🎓 CEEZER is proud to announce the graduation of the 2nd cohort of the CEEZER Carbon Coalition, a program targeted to early-stage project developers working on novel and durable carbon removal solutions. Now active on the CEEZER platform, the suppliers will be able to connect with sophisticated buyers looking to invest early in CDR projects and remove over 7 million tons of CO2e by 2030. The completion of this 3-month program brings AirSmat Inc, Heimdal, PRONOE, RECOAL AG, SeaO2, Silica, and ZeroEx one step closer to commercialization readiness. Discover CEEZER's project developers: Tree.ly Tree.ly develops forest climate protection projects across Europe to mitigate climate change by unlocking local forests' full potential. They connect companies with forest owners to support climate-resilient forestry through TÜV-verified carbon credits with co-benefits, enabling measurable and local corporate contributions to sustainability.       One example of a project now live on CEEZER is Stand Montafon in Austria, which is an Improve Forest Management project verified by TÜV AUSTRIA Group. With 6,480 hectares, the Stand Montafon is the largest forest owner in Vorarlberg. Most of its forest areas are located in mountainous terrain, over 1,200 meter above sea level. This makes management more difficult and at the same time results in an increased protective function. Yesterday, The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) rejected the main renewable energy methodologies assessed for Core Carbon Principles (CCP) eligibility. This includes methodologies for both large and small-scale grid-connected projects, as well as mini-grid and off-grid initiatives. These methodologies account for about 236 million unretired credits, representing 32% of the voluntary carbon market. As a result of this decision, millions of carbon credits previously approved by Verra and Gold Standard under existing renewable energy project methodologies will not be recognized as CCP-aligned. CEEZER’s article “Navigating the murky waters of renewable energy carbon credits” sheds light on why the increasing competitiveness of clean technologies means many projects fail to meet the additionality tests. There are ample limitations of existing methodologies for renewable energy projects indeed. Yet, there still is potential for impactful renewable energy initiatives in rural communities in least developed countries (LDCs). While the ICVCM’s decision gives important guidance, buyers need to be aware that some renewable energy technologies have not yet been reviewed by the IC-VCM, with project types like pico-solar lights for rural households (AMS-III.AR.) and solar water pumps (AMS-I.B.) excluded so far. 📃 Interested in more background information on the ICVCM’s decision? Discover CEEZER's project developers: Phlair 🌫 Phlair is a German technology developer focused on highly cost- and energy-efficient electrochemical acid and base regeneration. The primary application of this technology is in direct air capture (DAC), where reducing energy consumption in the regeneration of CO2-absorbing fluids is critical. Their first-of-a-kind plant (Electra 01) is set for deployment in early 2025, with durable storage of captured CO2 facilitated by mineralization partner Paebbl in the Netherlands.   Forward credits and long-term offtake opportunities from the upcoming Electra 01 plant (260 tCO2/year starting in 2025) are available directly on the CEEZER platform. Phlair’s unit-sized Hydrolizer stacks enable rapid upscaling, from single unit projects to larger commercial facilities. Credits from the Dawn plant (20,000 tCO2/year starting in 2026) will be available soon.   Malte Feucht, CEO of Phlair says “marketplaces play an integral part in helping companies reach net zero by connecting buyers with vetted and trustworthy carbon removal suppliers.” CEEZER’s Sophie-Louise Elsässer Elsaesser experienced Phlair’s technology firsthand during the opening of their lab in Ismaning earlier this summer.
