Peter’s 4-star review: I wish I had been here pre-COVID! The inside of Hi-Collar seems like a very lovely place, but currently they are only doing outdoor seating, which is essentially 3 tall round tables under a sheltered zone with a heating lamp. I have been enjoying swinging by here for coffee and tea while I do some reading; the cafe staff have always been so cheery and polite, and their drinks have always been solid and flavorful as specialty coffee and tea should be (they have single origin options too)! They also offer a selection of Japanese entrees and brunch items, which seem pretty enticing too. Great place to meet up with a friend. Counting the days until they're in full swing again! -

Peter’s 4-star review: Prince Tea House! This location in East Village is new, though I'd never tried any of the other locations. I swung by one afternoon for tea to do some reading, and also picked up a cake here recently. I got the jasmine tea, which was quite good, not too floral or bitter. It's neat because here they set the teapot over a small ceramic fire-lit plate, which helps to keep the tea warm. They have a large variety of teas--green, black, white, herbal--along with milk teas too, of course. As for the cake, I ordered the mixed fruit crepe cake. Pretty good but I wasn't impressed for the high price tag; I enjoyed the selection of fruits, but some of the fruit was not very ripe, and there was too much cream in my opinion. I did however appreciate that it was not overwhelmingly sweet. They have other crepe cakes, like matcha and brown sugar boba which may be better options to explore. The staff here were friendly & down-to-earth. Given their positive service and extensive menu, it's definitely the kind of place I'd want to come back and try again. They also have heated outdoor seating during COVID which makes it feasible to visit in these rough times (they were actually doing indoor seating too before the most recent mandate, shame to see it go). I think you'll be glad you did! -
Peter’s 4-star review: When you're hit with that sweets craving, there's no place more enticing than Veniero's. It's a great feeling to walk in and to be hit with the wide array of options that they have! Cakes, tarts, pastries, cookies, cannolis, pies--they truly have it all. Some of my go-tos are the mini fruit tarts, lobster tail, finger cookies, and tiramisu. Mostly anything you get here is pretty amazing! One exception: maybe it was an off-day, but their cannolis were a little stale when I had them. That same day too actually, the person that helped me was kind of rude, giving me blank stares and being short with his words. Probably just an off day, because all other times I've been, the staff have been overall very speedy and nice. Definitely an East Village staple! With COVID, there has sometimes been a line forming outside, so maybe be prepared to wait.
