Swim Lessons for children and adults

YMCA swim lessons prepare kids of all ages to stay safe and have fun in the water, building strong swimmers and confident kids. Lessons are available for individuals 6 months to adult. You are never too old to learn to swim.

How do YMCA swim lessons work?
  • Swim lesson sessions include four 30-minute lessons.
  • Skills are taught progressively, allowing swimmers to learn to swim safely while developing confidence in the water.
  • Instructors will assess your swimmer at their first lesson, to build on the skills already gained.
  • You can also attend Sea Where You're At Saturdays (Swim Skill Assessments) to have an instructor assess your swimmer's skills, practice for the Swim Test, see if you have what it takes to be a lifeguard and more!

Adaptive Swim Lessons

The Y’s adaptive swim lesson program is designed for children with special needs. With the needs of each individual in mind, the goal of this program is to provide basic water instruction and teach water safety skills in a therapeutic manner.

School-Age Swim Lessons

For ages 5 to 12

Children are taught progressively, starting with fundamental swim skills in Stage 1, with each following stage building on skills taught in previous stages. A low student-teacher ratio allows participants to safely develop skills and confidence in the water.

Adult & Teen Swim Lessons

Ages 13 and up

Whether overcoming fear of the water or refining your swim stroke skills for better fitness, it’s never too late to enjoy the fun and health benefits of swimming. In Adult & Teen swim lessons for ages 13 and older, instructors tailor lessons to meet each student's abilities and goals.

Private/Semi Private Swim Lessons

Private and Semi-Private swim lessons are for individuals who want one on one or small group instruction from a swim lesson instructor.
