I R O R O’s 5-star review: Sitting in the Bengal Lounge, minutes after checking into the "empressive" Fairmont Empress, luxuriating in the softness of the impossibly comfortable soft-leather couches and waiting in earnest for my curry lunch to begin, it was easy to imagine myself in another epoch, in a lounge ... at say ... London's Royal Geographic Society, exchanging crispy gists with explorers such as Percy Fawcett or Edmund Musgrave Barttelot. Yes, this lounge is genuinely olde-skoole, complete with black marble elephants at the entrance, a real Bengal Tiger skin hanging over the fireplace (!) and all the decor/woodwork/high-ceilings that you'd expect. I greatly enjoyed the curry lunch buffet, it is expensive (~24 CAD), but after the weak-ass taste-less pretzels I got on the flight over from the US, I was ready to tuck into this nice welcome to Victoria! 5 Stars!! -
I R O R O’s 5-star review: Updating my original 2009 review some 15 years later, and this is STILL some of the best fish-n-chips I've ever had, certainly on the West Coast. Today, I had the BC Halibut and it was a PERFECT 10/10, I sat there savouring every last moist section, greedily dipping into the thick tartar sauce, wanting & wishing for this moment to endure, but knowing I was only 1fish, 2 fishes away ... Tomorrow, I'm going to remind myself how tasty the Jerk Fish Tacones are. 5 Stars! I WILL be back! -

I R O R O’s 5-star review: On a recent trip to Victoria, we enjoyed spending the afternoon wandering around these gardens which are now a National Historic Site of Canada. There are well manicured paths, lots of varying topography and a rich diversity of flora in a variety of botanical styles. At the entrance there is also a restaurant & cafe, perfect for fueling up before tackling the ~55 acres of choice floral vegetation. My favourites parts were the Italian & Japanese gardens, the northern end of which gives way to a splendid view of a sheltered little cove on the straits of Georgia. This is the kind of place to go for a relaxing afternoon of quality time, with the parental or grand-parental units. 5 Stars!
