LIVERMORE, CA — Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC., the contract manager for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, awarded numerous grants to six LVJUSD schools as part of its 2023 Community Gift Program. Grants were also awarded to Livermore Public Library, Las Positas College Foundation, and Livermore Music, as well as several organizations across the East Bay.

Out of a total of $220,000, LLNS awarded the following grants to Livermore organizations. Patch reached out to LLNS for grant amounts.

  • Lammersville School District, Altamont Elementary School for STEM programs, computer literacy, and Project Lead The Way
  • Las Positas College Foundation, to support the Las Positas President’s Scholars Program
  • Altamont Creek Elementary School, to support outdoor STEAM projects
  • Arroyo Seco Elementary School, for materials in their Makerspace STEAM lab
  • Joe Mitchell K-8 School, for a Scholastic News subscription
  • Livermore High School, to support the GravitechX Robotics Team
  • Livermore High School, to support the Metal Shop program
  • Marylin Avenue Elementary School, to support LVJUSD’s first STEAM program
  • Livermore Music, to support a program loaning musical instruments to students with financial need
  • Livermore Public Library, update their children’s STEM collection

“LLNS has a long history of supporting LVJUSD's students and schools through its Community Gift Program,” LVJUSD Superintendent Chris Van Schaack said in a statement. “We are once again extremely grateful for the support provided this year to so many of our programs which include robotics, metal shop, STEAM education, and music. This funding helps to provide access, equity, and the expansion of programs to Livermore students of all ages at all levels of instruction."
