Miki’s 5-star review: I love Daichan! If you're in the mood for healthy Japanese soul food, this is the place!! We eat here often because of the great food, great service, and interesting decor. Gary (owner/chef) & his wife put a lot of heart and soul in the food and the little trinkets that decorate their cute, comfortable restaurant. The menu has japanese dishes like pork katsu-don and hawaiian-influenced dishes like tuna-poki. I never feel like I've gained 10 lbs of fat whenever eating here because everything tastes so healthy. Gary does a good job of giving his customers nongreasy comfort food. I tend to order the Tuna Rice Soup which has vegetables and rice in a clear flavorful broth with fresh pieces of raw tuna on top. Other favorites include the pork katsu-don and the chicken curry. Daichan has good food, service, and ambience. I'm definitely a regular. Note: the parking can get relatively bad on the weekends because Sushi Nozawa is next door. Try looking for something on the street.

Miki’s 4-star review: This is a cute place perfect for grabbing coffee, lunch, or that weekend brunch without breaking the bank. It gets very crowded in the weekends with a line going out the door. But if the weather is perfect, you can grab a table in their outdoor seating area to chat it up with friends or catch up on a good read. If you need reading materials, there is a quaint bookshop in the back. The food, coffee, and teas are excellent. I would recommend trying their bakery goods and apple & brie. Like Chris B's review below, the red velvet cake is awesome! Omelettes are good, but there have been occasions when they have been as impressive (usually when the cafe is super busy). Parking isn't too bad here compared to 3rd street and Melrose area. They also recently added valet parking in the front. As for the crowd, I haven't seen too many pretentious people around, just a bunch of cool artsy folks (usually writers and production people in the biz). This is definitely not your typical Starbuck's. Overall, great food, great coffee, and great people-watching. -
Miki’s 4-star review: $30 for spa mani/pedi? I am sold! Although they don't do the hot towels wrap like Studio Nail Spa down the street, I still frequent this place for its cleanliness and friendly vibes. For an extra $10, you can get a pretty nice shoulder massage. Cleanliness is huge for me when it comes to nail salons, and it should be for you as well. Who would want fungus on the toes? This place is clean and use plastic-lined tubs for your toes and tools in sanitized bags. The polish selection is huge and consists of OPI & Essie. My polish usually lasts for at least 2 weeks, if not more. They recently bought new spa chairs. Everyone is friendly, especially the owner. Best of all, they take credit card. -
