I'm in need of a sewing machine repair place that DOES NOT outsource their repairs. I've called three places already and they all simply box up your machine and send it elsewhere.
Does no one actually fix machines in the Bay Area anymore??

    hmm...what brand is it?

  1. How old is the machine? If it's an older, non-computerized model, there's an old guy on the west side of Powell near Clay/Washington who does his own repairs. I can't speak to the quality of service, but I do know he's been in business there for YEARS.

Wish I could tell you the name of the place, but even though I've walked past it literally hundreds of times over the past 6 years I never noticed. Sorry.

    Hi Dan
There's a place on Irving near 17th in City . . Sunset something . . .Sunset Sewing maybe?  Call them and ask if they outsource.  I don't think they do.  There used to be a big sewing machine/vaccum shop Top  of The Hill Daly City - but I don't know if it's still there.

There's another sewing machine shop here in the City on either Geary or Clement.  I'm sorry that I don't have actual names for you but you can Yelp the street and they should pop up.

I'd also call some indie fabric stores and ask.  Peapod in the Sunset District would be a choice, and there's a fabulous fabric store in the Piedmont area in Oakland - the owner is a darling, she'll know for sure!

  2. There's Berkeley-Vacuum and Sewing Center and Jim's on Solano, both in Berkeley.
