I walked in here one weekend evening and it looks like a pretty authentic BBQ + bun place. I can't speak to the food because after seeing that they don't actually serve BBQ Pork Wonton Noodle Soup mentioned by reviewer Tala W., I ended up going elsewhere. To be clear, this is a take-out-only store with no seating. The full menu is shown in one of the existing Yelp photos for this store.

Need a quick snack? Craving BBQ pork buns? Curry beef buns? Deep fried "hum sui Kok (gummy rice pastry with savoury pork filling) "?

This place has the old world charm and baked goods that deliver memories of "Popo" (grandma) home style treats.

      We went back twice today

Saw positive reviews for this small Chinese bbq take out restaurant after yearning for some good bbq duck and roast pork on rice.
On the edge of Victoria's Chinatown area in a small storefront that seemed old and dated. Not always an indication of what is ahead. Inside the store was the same. In the bbq holding display case were the bbq'd items
Ordered bbq duck on rice and roast pork on rice. Price is reasonable at under $10 per order.
Disappointed. Roast duck appeared to be leftovers from yesterday although it still tasted fine. Roast pork was better as it appeared fresher and with the crunchy skin. I would buy this again
The lady at the counter handled everything and appears to be the owner operator. As my spouse likes the flavourful hot oil cooked ginger and onion to put over her rice so I asked for some. This is normal in Toronto. The lady tells us it is only for princess chicken and didn't give us any. Audacious to tell me while condiment I enjoy on my food.

An annoying fellow customer, who I suspect is a regular also chimed in to lecture me on my Chinese pronunciation of 'g e r n c h u n g' sauce (Chinese way of saying - ginger and onion oil sauce) - that I wasn't saying it correctly, although the owner understood completely. I suggested to the fellow customer to check her in same race racism/superiority comments as they were unwelcome and unhelpful. She spoke toisan as we did too albeit not good enough for her liking. Yes, Chinese (low wah que)?mainlanders from Toisan play the race superiority card because they were Made in China. Pitiful
If the duck was sold was leftover from yesterday, say so and sell it at a discount. Today and everyday, unless told otherwise, I do expect the food to be fresh made for sale today.

      Overall 2/5. Extremely disappointed

Oh horribl, don't waste your mone. Bought 2 coconut buns and 2 sesame red bean balls for $12. The buns were stale and had very little filling, the sesame balls were so thick and heavy soaked grease with almost no bean filling.
I am from Vancouver and have eaten these pastries for over 50 years, take my word for it, these are no tasty morsels. Walk on by.....

The Chinese buns here were surprisingly fresh! And I was slightly worried when I accidentally stumbled upon this place while I was downtown.

Bun prices were slightly higher than they are back home - around $0.50+ - but I guess it's unfair to compare mainland to island prices. In addition to the buns, they also had the usual bbq window, albeit a bit more bare, and Chinese rice lunch boxes with bbq pork, soy chicken, etc.

Lunch box prices seemed ok, but I dunno what portion size is like.

Atmosphere? Hole-in-wall in Chinatown, but I'm thinking that they've been around for ever!!!

What to say? Where to begin?

Were we greeted when we set a foot in? No.
Was the lady smiling when we left? Yes.
Did I like eating an overly greasy small sesame ball and having my fingers covered by oil? No.
Did the lady agreed to warm up the pork bun of my bf that clearly didn't seem hot? No.
Why didn't she? "It's probably still hot enough."
Did it taste good? Well, do you like eating cold pork stew? There's your answer.
      Was the food pricey? Yes.

      Will I go back? No.

I used to really enjoy this place, I've only had their baked goods, never a meal. But $10 for 4 buns is too much now...

Amazing place. Excellent bbq pork, roast pork and bbq duck. The lunch combos were delicious and surprisingly cheap. This place also has the best deep fried dumplings I've ever tried. Would greatly recommend this place!

Every time we're in Victoria which is almost every weekend, we stop by to pick up coconut buns. They never disappoint, especially when they're fresh from the oven!

Nice take out place for Chinese baking. Tried a couple of sweet buns and I thoroughly enjoyed them! I got a sesame ball, red bean bun, and two different pineapple buns that were very solid. Delicious dough and not overly sweet filling. I would recommend this place is you are in the mood for some solid Chinese baking and are passing by. I cannot speak for their savory buns but they had a great selection of them. Not the best Chinese baking I have ever had (that goes to a lovely bakery in Montreal) however it is solidly good.

      Pretty red bean bun
