Fill a highball glass with ice and add rum, cola to fill and squeeze of lime. Garnish with a wedge of lime.
My Grandfather (a Caribian guy) had it always with a few 'Angostura' Drops... And it made the Difference!
I add a few drops of Aztec chocolate bitters to the rum before adding Mexican Coke.

Costco, and some times BJ's, stock cases of Mexican Coca Cola. I agree that the cane sugar makes a whole world of difference in the flavor, helped by the fact that the soda is in glass bottles and not cans.
It's not always possible to find Mexican cola..Grocery stories usually carry a few bottles, but they disappear almost as soon as they go on the shelves...Coca-Cola has put our a new "green" cola, but it is still not RIGHT for those of us who grew up with the real thing right here in the South..I would buy it regardless of the cost if it were available...
Try a cash and carry restaurant supply store they usually carry Mexican cola, even for those of us who live wat north of the Mexico border, I live on Canadian border, at least worth a try
Mexican cola makes this drink!
Just a basic rum and coke. would rather use the cola in a float with ice cream.
"Savor the irony"? What irony? We all drank cuba libres when we went to Mexico in the early '60s. I remember a waiter saying "libre Cuba", which is perhaps not good Castilian, but he got his point across.
