dishes, with standout favourites including a few that stood out as must-tries:
* Yuzu Vinaigrette Marinated Hamachi
* Beef Tataki Roll
* Assorted Sushi Combo
* Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Nigiri
* Anago Nigiri
* Signature Roll - Tuna Bomb
* Bluefin Sashimi Trio

While the experience was generally positive, there is still room for improvement. Nevertheless, Tozen Sushi Bar is definitely worth a visit for its delicious food, elegant ambiance, and attentive service.

With my godmother in town, I decided to finally give Tozen, Tom Sushi's more upscale sister restaurant a try. Parking was easy with free underground stalls and an elevator depositing you directly at street level.

The space is warm and inviting but not overly pretentious, perfect for a date night or to start a night out at. Between my partner, godmother and I, we ordered the following to share:
-Tozen Signature Salad ($22)
-Ika Maruyaki ($12)
-Tozen Special Sashimi ($99)
-Assorted Sushi Combo ($29.75)
-Negi Kanpa Hama Roll ($24)
-Mentaiko Yakiudon ($16).

Highlights of our meal were the nigiri and sashimi offerings - everything is very fresh and beautifully presented. The price point was honestly not too bad, considering how much more comfortable the ambiance is compared to Tom. I do think the Special Sashimi is a touch steep at $99, but you do get a nice assortment of fish, including bluefin and a melt-in-your-mouth aburi yellowtail toro. The Ika Maruyaki was super tender and perfectly cooked. No rubber band bites here, and a good value at $12! We also really enjoyed the Mentaiko Yakiudon as it was a sufficient portion size and well-coated with lots of creamy mentaiko sauce.

Despite its appearance, the Negi Kanpa Hama roll is a pass for me personally. It's essentially a california roll with the addition of negi kanpachi and hamachi on top - not worth $24 imo. I'd also appreciate if they added a sashimi salad to the menu. The Tozen Signature isn't bad, but I feel like a sashimi salad is a mainstay on most mid to high end sushi joints here, and highlights seafood quality better than a grilled option.

Service was very attentive, with everyone topping up our tea constantly (I'm talking like after every few sips). I'd definitely recommend Tozen as a sushi destination in Vancouver if you're looking for a variety of well-executed a-la-carte offerings without breaking the bank.
