Katrina’s 5-star review: Hate, hate, hate fast food, but seeing Shake Shack in the movie Friends With Benefits.....made me desperately want to try this place. I didn't mind indulging on a burger for my last meal in NYC before I was departing to Washington D.C. We went to this location as opposed to the original one in Central Park, because this was only a few minutes away from our hotel and we were on a time crunch. The line was out the door but was moving fairly quickly. The place was packed! And while all this craziness was happening, we saw Ernie Els! He came to eat here too!!! In case you didn't know... Ernie Els is one of the top pro golfers! This definitely made our meal. Shake Shack must be THAT bomb if a celeb came here too! :)) And he sat a few tables away from us. Anyway, back to my Shake Shack Experience. Before I continue, I must confess, even though I claim to have "indulged" in this fast food joint, I didn't eat an entire burger. My cousin and I shared the Shack Stack burger (Cheeseburger with mushroom and their house sauce), side of fries, and a Black And White Milkshake (Vanilla and Chocolate mixed together) because I was so concerned of gaining weight. Kind of regretted sharing it after because the portions were small. It was simple, yet so great tasting. Love how the buns are incredibly soft and is made from potatoes? Weird. I just loved the burger because it cupped in my hand so perfectly and I was able to bite into it without making an extreme mess. We also got Cheese fries (on top of the regular fries...lol) and it was a blend of different American Cheeses melted together. You could tell the cheeses were fresh and not from a can. My cousin got the SmokeShack which had bacon and my bf accidentally ordered the veggie, Shroom Burger. I mean it was still good! He just needed some meat. haha. Loved every moment here at Shake Shack and I shall return to try their Hot Dogs and Frozen Custards!!!! -
Katrina’s 5-star review: Don't expect to come here if: 1. You don't make reservations at least one month in advanced. Thankfully my cousin who resides there did it for us. 2. If you're cheap and don't want to splurge on an experience and drop at least $100-200 per person in CASH. This place is cash only and our bill came out to around $600 so bring that CASH. Here's what to expect if you DO come here and manage to get a reservation: 1. Order tons of sides to compliment the mighty meaty steaks. 2. The appetizer bacon is a MUST. 3. Obviously order steaks. 4. The dessert is optional, but their SCHLAG has so much swag you have to get it. Now I can begin my carnivorous adventure! Took the subway to Brooklyn and the area looked so sketchy.... so I was glad to have finally arrived to our destination! It was super packed even with reservations! Everyone was crowding around the bar while waiting for their names to be called upon. Once our table was ready we were seated at this spacious round table for 6. They provide bread as appetizers, but it is highly recommended to order their bacon! We got two slices of their thickly cut bacon. TO DIE FOR. It was really pink and didn't look like any ordinary bacon. When you bit into it, there was a bit of a fat plus crunch to it. Nicely salted, nicely marinated. Now to the actual steaks! Ordered the set of four steaks and the Ribeye. Both were sizzling HOT as they came out. It's nice because the waiter cuts the steaks and rib eyes for you and equally distributes them. See the pinkness in my meat. Both meats were so tender and soft biting into. Oh yeah, their sides are pretty plain like broccoli and hash but it adds more to your meal when you eat it with the meat. On to dessert! Their Sunday is decent. Too chocolatey but their schlag was on point! It is basically homemade whipped cream which was so fluffy and airy! The pecan pie was nicely nutted. lol. What is also cool is they give you big chocolate coins at the end of your meal! It is such a unique experience here and I am so glad I got to dine here. -
Katrina’s 5-star review: Waited to write this review because every time I thought of this place, my mouth begins to water. My cousins and I had just finished eating brunch, got some cannellonis from Little Italy, got some boba and ice cream in Chinatown.......and then decided to come here to eat. Yeah I know, we're pigs. I just couldn't bear the thought of passing this place up to try! The waiters must have thought we were the cheapest Asians ever. We were a party of 6 but got 2 bowls of noodles: The Roast Duck Noodles and The BBQ Pork Noodles with Won Tons. We were so full from everything else and needed to leave room for dinner after this meal too.... There was tons of meat in this little bowl to go around for all of us to have too! You could tell they make their own won tons as well. Extra brownie points! Some places I have been too, actually buy frozen ones and just feed them to you. I am sure these were frozen, but my point is they actually roll the won tons up themselves! The noodles in both bowls were average, but the meat and the broth were so tasty, it surpassed the need for better noodles. My cousin also told me that they have deals here occasionally for lobsters! 2 for $20? Awesome! I wish I had more days to come back and eat here because their rice dishes also looked salivating! Katrina’s 5-star review: Spanish food has become a current obsession of mine. The tapas and small plates are perfect for my diet! sorta... Kinda...not really when you order a BUNCH of small plates! Well that's what we did. Had a late brunch here and between the four of us, we ordered like 7 different items. Refer to my boqueria photos. I won't go into detail about each dish, but I will mention my top faves! Loved the salted cod because it was like little fried fish balls. It had the perfect saltiness in it. It was like battered in potato, fried with the cod in the center. Cojundo was another fave of mine because it was mini qual eggs cooked in sunny side up style with chorizo on a small slice of bread! YUMS. Abondigas was my third fave because they were lamb meatballs which reminded me of gyros/falaffels. It was like cooked in sheep's milk or something. I liked how it was plated and they were just such cute little balls! Basically every dish we got was delicious and I really wanted to try the churros, but we were all too full. This is a really cute tapas place with friendly service! -
Katrina’s 5-star review: 4 stars for having the best assortment of chocolates 1 star for owner/creator being Asian Totaling 5 stars for Kee's Chocolates! This little chocolate shop has the most unique, uncommon flavors ever. It is like they morphed boba tea flavors into chocolate. Weird, I know. They have chocolate flavors like Earl Grey, Balsamic, Lavender, Tiramisu, Black Sesame, Coconut, Dark Rose...etc. It is pretty much a better version of Godiva Chocolates. I went with the Tiramisu while my cousins chose the coconut, earl grey, black sesame, and Turtle. The Tiramisu literally tasted like a tiramisu. I've had flavored chocolates before that don't taste like what it is suppose to be. It usually tastes too sweet and the original taste can't be captivated. This Tiramisu however was coated in cocoa powder and was sweet and coffee like when I ate it. It melted in my mouth like butter. The chocolates are rich and seem to be more on the dark chocolate side of things. They aren't overwhelmingly sweet, but has just enough sugar to keep the chocolates tasting good. It is almost like Kee's Chocolates made its candies for Asians, since most Asians don't like super sweet things. Kee's chocolates knows the perfect median of just right sweetness. Another thing is I think they do deliver! The chocolates can get pricey, but it is definitely worth trying! I MUST mention, their macaroon flavors are even uniquer! The blue cassis macaroon caught my eye, but I decided not to try. I really wish they had the Rosewater Lychee or the Pineapple & Papaya flavored macaroons in store! This place also opened somewhere near downtown, so maybe that location is bigger and offers more? IDK. -
Katrina’s 5-star review: AYE YAY AYE! This hole-in-the-wall Cuban place is so quick and easy to miss! Spotted on yelp, decided to come here for a quick lunch. Margon looks messy and made me nervous to eat their food....BUT looks can really BE deceiving! Cuban music is bumpin at this hot spot and you get such friendly service! So much energy here! The young girl who served us was so kind! Even though the line was gradually getting longer and longer, she made small talk asking where my cousins and I were from and suggested what to get! She also brought the food out to us (everyone usually picks up the food themselves) and I loved how she always smiled! My bf and I got the Cuban Sandwiches. Usually I am not a fan of mustard and pickles, but in this Cuban sandwich, the mustard and pickles were a great addition with the ham and melted cheese. The bread was uber soft and my sandwich was cut in 3 parts so it was easy to eat (like sliders). The sandwich wasn't oozing out with the ingredients whenever you bit into it either (which I liked). It had ham, pork, and salami as the meats along with the cheese, pickle, and mustard. There was also some secret sauce all up in there too! Loved how the sandwich was sweet and sour at the same time. My cousin got the Ox Tail, plantains, and their Cuban rice. Honestly, this meal looked like something you get in the cafeteria of a lunch line, but the ox tail was so good! Ox Tail could get pricy, but this place wasn't stingy on the portions. The plantains were very banana-y and weren't too fried and dried where it tasted like chips. The rice was typical but it was a need to eat with the ox tails. -
Katrina’s 5-star review: Beware, this place is at least $100 per person for sushi. Yeah, you must be thinking I am crazy to ever agree to dish out that much money on small bits of raw fish, but this sushi was one of a kind. It was seriously the best most freshest sushi I have ever eaten. I have been to fancy restaurants, but never an upscale Japanese one. This was my cousin's favorite restaurant so he wanted us to try it. We all got the Omakase. Omakase is basically a selection of the Chef's choice of sushi. There is about 12 pieces? Not that much. Don't expect to be full after this BTW. The selection ranges from raw scallop, sashimi, sea urchin, tuna, anagi, unagi...etc. The sea urchin and anagi were the two pieces that I was nervous to try! Sea urchin was a miss for me. People either love it or hate it, and I hated it just because it felt so foamy and buttery in my mouth. ehh. The anagi tasted like unagi! Miso soup is also provided! Really light and hot. Not too salty and didn't taste like it came from a package. I must mention we did get some appetizers. We shared raw salmon. Loved how juicy and red it looked! That's how you know its freshhhh! We also had the tartar trio which was AMAZING! It was like eating potato chips with raw fish as the "salsa dip". What a clever creation! Esp because it is Japanese style! They even make their own wasabi here! You could definitely tell. Our waiter was EXTREMELY friendly and welcoming! He gave us each a free Green Tea Ice cream for dessert! He felt bad we had to sit next to a big party who were loud and obnoxious. That was really sweet of him! The ice cream had the perfect MATCHA to it! This restaurant is really small. It doesn't get extremely packed, but the seating is a bit tight. The decor is really cool upon entrance though! -
Katrina’s 5-star review: Don Tat Ice Cream is all you need to know. Knowing that this place even has such a flavor is automatic 5 star for me!!! I was so excited about this I had to instagram a photo of my Chinese flavored ice cream immediately to show all my Chinese friends. I bet they were jelly and wanted to try this. LOL. Anyway this place blew me away because they had amazing Asian flavors I never thought could even be possible to formulate into ice cream form. Almond Cookie?! Black Sesame?! Zen Butter?! Pandan?! (This is what green waffles are made from. BALLS. should've gotten this :/ ) This place literally made me JUMP FOR JOY. I was so excited I couldn't decide! Finally went with the Don Tot (of course) and the Lychee Ice cream flavors. YUMMMMYYY IN MY TUMMYYYY. The Don Tats flavor was at the perfect sweetness. I like don tats so eating the ice cream was a whole other story. It tasted like the don tat too and was nice and creamy! BEST ICE CREAM STORE EVER. I don't even remember how much it costs per scoop and I don't care because the price doesn't phase me here at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory!!!! Thinking about this place makes me want to smile a bajillion times :)))))))))))))) It took me awhile to want to write a review for this place because I saved the best restaurants of my NYC trip to yelp last. Hmph, the end of my NYC reviews is near. -
Katrina’s 5-star review: Since I didn't get to try Momofuku Milk Bar because my cousins claimed there is better.... They were right! Dessert Club, Chikalicious was imaginative, fanciful, fantastical!!! I don't think I have ever been to a dessert place that was so creative with their dessert combinations! The "Michelle Obama" was one of the desserts I wanted to try....but it looked too filling! I had already been stuffed from dinner, so this dessert needed to be light. Please... what was I thinking? We ended up with the Cookies and Cream and the Red Velvet. Katrina’s 4-star review: Watermelon Soju in an actual WATERMELON?! What an experience! This late night chill spot is located in Korea Town! Didn't get embarrassed about my Asian glow here because almost every Korean was getting that glow on too! lol. Basically it's their watermelon Soju and buda jigae that makes Pocha 32 well known in Ktown. Watermelon Soju: pour some into your bowl. Make sure you have tons of ice! Tastes much better wen there is ice. Usually there isn't much soju, but ours had tons! Tasted like a legit alcoholic beverage. It's about $30 for this drink? Katrina’s 4-star review: Formerly known as Famous Ray's Pizza, my cousins and I came here late on a Sunday night. We were shocked upon arrival by the name...Famous Roio's?! WTF. Then we saw a little newspaper article saying that this place is basically the same owner as Ray's just with a changed name. Ate here anyway because the boys really wanted some authentic NYC pizza. Hmmn, although the pizza was nice and greasy, it wasn't as "Brooklyn" as we thought! The crust was actually a bit thicker than what we were expecting. We thought it was going to be Brooklyn style with a thin crust and all. Minus-ing the fact that it wasn't too authentic, the pizza itself was tasty. The slice was ginormous! My cousin and I shared one slice of pepperoni pizza while the boys chowed down on their own individual slices. The cheese was a good amount of cheese! I liked that it was fluffy so every time I bit into it, it had tons of flavor. I really enjoyed my pizza having the perfect amount of crispness. Good pizza and it is open super late!
