We stopped by The Workshop Vegetarian with Grandma for a simple lunch.

I was looking for some glasses to pour our drinks into, and instead of regular drinking glasses I found that this cafe provides glass jars that are used as drinking glasses. Hmmm...interesting. It didn't bother me but I did find it a bit puzzling. Something to do with being eco friendly is my best guess.
Their sandwiches are delicious but I'm looking forward to coming here on a colder day sometime so that I can try their Tan Tan Ramen which my husband raved about the first time we came to this restaurant!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 6, 2024Previous reviewWithin North Vancouver and West Vancouver there are very few options for plant based eating. The Workshop Vegetarian is the only restaurant I know of on that side of town that is a dedicated Vegan/ Vegetarian restaurant. I am so happy that I finally got to try it! (And I got to use another plant based deals coupon for it too!)

My husband loved his Spicy Tan Tan Ramen, and when my meat eating husband eats something plant based and actually likes it, that is a sure sign of good food. He tried the Miso Glazed Eggplant Veggie Sandwich and gave his seal of approval to that as well.
I don't know what it is about Breakfast sandwiches that's got our daughter hooked on them so much but I am definitely not complaining about it as she's learning to widen her taste palate and eat foods she's never really eaten much before, thanks to her new love of Vegan breakfast sandwiches. This one at Workshop Vegetarian was no exception to the rule. She loved this one, and the greens were not a detterent!
Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a simple dish that I could make at home so I don't usually order it, but a vegan version of it is a real treat as we don't often have Vegan cheese at home. I absolutely loved this Vegan Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The cheese was just as ooey and gooey as a regular Grilled Cheese Sandwich and it tasted so good with the Marinara sauce!
They also have a fridge and freezer section where you can buy ready made food to go, or plant based foods to cook at home. I think I may do a bit of shopping on my next visit!
This place is my new favourite on the North Shore, and I can't wait to go back again!

They have a hot food menu but there are also bowls and sandwiches in a grab and go fridge, which they will heat or (for salads) toss for you if you'd like to eat in. They also sell dried noodles. take-home ramen kits, lots of frozen foods, and a small assortment of local crafts like cards. I'm not a big ramen person, so I came here thinking I'd probably get a sandwich, but the spicy tan tan ramen sounded different and caught my attention, so I ordered that along with a chocolate cupcake and a lavender latte.
The ramen was amazing! I could've happily eaten the creamy squash broth on its own, or the pate-like nut mix that it was topped with. The noodles had a good tenderness as well. The broth was pretty oily and it was a little too much for me. I know that the oil is where the spice comes from and the spice was very much a good thing, but I would have liked it better if some of that spice had come from other channels so that the broth wasn't so oily. However this is just my preference as I prefer very low oil in my food in general; if you like a rich broth, you might be fine with the oil level in this.
After my first few bites of the cupcake, I was not convinced, but by the time I was finishing it, I was in love with the deep dark chocolate flavour and richness of the frosting. The cake was a little on the dry side, but honestly it didn't really matter because the flavour was there.
The lavender latte was just okay. I got it decaf, and I always drink decaf and mostly like it so it's not like I'm a snob about regular vs decaf, but I did feel that this one "tasted decaf" - a little over-roasted and lacking in depth. Nothing off about it though, just missing the wow factor. That being said, I really liked the extra foamy cap!
I bought a cup of natto from them to take home because I've never seen a shop selling homemade natto here! Very good!
North Vancouver is a hike for me, so although I would love to come back and get that sandwich, who knows if or when I'll get the chance... but I'm glad I found the chance to come out at least this once because this might be the most I've ever enjoyed a bowl of ramen!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 21, 2024
Wow! I'm not vegetarian but always up for good veggie options and saw this place get excellent reviews so it was too good to pass up. Am I so glad I did! I came in at lunchtime, not crowded, tried the tan tan ramen. Wow the flavors are out of this world. So good - hard to describe but the flavours are so incredible. I can see why this place is award winning. Not only the broth but the noodles are great too. I would come back in a heartbeat - in fact I'm gonna bring my wife here who was skeptical when she passed by the front.

I decided to try this place out again, as it'd been over 6 years since I visited. I ordered the same dish as before: the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen (now $19 plus tax) and added some smoked tofu ($3).
The soup came out in about 6 minutes with a generous portion. The soup included kale, butternut squash, a nut and soy medley, and green onions, with what seemed like buckwheat noodles. The broth was rich and very thick, but not particularly complex or elegant.
Shame they still do the organic thing, which must inflate the price, while not actually offering any health or environmental benefit. (I wish people would stop erroneously assuming organic=good; the evidence says otherwise.)
Not one of the best vegan ramens in Greater Van by a long shot. I've tried literally every place that offers vegan ramen, and I'd put this in the lower third. Decent but I wouldn't particularly recommend it and can't see myself returning any time soon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Matt for your opinion. We are sorry to hear that you found our ramen oily. As for the price, we hand make our vegan noodles using organic ingredients where possible so this is the reason it is slightly higher than other Ramens. Thank you for trying us out!
Dec 1, 2016Previous reviewNot sure what the deal is with these high ratings, as this place was very disappointing to me. Portions were small and not overly filling, which is hard to do for a ramen place. The ramen I ordered was insanely oily -- the broth must have had many tablespoons of oil, which is very unpleasant. The prices are exorbitant -- you're looking at $12-$13+ after tax (excl. tip) for a bowl of ramen, which I admit, is fancier than normal ramen. Service is friendly and the food comes out very fast, but these pluses don't make up for the nastily oily food and very high prices. Nice to see another vegan option on the Shore, but this was very disappointing. I won't be back.

I went to have the mushroom ramen again it sadly it's not available until October :(
Ramen is $19 now (gaaaaa.... Inflation). Add an egg for $3. Kaedama is $5. This place is pretty expensive. The ramen noodles were nice and had the perfect bite. The tan tan broth was quite nice and rich but I still prefer the mushroom broth.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 14, 2019Previous reviewThis place is def worth a visit if you are in the north shore!
My husband and I had to try their ramen. It was the dead of summer and no ac so we sat outside. Lol.
I ordered the mushroom broth and he ordered the tan tan. After our usual half time switch, we determined that He loved his and I loved mine. He loved the nuttiness of the butternut squash broth which I found a bit heavy. I loved the umami of the mushroom broth. The ramen was cooked perfectly.
From my photos, it seems like they are giving less mushrooms in their soups than before.
I enjoyed looking at the different Knick knacks they sell on the side as well. - Dec 31, 2021
This is THE only go to place for tasty ramen noodles on the North Shore. You can't go wrong eating yummy organic ramen at reasonable prices. I always have the spicy tan tan ramen. It's served either cold or ho in their signature creamy organic butternut squash broth & rayu chilli oil. It definitely warms the soul on a cold winter day. We also had the shoyu ramen in mushroom broth with truffle-shallot oil. It was a treat to try their handcrafted vegan steam bun. Delish.
They are an ideal eatery for vegetarians and vegans. They also offer frozen vegan ramen noodles at various food places such as IGA, Meridian Farm Market & Stongs. Check their website for various locations. Unfortunately, they are only open for lunch on weekdays from 11 am to 6 pm Mon to Friday. If you enjoy eating healthy and organic food, you can't go wrong here. They're located off Marine Drive and Pemberton in North Vancouver. There's complimentary parking on the street.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Moogie C.North Vancouver, Canada03Mar 2, 2024
I will never eat here again. We were first timers, and struggling to know what to choose. Some of our party were older and unaccustomed to ordering vegetarian food. The staff treated our indecision with annoyance, even disdain. It's not like they were busy at all. They even looked past our shoulders to greet and talk to the regular who showed up behind us. And the food! Incredibly expensive for a bowl of... nothing! Sorry, no place has made me feel as indignant as The Workshop. I was embarrassed because as someone from the North Shore, I'd been excited to try them for a while and brought my family and friends only to be treated so dismissively.

As an omnivore I'm open to anything that tastes good. And when hosting a vegan friend I'll suggest Workshop for lunch. Recently our mechanic (CAC Auto) sent us a gift basket from the Workshop. We are trying various at-home products and they are amazing. The vegan croissants that I left out overnight to rise looked very promising as I put them in the oven. The family thought they were amazing. Fully comparable to non-vegan alternatives, they will please all (like they did for our family). Top notch.

Holy smokes, I can't believe they've been around since 2016 and it's taking me this long to write a review. We're a huge fan of a number of their products including their house-made kimchee (best in town, better than anything you'll find at HMart or T&T) and udon broth but really wanted to shut out for their Tan Tan frozen soup/broth product. Dang. So tasty and healthy. Realllllly convenient as you can buy 6 packages at at time and leave them in your freezer for those days you don't feel like cooking.
Buy their ramen noodles, add some bokchoy, julienned carrots and green onions, and voila, you've got fantastic quick dinner with just enough spicyness (though my son likes to add some hot oil - he's a crazy one). Tasty and fast. You can't beat it.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
