Issabelle’s 5-star review: Love the food, drinks, live music and vibes from the Revel Room. My friend and I came in around 7 on a Saturday night with no reservation and were expecting to have to wait a long time for a table. We were pleasantly surprised when we got seated at a table upstairs right away. Plenty of seating upstairs. Lots of booths, tables, and high tops, that can fit about 40 or so people up there. It does get quite hot fairly quickly, but if they keep their AC running, there's nothing to worry about. Downstairs is where they have the bar, live music set up, bathroom and more tables. It does get busier as the night goes on, so either come early or make a reservation. Drink wise, this spot is known for their cocktails. I decided to do the cocktail roulette, which is where you choose an alcohol base and then let the bartender create whatever they want for you. Both my friend and I got this and we decided to do a gin base. Mine ended up being some sort of gin grapefruit sour and my friend's was along the lines of a pineapple citrus sour. Both were delicious! I would drink that every time I came in if it was on the menu. We also got a bottle of the Sauvignon blanc after that because when you check in on Yelp you get 20% off a bottle of wine. I mean it's not really girl's night without a bottle of wine am I right? For food, they have a pretty short menu that consists of Canadian fare dishes. We got the cornmeal crusted oysters and the bbq chicken flatbread and both were ah-mazing. The southern fried chicken, Cajun rockfish and pesto parmesan quinoa all caught my eye as well and I'd love to come back and try out those next time. Meals are definitely a bit on the pricier end, but the portions are decent and the quality of the food is amazing. Plus you're paying for the experience of it all which is worth it in my opinion. They charge a $2 entertainment fee which goes back to the musicians and band performing to the evening. I honesty love this idea because it supports good talent and artists. I can't remember our servers name, but she was fantastic and had so many great recommendations. She also had some really cool tattoos that we ended up talking about for a good 10 minutes. Perfect spot for a girls night, date night, or any night really. I'll be back, Revel Room! -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: This Mexican food obsessed lady approves! Maizal, you can have all my stars! Maizal is a family-run business that takes pride in quality and authentic Mexican cuisine. Their menu consists of about 7 tacos, a few burritos, bowls, quesadillas and dessert. They don't have a lot of options, but I think that's great because instead they focus their time and energy on their core products and excel in creating them. I'm really into food bowls lately, so when I saw they had bowl options, I jumped on it. I decided on the pescado rice bowl (deep fried fish batter w/ rice, beans, poco de gallo and corn tortillas on the side). Their fish batter is made with chicharon, which adds the extra crispiness. I'm a huge fan. I also got one of their churros to go. It was the perfect sweet snack. House-made and warm, mmm I'm having dreams about it. Next time I'll have to try their churro ice cream (Vanilla ice cream w/ churro bits). Seems like the perfect pair. Maizal easily makes it into my top 3 favourite Mexican spots in the city. Can't wait to try more! -

Issabelle’s 4-star review: I'm trying to slowly transition to a plant based diet and MeeT is one of my favourite places to get plant based food in the city. Simply because it doesn't taste like your eating plant based dishes. A couple things that I've gotten from MeeT that I've loved: + Angry Burger (I get this w/ the beyond meat veggie patty) + Sweet Chili Cauliflower (fave appy) + Chiggin Things (second fave appy) + All their poutine (their regular poutine takes the crown for me though) + Hot Chiggn Caesar Salad (so freaking delicious) + Mac N Cheese Bowl Everything I've tried, I've loved. Even when I was eating meat I still loved coming here because everyhting is so delicious and filling. For the prices you're paying, the portions are very generous and the quality of the food is always consistent. Since it's in the heart of Gastown, parking is really, really annoying. Luckily when I come to eat at MeeT I'm usually taking transit. If you are driving down, there's a couple parking garages close by or theres street parking a few blocks away. Service has always been prompt and friendly. Plus, they give really great recommendations. This place is usually busy on the weekends and in evenings. I love coming in post lunch rush though or right before the dinner rush. If I'm craving good comfort food, MeeT is one of my first stops! -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Tuc Craft. I love me a good brunch, and this is what Tuc Craft does well. I'd give Tuc 5 stars alone just for their chicken and waffles. They're some of the best in the city. Dare I say the best...? This spot is located in the heart of Gastown and is easily accesible by skytrain (with the Waterfront station a short 7-8 min walk away) or bus. There are plenty of parking spots near by, but Gastown being Gastown, finding parking is a bit of an expensive nightmare. I've come here twice now - once for happy hour and once for brunch, but it definitely won't be my last visit. Otto, our server, took great care of us. Making sure our drinks were always filled and recommending some great dishes. Since it was both mine and my brunch buddy's first time dining here for brunch, we made Otto choose all the fan favourites - the chicken and waffles, crispy bacon and egg (almost like a scotch egg), and the pork belly crackling. Winner winner, chicken dinner! All of these were delicious, especially the chicken and waffles. The waffles go perfectly with the chicken, which are battered and fried to perfection. And the maple syrup is probably the best maple syrup I've had. Our server joked that the syrup cost more than the chicken... which I wouldn't be surprised if it were actually true. They also have a great happy hour, with a great wine list. They aren't well known for their drinks or dinner, but I'd definitely recommend checking them out since they have a great looking menu. If you have a chance to drink some of the wine on their menu, I'd highly recommend doing so. They know how to pick 'em! I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: OEB just may have slipped into my top 2 fave brunch places in the city (Jam could never move from the #1 spot in my heart). When I think of brunch, I think of beautifully plated, large portions and carb filling dishes. This is exactly what OEB Breakfast Co. is. OEB is originally from Calgary and I have been waiting for them to open up their Vancouver location for the last few months now and I'm so happy that they're finally open! OEB's menu specializes in hearty, carb-filling dishes. A few eye-catching items from their menu: + Artisinal bagel sammy + Every single breakfast poutine dish + Lobster and shrimp crepe + Nutella french toast + Sweet dreams are made of this (French toast stuffed w/ cheesecake) All of this is just a small sample of what looked good and what I would enjoy. I personally tried the "Sweet dreams are made of this" and "Mushroom and Ham crepe". Both were delicious, but I had to go with the sweet dreams as my favourite. You can't beat french toast stuffed w/ cheesecake. I'm usually not a fan of sweet breakfasts, but this one had me sold. The space itself is large, with plenty of seating for small or large parties, and the view of the Seawall is unbeatable. Brunching with delicious food and a great view? Sounds like I'll be back real soon. -
