Gas Prices Rise Above $6 In San Diego: Find Lowest Price In Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA — The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline has soared over $6 again in San Diego County.

The average price recorded its largest increase since July 12, 2015, Wednesday, rising 14.3 cents to $6.043, its highest amount since July 11, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen 12 consecutive days and 25 of the past 26 days, increasing 82.1 cents, according to AAA. The average price was $5.900 Tuesday, $5.479 one week ago, $5.250 one month ago, and $4.351 one year ago.

Despite the recent run of increases, the average price has dropped 33 cents since setting the record high of $6.373 on June 15.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in California was $6.036 Wednesday, while the average national price was $3.765, according to AAA.

"A string of planned and unplanned refinery maintenance issues has severely tightened fuel supply in California," said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager. "West Coast fuel inventories are at the lowest level in about a decade according to Energy Information Administration.

"Until the refineries are fully operational again, supply is going to be tight and will cause pump prices to be volatile."

The most affordable gas Wednesday in Carlsbad was at Costco at 951 Palomar Airport Road, according to GasBuddy. Regular gas was going for $5.65 a gallon at the station.
