City of New Orleans Announces City Hall Closure on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12

The City of New Orleans today announced that City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12 in response to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Francine. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of residents and City employees.

City of New Orleans to Provide Free Paper Shredding During Recycling Drop-Off Event, Saturday, Sept. 14

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the City of New Orleans’ Department of Sanitation will host a paper shredding event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. Given the high demand for Shred Day events, it is recommended that residents arrive early to take advantage of shredding services before capacity has been exhausted.

NORD COMMISSION ANNOUNCES ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission is thrilled to launch its first-ever Athlete of the Week program, recognizing outstanding youth athletes from both NORD Commission's youth and middle schools tackle football leagues throughout the season. This 11-week initiative will highlight athletes who demonstrate exceptional skill, leadership, and sportsmanship, with nominees selected by coaches and NORD Commission officials. Each week’s honoree will be featured on WGNO’s Friday Night Football, airing at 11 p.m.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Street Closure on Western Street

The City of New Orleans today announced that starting Monday, Sept. 9, access to Western Street will be closed between Elysian Fields Avenue and Mirabeau Avenue. The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works’ contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC, in conjunction with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, will be performing a water valve closure to perform a waterline tie-in. This temporary closure will remain in effect for approximately three days and a detour will be in place.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Intersection Closure at Freret Street & South Carrollton Avenue

The City of New Orleans today announced the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Impetus Infrastructure, LLC. will be performing a closure on the intersection of Freret Street and the northbound lane of South Carrollton Avenue starting Sept. 9, starting at 7 a.m. to accommodate roadway restoration as part of the East Carrollton Group B & C project.

City of New Orleans Announces Launch of Opportunity Pass Program Offering Free Transit for Youth Ages 16-24

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by Asya Howlette, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families, Lona Edwards Hankins, CEO of the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Emily Painton, Executive Director and City Librarian of the New Orleans Public Library, Fred Neal Jr., Board of Commissioners for RTA, Courtney Jackson, Executive Director of RIDE New Orleans, Morgan Shannon, Executive Director of the New Orleans Children and Youth Planning Board, and Bela, RIDE New Orleans Youth Ambassador, to announce the launch of the Opportunity Pass Program.
