SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A body found Sunday in Lake Solano County Park waters was identified using DNA analysis Wednesday as Eduardo Fierros, 18, of Winters, who went missing July 3 when the truck he was in crashed into Putah Creek, according to authorities.

The other occupant of the vehicle, also 18, survived the crash and was found shortly after midnight July 4 clinging to the shoreline, said Solano County Sheriff's deputies, who could see the submerged red truck at the scene.

"The man told the deputies that his friend, 18-year-old Eduardo Fierros of Winters, was still in the truck," the agency said.

Trained in swift-water rescues, Vacaville Fire Protection District firefighters were called and attempted to access the truck, but were unable to reach it, officials said. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office dive team also responded to search the shoreline. And Putah Creek Road from Pleasants Valley Road to Canal Road closed to facilitate search efforts.

"The truck was later recovered from the water — unoccupied," deputies said.

Search-and-recovery efforts in Putah Creek continued daily until Sunday, July 10, when at approximately 3:30 p.m., Solano County Sheriff’s marine patrol found a body. On July 13, the Solano County Sheriff’s coroner investigator, with assistance from the Butte County coroner, used DNA analysis to positively identify the body as Fierros, the department said.

Participating in the week-plus search operations included Fierros' family and friends, volunteers, sheriff's offices from Napa County, Yolo County, Alameda County and Sacramento County, Winters Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Vacaville Fire, Winters Fire Department, Cal Fire, California Rescue Dogs Association and other area agencies, deputies said.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision, officials said.

Solano County Sheriff's deputies extended condolences to Fierros' loved ones: "Our thoughts are with the family, friends and the Winters community during this sad time."
