Jing’s 5-star review: I finally made it to OddFellows! It took a long ride on the G train and an equally time-consuming walk along Metropolitan Ave (probably not the best idea for a solo trip at night) but the ice cream experience here was DEFINITELY worth the 45 minute commute! I get a little crazy when it comes to ice cream and frozen yogurt so when I heard of OddFellows' unique twist on ice cream, I dived into the closest train station while in Brooklyn and thus, began my journey. Not sure why but I wasn't the least surprised that the line was out the door. The line DOES move at a reasonable pace so it shouldn't deter anyone from missing out on the ice cream here. Once inside, a painted monkey on the wall greeted me. It wore a red and yellow uniform complete with a pair of cymbals and a toothy grin. The free pin earned from checking in on Yelp is of the same monkey. Very cute! I sampled the Extra Virgin Olive Oil (buttery and smooth), Black Pepper Strawberry (dang that pepper is strong), Miso Cherry (salty sweet), and the Butter Milk Honey Blueberry (sweet and creamy with blueberry skins). The staff are very accommodating and friendly. After my 3rd sample, I felt so bad for holding up the line but the staff were all smiles when handing me my 4th sample. I also asked to try their Boozy Absinthe flavor as well but unfortunately, they are stored in the back for orders only and unavailable for sampling. FYI, they have a $10 credit card minimum. Single scoop $4, double $6, triple $7. Plenty of seating for those who prefer to stay and eat. Free wifi as well. Pretty neat place with creative and quality ice cream (and ice cream desserts). -
Jing’s 5-star review: Dark. Romantic. Sexy. In the heart of Williamsburg (or is it Greenpoint?), Brooklyn. 14 years old and under not admitted (haha). Lots of couples and group dates are personally led through 3 floors of elegant dark wood hallways and mirrors to their own L-shaped private booth that is perfect for cuddling. A bamboo screen casts a sheer cover for privacy. It is very possible to gaze beyond the screen and see your neighbors (as well as hear them) but eyes on your dinner companion! It's a PERFECT date place. I love how there is no dress code but many people are dressed nicely. Most do not wear formal attire (pheww!). We had their Omakase tasting menu that is $65 per person and covers 8 small plates. It changes seasonly. I was a bit worried that I would not be full afterwards but I left feeling very satisfied and hunger did not set in until the next morning. If you are ordering a la carte, they recommend 3-4 plates per person. We also tried a small glass of their plum wine. Very sweet and perfect for me! Our experience with their early-Summer 2015 Omakase menu: 1. Miso soup with scallions and mushrooms. Tastes much better and definitely more authentic than your typical miso soup at a sushi restaurant. A little salty but manageable. 2. Chilled platter with 4 different samples. The waitress will recommend the order they should be consumed. First, the freshest fish in the market that day, which for us was salmon and yellowtail sashimi (2 pieces each). Very fresh and thick slices. Next was a large Japanese snail that they carefully pulled out from its shell and cooked. The beautiful shell is left on the plate with salt underneath for your seasoning. Then we tried the big spoon of fish underneath their jelly. I couldn't taste much but it was very refreshing. The last sample we tried was a small bite of sashimi on top of pickled shredded carrots. 3. Zenkichi House Salad with one block of soft silken tofu in the center and greens on the bottom. The peanut dressing was delicious and added a lovely creamy texture to the leaves. The tofu was a challenge to pick up with chopsticks. 4. The fried tempura came with the House Salad. 2 pieces of fried peppers, 2 pieces of fried fish, and a small plate of matcha green tea salt for sprinkling over the tempura. The peppers were refreshing and provided a nice contrast with the fried fish. The salt didn't have much of a matcha flavor. 5. Grilled black cod. Very smooth, juicy, and buttery. A few small bones are left in there so be careful. Came with a few slices of white radishes on the side. 6. 3 thick slices of beef, cooked rare with a very pink center. I've never had my beef/steak cooked rare but this was great! Tough on outside, soft and chewy on inside. 7. Donburi with seaweed, garnishes, and sashimi on top of white rice. The rice was a little dry. A bit of light soy sauce would have been perfect. It arrived in a really cute plastic canister. 8. Dessert! We each picked one from the dessert menu. Their frozen black sesame mousse was AMAZING! Very rich in black sesame taste. A thicker version of Cha-an Teahouse's black sesame ice cream in St. Marks. If you love that one, you will fall head over heels for this dessert! We also had their walnut chocolate pudding. It was also very rich and creamy. Complimentary to our desserts were 2 little dark chocolate truffles infused with whiskey. Their desserts are incredible. Looking back, I wish we ordered an extra dessert ($6.95) outside of the Omakase menu. Service was impeccable and the girls are very sweet and efficient. I booked our dinner to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and reminded them at check-in. Our desserts came with candles on a Happy Birthday plate. I'm glad they did not sing as it would contradict the sexy, intimate ambience. I highly recommend their food, service, and romantic setting to every couple out there who wants to splurge a little for a date night! I would love to come back!! -
Jing’s 5-star review: One of the best parks in NYC. It has an incredible skyline view of NYC and is constantly expanding pier by pier. We took a stroll one Saturday night from Pier 6 to Pier 1. Yelp breaks down the park by pier but here's what we thought was unique in each one. Pier 6 begins at Atlantic Ave & Furman Street. There's a Fornino pizza restaurant on the second floor of a building with public restrooms on ground level. There's also a kids playground and volleyball court. Pier 5 hosts the famous Ample Hills Creamery kiosk. There's also a huge soccer field on the pier. Along the river are dozens of picnic tables. Everyone brought their own grills, which made this section of the walk smell delicious. It was also the most crowded part we walked through that night. Smorgasburg is also held here on weekend mornings. Before we dived into the Picnic area, I made sure to snap a photograph of the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge with the gorgeous Empire State Building in view. Pier 4 is relatively tiny compared to the rest of the piers. It's a small beach adorned with huge rocks separating it from the walkway. No swimming allowed. Pier 3 is hard to miss. There are huge granite blocks stacked on top of one another on your right. Lawns are plenty and this summer's Mirror Labryinth public artwork is here. Pier 2 houses a huge recreation center from handball to basketball courts complete with lockers and water fountains. If you walk along the pier, you get one of the best views of the Brooklyn Bridge! The Empire State Building is no longer in view unfortunately. Pier 1 has a little of everything. Food, playground, giant lawns, and the Granite Prospect, stone steps for climbing or sitting down as you admire the skyline and bridge. There is supposedly an Appearing Rooms pubic interactive art piece here during the daytime. I will definitely be coming back to check this out! Pier negative 1 -- Jane's Carousel? Jing’s 2-star review: I've heard the name Ample Hills before. While walking along the piers in Brooklyn Bridge Park, we passed by this kiosk on Pier 5. Lines were pretty short at night so we stopped by for some quick ice cream. We got the strawberry & cream and cookies & cream. From the reviews here, it looks like we should have tried their more popular flavors (Salted Crack Caramel, Ooey Gooey Butter, and Sweet as Honey). Either way, our ice cream started melting after the first 5 seconds. The cardboard cup holding the liquid-y mess was losing shape. I ran back to get some napkins. And the worst part was: our ice cream tasted like cardboard (even the parts that didn't touch the cup). Disgusting. The only thing I liked about our ice cream were the huge chunks of strawberries and oreo cookies. -
Jing’s 5-star review: Friendly staff. Great savory crepes and ice lattes! The latte is strong with rich espresso aroma. They also have simple syrup at the sugar station so I can easily add some sweetness to my drink and head out. It's right by one of the 7 Ave subway station exits. Note: $5 credit card minimum! Their small ice latte is $5. -
Jing’s 3-star review: This is a popular local spot for ice cream in the warmer months. It's right in front of the 7th Avenue F train station and the lines can get pretty long. During the winter, this location serves soup (Soup Bowl of Park Slope). They have soft serve, Italian ices, ice cream, shakes, and other frozen drinks, all ranging from $3-6. Despite the wide variety of flavors, I prefer the vanilla and/or chocolate soft serve. Their regular ice cream has too much of a stretchy consistency. They can also be over-frozen and tough to break into with a plastic spoon. -
Jing’s 4-star review: Fresh veggies in their falafel platter! White sauce is minty and thin. Hummus is tasty and creamy. Great open space for people watching and getting a quick late night meal without feeling fat. -
Jing’s 5-star review: Promenade - a long paved and leveled walkway usually by the river or a waterfront. I loved how I stumbled across this promenade by accident while I was in the residential area of Brooklyn Heights. I felt like I stepped out of somebody's home and into a backyard with a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline! There are park benches along the promenade and the consistent sound of the cars in the highway below provided a soothing NYC soundtrack. There's something very peaceful yet New York about this place, especially if you come late at night. -
Jing’s 2-star review: Fries are addicting. Burgers are cheap (like 2 for $3) but very small and taste worse than Burger King's. No smoothies when we went at ~8pm. Private outdoor patio in the back has lots of potential. Hope they clean it up.

Jing’s 4-star review: This tiki bar is awesome and a great way to welcome the warm weather this weekend! With a name like Zombie Hut, I thought it would be horror-themed but instead it has a lively and warm ambience. + outdoor patio in the back was open + friendly bartenders + couches and small wooden tables for groups in the back + tiki-themed decor all around the wooden walls to take you away from city life + clean bathrooms + drinks were all under $10 each + FROZEN ZOMBIE cocktail was sweet with sugar on the rim and tasty yet strong + pitchers with ice-cold water and plastic cups at the end of the bar for your convenience + free board games + gotta try the Scorpion bowl and tiki shots next time! - some games missing pieces, like the dice - group tables aren't really well-attended so sometimes the empty cans/glasses from the previous group are still there on the table but at least they have a trash can nearby -
Jing’s 5-star review: Did you know that the first attempt to build a subway line underground used pneumatic tubes, aka tubes that moved a single subway car using compressed air and a large vacuum? For many reasons, including political and financial, the project was shut down after a few months. How cool would it be if it had been implemented and been further developed in the past century...! Another fact that blew my mind was the competition between the different railroad companies before they were unified by the City. Lettered trains were operated by BRT, Brooklyn Rapid Transit, and numbered trains by IRT, Interborough Railroad Transit. BRT cars were one foot wider than the IRT cars and built for comfort and luxury whereas IRT cars were built for speed and efficiency. The difference in sizes prevented their competitor's cars to fit in their own platforms and tunnels. That is some nasty yet ingenious rivalry! These were just two of the MANY fascinating facts our guide, Katherine, shared with us on our tour at the New York Transit Museum today. Their tours are free with your $7 admissions ticket and offered three times a day (highly recommend!). They begin in the "lobby" by the ticket booth and then take you downstairs to the platform where the vintage subway cars are on display in the tracks. We were able to catch the last tour at 3pm, which left us only about 10 minutes afterwards to explore the rest of the exhibits before they were closing for the day (5pm). But no regrets at all because Katherine was incredible and we each walked away with an unforgettable experience as we learned about how each subway car on display came to be and evolved as problems had arisen. She also gave us a very detailed and engaging history of the NYC public transportation system as we sat down in the old train cars. What a unique experience! Please do yourselves a favor and go check it out! Perhaps come earlier so you can catch an earlier tour (I believe 1pm) or to explore the exhibits on the upper level above the train platform before the 3pm tour. -
Jing’s 4-star review: Do you love macarons? How about a MACARON CAKE with some white chocolate pieces on top!? That's right! And it tastes like a macaron too. It's about the size of your palm but I do not recommend eating it alone unless you have a huge sugar craving, which I did. I had their Cocoa blend hot tea with my cake, as recommended by one of the sweet staff members. It smells like chocolate and goes down with a subtle and smooth chocolate aftertaste. They also have other delicious looking [vegan] cakes and chocolates. The chocolate bites at the far end of the glass display are $2 each, which is insane. I also really love the ambience and seating here. It feels so comfortable and cozy, a perfect place to escape into after a long day (or for a quiet study break). P.S. $10 credit card minimum. -
Jing’s 4-star review: I had the Valley Thunder grilled cheese sandwich, which came with beef brisket and mac n' cheese with cheddar cheese melted all over on the inside. If you love S'Mac, you will definitely love this place since it's not as salty or oily. Their cheese is homemade as well! They also sell their cheese, olives, beer bottles, and other condiments if you're looking to do a little grocery shopping. I didn't like their fennel tomato soup though. The tomato taste was a little too much for me after a few spoonfuls. -
Jing’s 4-star review: VEGGIE BURGER. You MUST get this if you are in Pickle Shack. Or even in the neighborhood! The patty and bread MELTS into your mouth. The only burger that I could think of that comes close to this level of euphoria is the one at Umami. Their famous fried pickles on the other hand was too much for me. I thought I loved pickles but you must REALLY love pickles to be able to enjoy this little appetizer. One fried pickle slice packs a lot of pickle power! I can't comment on the beer as I didn't have any but I can tell you that the staff here definitely knows their beer and are happy to share that knowledge with you. -
Jing’s 5-star review: Just as good as any other Five Guys in the city and outer-boroughs! Staff here are friendly and efficient. If they see you waiting around a while for your order, they'll ask for your ticket number so they can check up on it. The wait can be a little longer than desired because they grill the patty right when you order. Definitely worth it once you bite into that juicy burger!

Jing’s 4-star review: Grilled chicken (dark meat) banh mi - $6.75, includes tax. I came here on a somewhat empty stomach looking to save my second half of the sandwich for later that night and guess what... I finished the whole thing in one sitting! The chicken was so juicy and tender and the bread was fluffy and crispy. They also use some type of white sauce with the chicken that reminds me of the sauce in chicken over rice carts. It's so gooooood. I think the bread is on par with the bread at Num Pang but bigger and cheaper! Plus, they have pho! Whaaat! I gotta try it next time! They have plenty of seats and free wifi! -
Jing’s 5-star review: I'm lucky that my workplace orders these doughnuts. I've tried the hibiscus*, coconut, lemon poppy seed*, mocha with crushed almonds flavors, and dulce de leche*. The dough (aka BEST PART) is soft, a little flaky, a little chewy, and dense but light. The doughnuts are not overly sweet (cough cough Dunkin Donuts). I can't wait to stop by this bakery and try their other flavors! *my favorites :) -
Jing’s 5-star review: This place reminds me of Max Brenner except with more charm. Their signature brownie sundae is a must!! Make sure your spoon starts from the whipped cream on top, sinks through the ice cream, and scoops up the chocolate fudge and brownie on the bottom. YUMM!! The almond chocolate chip cake was pretty good too but not as mouthwatering or smooth as their sundae. They ran out of their famous chocolate layer cake which I also wanted to try. Next time :) PS the sundae goes well with some root beer. -
Jing’s 5-star review: This venue is beautiful! They host a variety of events including films, performances, comedy sketches, and FREE live music. BAM Cafe is located on the second floor of the Peter Jay Sharp Building and is opened Friday and Saturday nights (6pm-11pm). Last night (Friday 9pm), White Prism performed some of their catchy, breathy synth-pop songs. The audience were all nodding to the beat, some even stood up to shake their shoulders! I can't believe this was a free performance! At 8pm, around the time we arrived, the tables were about half occupied. By 9pm, they were all filled. So my recommendation? Come early, take a seat, have a drink, and enjoy the ambiance :) -
Jing’s 5-star review: I freaking love this place! Everything is amazing. We picked random appetizers and entrees from their menu with help from the lovely waiters and they were all delicious. The bread and dipping sauce was perfect. The calamari was crispy and rich with the flavored mayo. The soup was neither too thin nor thick (had no bacon flavor like its name suggested though). Our two different fettuccine entrees were the best I have ever had. Unfortunately we were too full to try their desserts but honestly this is one of the few restaurants I feel safe picking ANY dish from their menu and enjoying it. Almost forgot to mention. The grand total came out to be less than $60! A-freaka-mazing! -
Jing’s 3-star review: Very cute bakery in Park Slope. They have a little corner with children's books. No shame in reading one of those while sipping on their iced tea and waiting for the Brooklyn Blackout cupcake to warm up. It seems that their cakes are stored at a colder temperature compared to the Brooklyn Blackout at the Two Little Red Hens in Upper East Side. -
Jing’s 5-star review: I am DROOLING while writing this review and reminiscing of their food. The texture of their vegetarian meats can take a few bites to get comfortable with but the FLAVORS and SPICES are incredible! We tried their Pepper Steak and Curry Chicken, both vegetarian and over rice. We also shared a pea patty/empanada. The pea patty was a little too mushy and reminded me of comfort soup (and the Curry Chicken dish as well). But I would still get it again! Prices are cheap. It's $7 for a small box that can really fill you up. The empanadas are $2.50 each. It's a little bit bigger than a hole-in-the-wall with some seating. I would come here everyday if I lived nearby! -
Jing’s 4-star review: I would definitely return if I was ever in the area. Hometown BBQ is all the way down in Red Hook, near IKEA. It has a very open layout with both a rustic and industrial vibe, a small step up from the Mighty Quinn's chain. Their ribs and brisket are amazing and worth the journey! I'd pass on the pulled pork though. It's not as juicy and pales in comparison to the other meats. Don't forget to try their banana pudding! -
Jing’s 5-star review: I dedicate my 600th Yelp review to one of my favorite dessert bars in NYC: Patisserie Tomoko! PT is an inconspicuous dessert bar opened by Chef Tomoko in Williamsburg after she helped set up the popular Cha-An in East Village. All of the seats are at the bar but they never get filled to maximum capacity. The resulting ambience is cozy and relaxing. The hooks underneath the counter are very helpful. The matcha milk cocktail is my FAVORITE. It's frothy, smooth, and the milk perfectly blends two of my most favorite flavors together: sake and matcha. It's the perfect drink for sake or matcha (lactose-tolerant) lovers. Asides from their matcha milk, the other highlight of this patisserie is the prix fixe menu. They offer 2 and 3 dessert courses ($12 and $16, respectively). The extra course is a starter that changes frequently. Both courses include one main dessert and pettis fours. We had the black sesame creme brulee both times. It's a little watery but if you love black sesame ice cream (like from Cha-An), you will definitely love it in creme brulee form! The pettis fours vary from macarons to small cookies with interesting flavors and textures. One night we noticed them making cream puffs for an order and we also ordered 2. We were willing to wait 20+ minutes for them. Best decision that night. It was Beard Papa's quality (minus the excess powdered sugar). -
Jing’s 5-star review: Union Hall has something for everyone. Wanna cozy up in a library or a booth? How about we play some indoor bocce*? Or head downstairs for a comedy show** (complete with a downstairs bar)? Love beer? Union Hall is seriously my go-to place in Park Slope! It feels so exclusive when there aren't any crowds but it still maintains that inviting and chill down-to-earth ambience regardless of the number of people. The ground floor has an open layout, which I adore. The only thing I probably love more than the layout are the bartenders. My friend and I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon after brunch (heck yeaaah) and noticed a milk/coffee flavored draught. Seeing our confusion, he happily brought a glass under the tap and offered us a sample. That was so kind of him! ------ * Bocce is a ball sport played on a very long and narrow court that's covered with a thin layer of natural soil. They have 2 courts laid side by side. Two players/teams play per court as designated by the blue and red balls. The white ball is the pallino (or boccino) and the goal is to get your ball as close to the white ball as possible. I like to roll my ball to knock the pallino away from my friend's and closer to mine (hehe). There's a fairly complicated point system that you can research online if you're interested in keeping score. ** They sell event tickets online at Ticketfly (and at the door). Online tickets are cheaper when purchased at least 1 day in advance (was $6 vs $8 for my Battle of the Divas - Beyonce vs Lady GaGa - t'was a great night of comedy, drag queens, and lip syncing!). I love how they have cups and water pitchers at the downstairs bar for people who aren't drinking alcohol. Also, the bathrooms stalls downstairs are unisex so even if you see someone of the opposite sex, don't worry, you're in the right place! -
Jing’s 5-star review: Franklin Park (Crown Heights) and Union Hall (Park Slope) are my two favorite hangout spots in Brooklyn. Both bars are spacious with plenty of room for breathing, drinking, and playing. We first walked through a courtyard, complete with picnic tables and strings of lights into Franklin Park's main bar. We saw that it was connected to the burger place around the corner. There was also a separate secret bar behind the red door in the garden/courtyard that they opened for us. How cool is that!? I could spend a good hour playing at the mini arcade here (50 cents to $2 each for air hockey, pinball, and 3-4 other old school games but the photo booth is overpriced at $5). Sometimes they turn on their projectors in the main bar area. Bartenders and servers are also really chill and there's plenty of room to stand, sit, or dance when the night darkens some more. -
Jing’s 4-star review: I came here twice, both in the mid-afternoon. I was impressed with the selection and the dressing rooms! I never thought I would say this but: Old Navy has really nice clothes, at least this location does! And there were a lot of staff members keeping the clothes tidy on the racks (including the little sales corner, which is an accomplishment). The people manning the dressing rooms were very swift and competent both times. Unfortunately, they placed all their best staff members on the floor rather than at the registers. The cashiers all seemed really young and inexperienced, especially when it came to folding clothes (they take up to a minute to fold each item - this adds up!). The line barely moves and gets longer and longer.... it can be a 45 min wait... at 3:30pm on a weekday... . If they can fix the long waits, I KNOW I'd be shopping here more. The location is super convenient. The entrance is right across the street from the Barclay's Center and the subway stop. It's inside the Atlantic Center/Mall (?) but I haven't checked out the rest of the mall yet. -
Jing’s 5-star review: duckduck is a local neighborhood bar in East Williamsburg, most people in the bar live in the area. It's near the L train but the surrounding area is very industrial once you walk away from the subway station. The vibe is very laid back and chill with a darts board, sawed metal staircase spiraling down the ceiling, and old school desks. During happy hour, you get a duckduck wooden token to exchange for a free 2nd well drink. $5 for 2 well drinks. That definitely makes my happy hour HAPPY! P.S. According to the Yelp reviews, there used to be a tattoo parlor next door named Goose. duckduck Goose. -
Jing’s 5-star review: I was introduced to Park Slope Yoga Center (PSYC) through Groupon and it didn't take too long before I powered through my first 10 classes. They offer so many classes throughout the day that it's hard to NOT find the time to go. The instructors are amazing and Teri (owner/director) is extremely warm and welcoming. This is my FAVORITE yoga studio! Also, if you sign up on their website, the first class is $5 and you'll receive 20% off a class package if you decide to purchase one immediately following your first class. Groupon users also get 20% off their next class package (woohoo!). 10-class packages are $150, 20-class packages are $275, 1-month unlimited is $180, and 3-month unlimited is $449 before the discount. Single classes are normally $18 each (or $15 for the 60 min classes held at 1pm on weekdays). ____ STUDIO ____ The main studio is gorgeous and hip with skylights and windows that look out into a forest-like courtyard. It's also one of the most spacious studio I have ever come across (the other one is the 34th Street Herald Square hot yoga studio). During mid-day, you can have as little as 4 students in the studio. I have never seen more than 20 students in one class yet. During the summer, they have the AC on. The Pilates class are usually in the small open space between the main studio and the women's changing room. (Men have a little curtained off booth in the open area to change.) There are two bathrooms behind the stairs, equipped with paper cups by the sink if you get thirsty. ____ YOGA ____ For yoga, there's the beginner's Hatha Basic (75 min), the intermediate Basic Vinyasa (75 min), the more advanced and open Vinyasa (90 min), Mixed Levels (90 min), Prenatal, and Parent/Baby Yoga. Rosie, Naomi, Robin, and Hunt are my absolute favorites but I have also taken classes from others and immensely enjoyed them. I choose classes based on the time rather than the instructor or the level. The advanced yoga classes were initially intimidating since they are usually attended by seasoned yogis. I got over it quickly since it really is a judgement-free zone and the instructors are extremely encouraging and understanding. The classes are open to all levels but I would recommend attending at least a few Hatha classes or a Mixed Levels class before challenging yourself to a Vinyasa class if you are new. I love the Hatha classes. There isn't much of a flow in these classes. The class focuses on deepening your stretches so that you understand which muscles are being activated in each pose. I have learned to love and appreciate yoga through these classes and always gravitate towards taking them when my schedule permits! I wish they had more of the intermediate Basic Vinyasa classes though. These are only offered ~3x a week. Yoga mat rentals are $1. The studio provides blocks, straps, and blankets to maximize muscle engagement. ____ PILATES ____ For pilates, Megan teaches a kickass class that leaves your core and hamstrings sore for days. They provide thicker mats and use a different strap. _________________ Remember to take your shoes off after coming up the stairs onto the 2nd floor, have your key card scanned, and have fun! There's no need to sign up online beforehand, which I love! I enter PSYC stressed and leave feeling lighter and more relaxed. If I had to choose between taking a yoga class and getting a full body massage, I would definitely pick yoga! -
Jing’s 4-star review: Surprisingly, there were no lines on a Wednesday evening in mid-November! Ichiran serves tonkotsu, which is my favorite bowl of ramen. The pork broth was creamy and perfect. The broth and noodles definitely lived up to the hype. You can customize the dashi and richness levels on the yellow order form found by every seat. The order form is actually quite extensive. I wish the chashu was a little more thick and fatty. (Too bad I couldn't customize that... lol.) The ramen bowl is pretty small and lacked toppings. A standard bowl of noodles with 2 slices of chashu and a handful of scallions is pricey at $18.90 (but it includes gratuity). For that price, I expected more toppings but seaweed is extra $1.90, mushroom $2.90, and simmered pork belly $9.90.
