LIVERMORE, CA — Every LVJUSD third grader received their hardcover novel as part of the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore’s “Gift of Reading” project. The project aims to promote reading and enhance skills crucial to academic development.

RFL partnered with Towne Center Books to invite LVJUSD third graders to choose their favorite of three titles selected by 3rd grade teachers and elementary school librarians: “El Deafo” by Cece Bell, “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown, or “Willodeen” by Katherine Applegate.

Rotarians visited school libraries throughout April to distribute the book, causing great excitement amongst the children. “The books inspired the students to read willingly and voraciously. The shared experience of having the same book encouraged the reluctant readers to show interest in a way they don’t usually,” an Arroyo Seco teacher said in a statement.
