Probably the most bizarre list for me: where to park your car. This will flesh out over time, but I hope it helps!

Charlene’s 3-star review: Alright people, parking sucks ass, we all agree. But it's totally and completely doable if you know what you're getting into (Clement Street at noon, Chestnut Street on any day it's warm, Union Street on weekends, Irving Street most days). The worst thing you can do is get stressed out then you become some crazy buckwild driver who can't see anything right. Just be calm and you will find a spot open up. Or for heaven's sake, it's not that far to walk a few blocks. I swear there are at least 50% of the people who just want a spot in front of the place where they want to go. Parking karma is a very real thing. If you are a dick, you'll get crap parking, if at all. If you're cool about your stuff and don't snake spots, you will find something. If you want loads of parking, wide spaces, and pole position parking, stay in the suburbs. Seriously. You came to the City for a reason, now deal with the parking like the rest of us! -
Charlene’s 5-star review: I..am..reviewing...a garage. Okay so this won't be the last, I can name at least four others that I would love to tell you about. Anyways, I love this garage. Something about it tells me that I have arrived. Union Square is at your feet. Registers are staffed and await my measly dollars. Easy to get to and easy to get out of, you'll find yourself in a nice, clean garage free of 4th and Mission's drama and urine smell and devoid of Ellis Street Garage's valet stunt drivers. Tip: There are two elevators. The high speed ones and the normal ones. The high speed ones are to the left of the cashier, and to the right, the normal. High speed truly is high speed and will deposit your rump closer to the Stockton street entrance. The Normal Speed ones will deposit you onto Sutter street at the very bottom. Nice hint if you'd like to get to Coach/Banana Republic/E&O as opposed to Niketown/Macy's/Borders. Also, you can park downstairs...for those of you who are headed towards east of Union Square and Banana Republic, go downstairs from the Stockton street entrance, take the stairs by the normal speed elevator and voila. Pimp. No waiting for funky elevators. I can't believe I'm into this review as much as I am. Hope it's helpful! -
Charlene’s 5-star review: This is the garage to go to if you've got a quick errand to run at Macy's (get your eyebrows done at the Benefit Brow Bar) or stick your head in at Crate and Barrell. Or just have to get some lotions and goo from Lush. Point is, you're not there for an all day jaunt. This is easy valet parking for those who have never done it. Pull up, turn off car. Step out of car. Greet homeboy. He'll ask you how long you'll be there. Err on the side of "I'll get everything I need and won't window shop." In other words say too long and it'll be a pain in the rumpus to get it out. Take the ticket he gives you and be on your way. Come back with your bags AFTER having paid for your ticket at the kiosk or cashiers. Wave homeboy down, who by now is another homeboy, and then give him his ticket. He will do some strange car jenga and then your car will appear. Hand him 2 bucks. Get your shit in the car and corkscrew your way downstairs. You know the rest (if not, put your ticket into the machine at the gate and you're good. try not to run over any pedestrians). Easy in and easy out, but I'm always surprised about how many floors will be closed and have no one working and here are TONS of cars circling around. It's a great view from the top if you get to level 8. ;-) -
Charlene’s 5-star review: I'm surprised that this lot isn't more full...I've had a lot of luck parking here. Maybe it's the police department across the street, but maybe people just thrive on parking on the street. Whatever it may be, this is a small oasis of parking heaven. Yes, I highly recommend the fortune cookie sayings, so please, by all means, read each and every one of them you can. A pleasant surprise for such a boring kind of place. -
Charlene’s 4-star review: Go here if you're going to SFMoMA, Metreon, Burlington Coat Factory, California Academy of Sciences, Union Square and Moscone Center. This is easy to get to as well as easy to get away from, but I nick this garage because it's very busy and can be hectic to out of towners. You'll get hardcore panhandled on the corners, the stairs going downstairs reek of urine, and what makes me sad is that recently someone was shot on the 2nd floor. Any given day you'll have hang around hoodrats just being hoodrats. I hate to badmouth this place because it's my go-to garage when I'm in the area, but I just hate what it's become. You'll be safe, no doubt, but just be aware. Tip: If you want to bypass elevator crowds and you're going to Metreon or straight to Union Square, park downstairs. The ONLY entrance to downstairs parking is on Mission street. Go in the Mission Street entrance (look for it because you will drive by it if you're not paying attention), and go to the left once you're in the garage. this will take you downstairs. Turn right and turn right again. Park over by the elevators and take the (urine smelling) stairs to the street. BTW: parking down here is not for those folks who get totally stressed out in movies when someone goes to a dark place and then someone jumps out at them. While this is not a dark place, it can give you the willies if you can't hang. Remember to take your parking ticket with you and pay for it at the kiosk before you return to your car. People always seem to forget this, and some poor schmuck is always stuck at the gate waiting for an attendant. -
Charlene’s 5-star review: I used to get excited over this place when I was a kid, and there's that small part of me that gets giddy everytime I have to go there to pick someone up or drop someone off. Now before you start calling me for a pick up and drop off, this review is only for the parking because I'm on some weird where to park your car stint. The garage here is pretty large, and by large I mean confusing. You can't help but feel like ants everytime you drive up and want to park. There are many different lanes, but I prefer the lonely one on the right. I'm a creature of habit, what can I say. So now that you're in, make sure you peep what airline you're going to. This will probably freak you out, but you're from SF, you can handle knifefights on busses so you can handle getting lost in the airport (that's my mantra). Make note of where you are because it is guaranteed that somewhere in this bizarro garage, you will see stuff that's familiar but your car won't be there. That really sucks. That's also why stuff here is color coded. At the very least have 5 different scarves in your car so you can pick the one that matches where you parked, genius. Tie that around your pretty head and everyone will be happy. You'll go broke parking here, but hey, that's SFO for you. Other than that I love this place. Great facility and there are some swell art exhibits here, enough to keep you entertained on those layovers. peep the international wing if you have a chance. Expect to be delayed. Blah blah blah two runways, blah blah blah can't build into the bay. Just remember you're back, baby. Welcome home, bitches! -
Charlene’s 5-star review: Top notch garage. You are parking here because you have jury duty at 400 McAllister, you are going to the Opera/Symphony/Ballet, you have to go to Family court for your baby mama got some issues with you! This is a nice walk to Civic Center if you need to go there. This place is clean, you don't feel all that scared to be in here, and there's a fat mural on the Gough Street that you'll always stare at when you drive by. Good deal for jury duty: it's only a couple of bucks to park here if you get the validation from the jury staff. -
Charlene’s 4-star review: Woot! This is a bomb garage! You are here because you're at Japan Town, going to watch movies at Kabuki or so OVER parking on Fillmore Street. Totally clean, no urine smells, and fairly well lit. There are actually two entrances (which may be two different garages, now that I think of it. This one has an entrance on Geary and on Post. The other, called the Annex has an entrance on Fillmore Street. My beef with this place is that none of the pay stations seem to work. I have been here twice this week alone, and you'll have to drive over to the cashier to pay. Oh well, such is life. Last thing you want to do is get out of your car when you have a bowl full of soba in your belly! -
Charlene’s 4-star review: I like that the garage here is right downstairs. No exiting the building, no crossing the street, no struggling to find parking, etc. You get the drift. Although I honestly haven't been here in a while, there are a few escalators to contend with, and that can be annoying when you're running late for a movie. You'll live, right genius?
